Hi all, just wondering if the 'Sweet wormwood' which contains Artemisinin is different to the common one? Also, does the common one contain Artemisinin? Does anyone know if a daily tea of wormwood would contain similar Artemisinin and how many grams of dried material would be safe to drink to gain medicinal benefits?

Thought I'd start a thread for fiends and lovers of Yerba Mate Drink it at work every few days and it gets me through the day and makes me feel great. Thought I'd start by asking if anyone knows of a filter one can add to a mate straw so powdered mate doesn't pass through and into the mouth? In the commercial packages of Mate I found a normal metal straw is fine as the mate is just chopped into half cm leaf or stem but in South Brazil - Porto Allegre markets I bought about 1KG of pure powdered mate (they had about 20 different types, all powdered) and everytime I try to drink it my straw blocks up and I can't drink it. I'm thinking there is some kind of local accessory the Gauchos of South Brazil must use to drink this powdered form and was hoping someone would know where I can get it?

Does anyone know if any of the Carnegia family can be grafted to Trichocereus (Echinopsis)?? Or does it have to be grafted to other Carnegias? If so, are there other faster growing Carnegia species which Carnegia Gigantea could be grafted to to speed up growth?

Does anyone know if Yerba Mate requires warm weather and constant humidity to grow healthily?? I live in Adelaide and in the botanic gardens there is a large Yerba Mate tree, however it's leaves look friggin yellow, bug ridden and diseased!!! A sad sight, which also means one can't even harvest any. I was wondering whether it was because of the colder weather here, as I know in Brazil and Argentina where Yerba Mate is traditionally grown, it is hot and humid. I have read articles on it being successfully cultivated in New Zealand however I'm really not too sure about what it'll like here. The other question I have is how to harvest the leaves if they are ready. I've read that commercially cultivated Yerba Mate is dried then roasted (either in some kind of oven or over flames) and then left to mature for a year or two? For a home grower like myself what would be an alternative way to prepare?? I'm guessing a light oven roasting of the leaves? Does it make any difference in the taste if the leaves aren't kept away for 1 - 2 years??

Hi guys, I understand since approx 2007 Piracetam (Nootropil) is schedule IV meaning if importing (as it is not produced in Australia) one requires a doctors prescription. I've been to the doctor to try and get one before and she saw it was not available in Australia and did not know enough about it to prescribe it, and wanted to refer me to a Neurologist, so I would then have to pay a specialist fee and try and get them to prescribe it which is ridiculous!! I've even contacted one of the senior pharmacologists from the TGA experimental drugs section to ask how one can get prescription if they don't even understand the substance properly enough let alone endorse/prescribe it and they really had no answer and were unhelpful. Has anyone had any experiences in trying to get a piracetam prescription with any practitioner and/or know of any contacts or even ways/methods of obtaining one? I also recently read that a person on a forum in 2011 was informed Aniracetam was also Schedule IV in Australia and requires a prescription also but I have not seen any information on the internet about this, and information I've read on an Australian nootropics selling site says Aniracetam IS legal in Australia. Any thoughts on this one, in addition to the other questions above? Thanks.

hey man is that fine sand you have for the mix? You should be using coarse sand for drainage? If seedlings were 1cm I'm not sure how they would go with the weather and temps during transit. Or possibilities of how they died could have been too much direct sunlight and/or heat inside the covered plastic container as a result?

I have a Gnosis. I have no idea about which strains some of these Trichs really are as they all seem to crossover names but when I got it the seller said it was a T Peruvianus strain from the 'Gnosis' Gardens in Germany.

I'd love a cutting too if anyone has any? I'd be happy for a trade/buy.

I had a Mate plant from SAB once but it died when I went away and the weather got very hot. For those growing it though, I'm wondering how you guys will cure and roast the leaves for tea? The Adelaide Botanic Gardens used to have a beautiful big Mate tree there but I couldn't find any leaf roasting techniques from the internet. I also am a big Mate tea fan, was even drinking it at work in an office for a while days in a row, lol.

Hey Chef, I'm also into Carniverous plants, but at the moment only have a venus fly trap. I know a place very close to me which sells them, I think they also have the long stemmed plants that have pods which capture flies and bugs.

just keep waiting man, it'll flower. Your loph may otherwise flower when its between 3 or more so 4cm. They take aaaaaaages to grow!!! Especially if you're in an environment when warm weather only happens for one or two times a year
