    Raspberry leaf and Bearberry sound like good ideas! Yes I realize smoking anything is bad but the nicotine makes me super dizzy and feel like crap.

    Haha I'd prefer something that grows naturally that I don't have to alter (except by drying/curing). Are there any strains of tobacco that are low/no-nicotine? If not somebody should make one!

    Also planning to hit the Shibundoy valley (see the book "One River") and Huancabamba in Peru... any other "MUST SEE" locations for the ethnobotanist? Also... ruins in Colombia? I heard there are some coca chewing statues.

    Does Coca REALLY grow in Trujillo? I'm fairly close to there now. I have a hard time believing that. Here in Lima it's desert. I'm headed to Matucana in a week though! Any tips on what to do there besides the obvious?

    Other Names for "Huachuma"

    I am currently in the Peruvian Andes and am looking for other names for "Huachuma" or "San Pedro", both of which seem to be Spanish or have Spanish influence. I have heard "Huachuma" means dizzy but I have also heard this is incorrect. A Quechua friend told me "chuma" means "not sweet". "San Pedro", of course, means "St.Peter", who is said to hold the keys to heaven.

    We know them as "Ghost Pipes" in North America and they have medicinal (possibly even psychoactive) uses, tho I'm not sure about this species.
