i started using akadama in my soil mixes about 2 yrs ago and i gotta tell ya the stuff is great i have seen some really noticeable improvement in my plants since using it W.A. is the worst though we dont have shit you wont even find scoria in bunnings or anywhere the rest of my soil mixes are pretty much made up of the usual shitty old cacti mix from bunnings with all the big bits sieved out and i collect river stone from a friends property where theres a nice creek running through with plenty of good stone in it which im able to grade into 3 sizes the smallest stuff i use for seedling mixes and the rest go's into larger pots i also occasionally buy a load of scoria and pumice off ebay which i only use for certain things i gotta say soil mix really is a bitch i think most of us just have to take what we can get and improvise our own mixes

thought i'd post an update on this freaky character so amazing to watch this guy grow so unpredictable pretty shitty pics was in a bit of a rush and a few super x j3 crests

So I'm fairly new to growing ariocarpus and well I absolutely love em However I only have single specimens that don't have any pups Just going off all the pictures I see they seem to pup from the base not the tubercles or in between the tubercles is this correct ? Or do they pup from the older lower tubercles ? My question is if I were to BAP them to induce pupping where would be the best place to do it Should I uproot them or atleast uncover some of the base and BAP it there I'm also wondering how the hell to get my asterias to pup I've had no problems getting all of my astro's to pup except for asterias What's with that I've even bapped heaps of em and not one has ever pupped And I know it's not my mix as it works on everything else

still gotta get a cutting off that bloke even if its not a true long form TBM its an awesome looking plant

this seems to be the case with most of them i think naja like any cactus when it pups it tends to put most of its growth into the pup so chopping off straight arms allows it put that growth back into the crest itself

my super x j3 crests throw crested pups i have couple of pach crests that are just starting to pup so to hard to tell at the moment if they will crest or revert

i think drinking alot more water and cutting out the chock milk is a very good thing its late and im not sure if i said it earlier but i was really really bad with the coffee i have cut it out completely and that has really helped alot for me so i think even if your not a coffee drinker cutting out that chock milk and getting some more water in will be a very good thing lots of water is always good give it a little bit of time buddy and i will have a place you are more than welcome to stay at whenever you need a break im heading up to perth for the next few weeks but when i get back if you'd like to come down and stay for a break from the city mate you are more than welcome even a small amount of time a week or a weekend to really think about things in a quiet calm place could be a very good thing for ya and from someone who is in a very similar mindset as you maybe we could both be a good help to each other mate offers always there if you wanna get away for a bit bro, Myco.

i defintitely agree with this piling up bad memories or pushing unwanted past issues aside is never a good thing when i first started having issues with anxiety and depression i found alot of my past childhood problems and blocked out memories pushed aside began to come back to haunt me getting these issues out even just talking to someone telling them the things you have been through can help get it off your chest and help the process of moving forward

it could also be due to not enough air exchange although the many holes in a shotgun terrarium allow for good air flow you should still take the lid of atleast once or twice a day and give it a really good fanning with the lid i've had up to 5 and 6 good flushes with nothing but BRF cakes in a shotgun terrarium

On the Zoloft mate I have been prescribed anti depresent which is also used for anxiety and OCD I take those and Xanax daily which of course isn't a good thing but I highly recommend finding a new doctor And explaining to them the medication you have been on and make it clear that it has not helped as I say I was on one particular medication for around 2 yrs which never really helped After seeing a new doctor and being put on different meds the difference is quite amazing really I hate meds of this kind as much as the next person but from what you are saying you really seem to have very similar issues to me I cannot meditate I get agitated I can't shut my mind off I'm sure with more practice it would become easier however I have tried it alot and I just can't seem to do it much like you It also sounds like where you are in life is not helping I get the impression you are basically living a life you don't want to live Sometimes you really need to try and take a step back and think about what you really want in life and where you want to be Find what that is and try and make some goals to achieve the life you want Even the smallest steps towards those goals can really really help give you that confidence and happiness that you can't find The 9-5 rat race lifestyle is not for everyone I've been there and done that in the past and it certainly isn't for me Maybe you need a break from the city mate head south for a while try a more relaxed slow paced lifestyle it might be just what you need With my new block off land and my screwed up back I'll be needing some on and off work done and some help with things could get ya a few $ mate i really think gettin out of the city could be a great thing for ya though mate

some pics would probably help but as for words of wisdom make sure you cut all the stock out this may mean cutting up into the bottom of it kinda like a bowl

i have the same problem at times mate i've also been diagnosed with a number of things including depression and a panic disorder i seem to feel like its my anxiety when it happens alot of the time stuff like this can be very complicated how long have you been on zoloft for i was given one anti depressant which i was on for a couple of yrs and never had much progress with them i've since seen a different doctor am on different medication aswell as seeing a psychologist it has really helped me alot im still not in a very good way but i feel like im making slow progress

im all for anything to keep the forums going and growing whether its paying an annual fee a lifetime fee or ads i would suggest though that the content of the ads be not anything that would suggest illegal things it probably wouldn't look to good if we had ads for say kronic or maybe psilocybe spore vendors and things like that that may just look bad for us in general if you know what i mean
