    Obscure tricho hybrid

Was this perchance from an Asian salesperson? Got a similarly labelled hybrid through NZs main auction site, had a bit of trouble finding out its heritage due to a language barrier between myself and the seller.. He said the cross was based on the flowers of the parent plants. Would be interested to find out more either way

    facebook name changes

S Seen a couple pop up, seems like as soon as the money is there or the possibility of money is there they sell out your privacy Any good suggestions of sites with a code of ethics or something they will have to stick to even if it gets popular..
  3. about ten mins from where I live, when were you here bro? Or are you the aussie cat into feijoa extracts that came stayed with us last summer?

Thinning the herd out : caespitosas

Lovely plants Mutey hope you find good homes/growers for them in yewrup. How old is the Strombo (?) in the bottom of the pic?
  5. deeerrrrp, original reason for posting apart from the welcome: I should be going out to where my Peres are growing up here in the next week or so, will be taking cuttings for summer for my own propagation but will of course keep the community in mind. Also, got some 3rd generation N. rustica and 4th gen N. tabacum seeds saved up if they interest you...
  6. Hey bro welcome to the forums and the greater Aotearoa ethno community Shoot me a PM (i will forget) and we can talk about tings, maybe further down the line work out goodie bags or trades. Think I have some spare Tricho X seeds bit might need to redo the labels.. can source Datura, Leonotis, Pukatea, Macropiper and many others locally as seed or cutting (out of a garden/collection) when the time of year is right. Also will be taking plenty of spore prints of local medicinals and edibles this year if that is of interest to anyone.. What are the genetics of the seedlings you posted pics of above?

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVIL GENIUS!

    to the mad botanist x
  10. I'm a bit more settled now but not having much luck striking any cuttings from my one Withania plant so I'm on the look out for seed. Recently got the doc's diagnosis for psoriatic arthritis so looking for any plants that help with the immune system, inflammation etc.. Planning to do a bit of a write up on what I have discovered so far and how it ties in with Aryuveda, Chinese herbalism and Western medical thought. Any species other than Withania somnifera, or different chemotypes would be appreciated. Would be great to get a lot of seed as there isn't anyone growing it here and I would like to spread it through the community. Don't have too much to trade at the moment but I'm pretty sure I have given out a bit of this seed before, if so would appreciate if someone sent a few back to me Trades ( will add more when i remember ) Nicotiana rustica seed Coriaria seed Trichocereus hybrid seed ... or i could draw you a nice picture

    Mandrake cultivation discussion

90% sure i found these in the greenhouse at the old's after reintroducing my seeds that failed to sprout under my conditions back into the soil. The rosette and tap root seemed spot on but I never saw them flower, looking at mutants pictures makes me kick myself for not keeping more of an eye on them. Ma is a witch so it might have been growing there before me. Great thread by the way mutey, definitely need some info I can trust on growing/harvesting.

    New Zealand customs

all of those apart from Zeus are already growing in NZ even if they don't make it.. Maybe not the long limb TBM, at least that I have seen what Ceres said is true, if they snap seeds and also applies if they find live plants/cuttings..

    My first graft

Had been expecting this after leaving for a few months and it starting to heat up with summer that my graft would get a spider mite infestation again, being inside the greenhouse and all. Bar hitching home with it, not really an option as the stock is decent and I don't want to risk it's safety, I'm thinking of planting it or at least leaving it somewhere outside, semi covered. Have seen other grafts recover really well from borg attack this way and they haven't succumb to it again.. Anyone in Melbourne or other higher rainfall (i imagine) areas have larger grafts outside, over winter? I ask as my only worry is moisture between the pups causing rot, hasnt been a problem on smaller grafts outside.. Just over 3 y.o, definitely slowed down a lot without daily loving and it's even obeser sibling (not my grafting skillz). a decent handful same age as far as I recall

    Ephedra photos, 2 y.o

@Ceres Tomorrow, and yup we might have to do that too I'm not sure if it was me or the plants but they seemed fussy when young, could get turned to skeletons easily if I missed watering on a hot day. Which surprised me for what I thought was a xerophyte, perhaps it was my growing medium, although it was fairly organic. or that I pampered them too much so that on a hot day they didn't handle it as well.. Yup these are in the glasshouse, I'm sure the roots reach well beyond the edge of it though. They grew fine outside in the ground till I let them get overgrown

    Ephedra photos, 2 y.o

I wanted to show off some Ephedra as I'm at home for a few days and had access to a camera. They were sown just over 2 years ago, good germ rates, not too much dampening off etc etc. Species sown were E. nebrodensis (think this might be considered E. major), E. nevadensis and E. fragilis. Anyone with experience cultivating these, have your plants flowered? What age did this occur at and did they have any particular special treatment. E. fragilis E. nebrodensis Lost label for this one, assume its E. fragilis or E. nebrodensis as there were more of them than the E. nevadensis.. but then the growth habit of this one is much more compact and less sprawling.. (edit) sorry for a couple of the pics quality i should have taken more but it's hard to capture something like Eph. in an image.

    Artwork

amazing stuff, i really like lots of dot work or line work and can really appreciate the blood & sweat that goes in. cheers for posting
  19. Looks like the A. vulgaris that grows around here, what I refer to as Mugwort at least. Perhaps there is something that sets this apart as another species but I just had a look at my seed grown plant and can't see any noticeable difference.

  21. Hey, I got a deal on a bunch of brugs a while back where most had no label or it was half gone. this one stands out amongst the bunch, and grows well all seasons here like B. sanguinea but it's leaves seem different.. maybe it is just another form of sanguinea I have heard it is variable.. oh no flowers yet..

    Kawakawa - Macropiper excelsum

Uhm, it tastes good and is useful for freshing your breath but I haven't noticed any effects quidding 10 - 20 leaves over a day. apparently rats dont like to be fed it i think some bioassays of the roots would be interesting. oh and i think the essential oils might have been worth noting too, similar to nutmeg http://www.entheology.org/edoto/anmviewer.asp?a=67
