    B Caapi Propagation

Dear B Caapi growers Somebody pruned my b caapi vine without my permission and it seems to be struggling to bounce back. It doesn't help that it's been brutally hot and dry. I want to make some cuttings in case I lose the mother plant. Is it better to strike B Caapi cuttings from hard wood or semi hardwood material? It currently has no leaves. Can caapi cuttings without leaves still be successful? Also, will caapi root in a glass of water?

How do you root pereskiopsis ?

Pere is the easiest thing to grow and it grows like a bloody weed. Just stick a cutting in soil and you're good to go. You can even stick it in water and get it to root that way. I was surprised by its ability to grow hydroponically in a glass of water. I'd recommend putting your cuttings in a bigger pot to start with so you can produce a lot more yourself and once you have a bunch of new growth you can use the tips to make cuttings for grafting.

    B Caapi Propagation

Yeah, the lack of leaves worries me but I'll see how it goes. The cooler and more humid weather in my area might help it bounce back. No pics at the moment but if I'm feeling up to it I'll take some. Thanks for your input, people.

    B Caapi Propagation

Thanks for the response. I saw the post by Casuarius and used some Google-Fu before posting but I didn't see much on people striking cuttings without leaves or by using the water method. I've moved my plant into a more shady spot. I can see it has some green section and it looks like it's developing buds for new growth. I just hope that the heat isn't too much for the poor girl. It used to thrive so well.

    Bunnings Bagged Manure

Look on Gumtree. Owners of horses and stables gives that shit away for nothing.
  8. How did you go about propagating them in WA? Also, what kind of trades are you looking for?
  9. I used it as a potential treatment for my migraines. It has helped others but it didn't help me. I didn't notice any other effects. It cost me about $70ish per month and I had to keep it in the fridge. It expired after a month and I had to use it 3 times per day which is kind of annoying for a medication that you have to keep cold. It would've made travel a bitch had I remained on it.

Haha I thought the pressure cooked grain smell was bad enough but pressure cooked shit stinking up the house sounds horrible. What do you use to pasteurise your straw with?

    Presto pressure cookers

I don't use a trivet. I've used my AA921 on gas cookers and on electric hot plates. However, although it works on an electric hot plate it's a bitch to get the temperature at the sweet spot. I ended up buying a portable cast iron gas burner which I can connect to a gas cylinder. They're cheap as chips on eBay. It'd also be handy to use for sterilising straw for oyster mushroom grows outside.

    Presto pressure cookers

Amazon has always had the best prices in the past and I assume it's still the same. Too bad the AUD isn't higher but you're still better off buying from Amazon. If you have the money then buy an All American 921 or better. It'll last forever and you don't have to replace rubber seals because it has none.

Pasteurization of bulk substrate using Sous Vide

I saw someone make a writeup on another forum about using a sous vide to pasteurise substrate. It looked alright for a small amount but I'd rather use gas if I were pasteurising a large amount.
  17. I think what you were trying to talk about in the first paragraph isn't addiction to pain but what's called "central sensitisation" or "central pain syndrome". This is where mindfulness and meditation can come in handy. Check these links for more info: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3268359/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_pain_syndrome Yeah, I was surprised by the information on low dose naltrexone. This might be of great value to you, especially if your body has become addicted to opioids. Also, you shouldn't feel bad about taking opioids for pain if you're prescribed them for legitimate reasons. They are good tools when it comes to treating pain, however, the downside is the side effects. Which anti depressants (and other meds) have you tried for chronic pain so far and what kind of pain and injury do you have? I highly recommend getting a nerve block and pulsed RF. If you have private health insurance then it might be fully covered and it's only a day procedure. You go into hospital in the morning, the docs knock you out and do what they have to do and then you wake up groggy and get someone to take you home. Private health insurance might also cover a spinal cord stimulator which can help you get off or reduce medication intake. I had a nerve block and pulsed RF some months ago and I had a lot of pain relief. I thought it didn't work at first but after a few days or a week I noticed a lot of my nerve pain had gone. I also noticed that my mental health was better because I wasn't in so much pain. I was able to have a big night out with friends and not be worried and anxious about the pain I was in. I could stand and walk for long periods and it was great. Alas, it's worn off but I'm going to get it done again. By the way, do you see a pain specialist or any other docs for your chronic pain?
  18. I haven't heard of this but I'm going to look into it. One thing to remember is that not all pain is the same so there are different treatments for different kinds of pain. Furthermore, what works for one person might not work for another. Something that you might be interested in is low dose naltrexone. Although it's an opioid antagonist low doses of naltrexone can have paradoxical analgesic effects. Moreover, it can reduce (or perhaps reverse) opioid induced hyperalgesia and allodynia. There are numerous other drugs that one can try for chronic pain. There are the anti convulsants such as pregabalin and gabapentin. These drugs may also help with sleep and anxiety etc. Then there are the various anti depressants that one can use for pain. Tricyclic anti depressants such as amitriptyline and nortriptyline are used for neuropathic pain and migraines as well as depression, anxiety, ADHD and numerous other maladies. Other anti depressants which have analgesic properties are the SNRIs such as Duloxetine and Venlafaxine. There's also Bupropion which can help with nerve pain and is another anti depressant. However, it is similar in structure to cathinones and substituted phenethylamines which probably explains why it's helpful in treating ADHD. In addition there are opioids, cannabinoids, benzodiazepines, NSAIDs, Botox, steroids, nerve blocks, pulsed radio frequency therapies, spinal cord stimulators, ketamine, mindfulness meditation, exercise and a multitude of other treatments depending on what kind of pain issue you're dealing with.

Hey yo What's happened to the Perth SAB gatherings? There hasn't been one for ages. Do any of you still meet up? It's Summer again and it's the perfect time to have a gathering again.

    Looking for Milo, Millet, Sorghum.

Which brew shop do you get your rye grain from and how much does it cost per kg? I've seen people advertise large bags of grain on Gumtree before which were 20kg or more. I remember seeing numerous sellers of wheat but I can't remember if I searched for other grains on Gumtree. The bags at Better Pets and Gardens were big but didn't contain 20kg, however, their grain was still cheap compared to the food grade stuff I had seen at grocers etc. You just need to make sure the grade isn't so low that it's full of cracked grains which can turn into a soggy mush. You could also try using oats and barley. You don't have to use them for every jar that you inoculate but it'd be a good experiment and I'm sure the results would be appreciated by the community. By the way, Better Pets and Gardens sells the Richgro brand of coir which I liked when using the bucket tek. The Richgro brand breaks apart and hydrates easily compared to the Brunnings brand. When I used the Brunnings brand it wasn't breaking apart and hydrating very well which no doubt caused problems with pasteurisation because I had some horrible green mold problems which I didn't have when I used the Richgro brand.

    Why not wheat?

    Looking for Milo, Millet, Sorghum.

Why don't you want to use wheat? There are two places I can think of where you might have some luck finding these grains. The first is Better Pets and Gardens. I've seen various grains sold in the pet food section. The other place is Loose Produce in Como. When I started mycology I used rye grain but it wasn't always available and it wasn't cheap. Wheat, on the other hand, is easily found and can be bought cheaply and in bulk. If that's not available then buy a bag of wild bird seed.

What coir brand for bulk substrate?

I'm the one who didn't like Brunnings and prefers Richgro. "Read a comment talking about why coir was so contam resistant due to the high pressures it goes through when being presesd into bricks." Your comment that I quoted above doesn't sound right either. Coir isn't clean and it tends to have added trich. This is why people pasteurise it before use. If you don't pasteurise it properly then you're going to have a bad time.

    Hi all from NSW

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Amazon is the best place for pressure cookers. If you want a cheap one then get a Presto. If you want quality that'll last then buy an All American.
