IceCube replied to J Smith's topic in Legal Matters

Hi everyone, Just a quick message to the people I owe trades to (or ones I have sent and that have not arrived yet). I live right near Rockhampton, QLD, which has been affected/cut-off by the floods. If you can just send me a message verifying what I owe you, that would be great. I am going through my trades now and have not posted/resent things because I don't think the mail is moving, however I just want to make sure I have every trade ready to post when I can. My PM inbox is almost full so I may have lost you! Cheers
-
Hey, Mail is finally going and thus it is time to send out these well overdue trades! If I have not sent you a PM by now, could you please send me one with your address and what I owe you? I had to clear my PM inbox so I may have missed some people

4 votes off 6th place! Can you post the email Torsten? I am going to write my own to submit to the local paper, etc but one to forward whilst I am busy would be grand! -
No worries will do when there is light

100% germ rate with the ones I planted Many thanks to planthelper. You can see why we are told to plant them wing up now, I am also guessing you would get a similar effect with planting the wing directly down as well. Also noticed in one pot that some plants have red stems as opposed to the normal green colour!

Local papers, perhaps we should get a standard letter where we can just replace our names on it? Or we could form a non profit coalition of some sorts so we have a group voice. -
Oh and anyone who is interested in saving a nice species of plant should keep watch for a phleb thread I will be starting soon

Stopping the Illegalisation of 1000's of Plant species
IceCube replied to unseen4ce's topic in News & Notices
WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE? Seriously, how did this even come up in discussion to add this shit to the list? I can just see these fuckheads picturing 1000 acre hydro trich farms LOL -
Hey there, Finally got around to identifying a cactus which was growing in my paddock as Harrisia martinii. From what I've seen, in the last 2 months, it's produced pups (many, many, many, many) that have grown in excess of 30cm! Now, I don't know what the growth rate of pereskopsis is as I've only just thrown my cuttings into the ground, but this looks ridiculously high! So I got thinking and had a quick google, but couldn't really find much on the net about using Harrisia as a grafting stock. Basically all I found was that you CAN but no elaboration or personal experience. I've got some pachycerus pringleii seedlings which I want to graft, but I fear the peres won't be sturdy enough to take the scion when it's huge (the seedlings planted at the same time as pachanoi and peruvianus are almost 4 times the size now!) Q: Has anyone tried using it as a stock? Q: Would anybody like some for free to try using? I know they're everywhere in QLD but maybe some southerners would like some :D Thank you in advance
-
Done for sure Had to regraft the ficus-indica as the scion fell off. This time I am using weight and cut them more squarely. Will save the opuntia for another thread :D

Here is another interesting journal article with pictures: If anyone has access, I would like to request the following article please: Vyskot, B.; Jara, Z. Clonal propagation of cacti through axillary buds in vitro. J. Hortic. Sci. 59:449-452; 1984. That reference describes the micropropagation of T. spach so it's obviously very interesting :D Micropropagation of pitaya ( Hylocereus undatus Britton et rose).pdf

Keen but don't live in Syd. Had some really interesting things that called for chloroform actually!

Hi Harry, the species I am using is Opuntia ficus-indica. It grows EVERYWHERE around here is also grows very fast. I had one paddle's roots completely take over a pot the same size as the one I posted above in around 3 months. It's pretty interesting to watch a new paddle form, they really do come from nowhere! If anyone is interested in trading opuntia cuttings, I am all for trying new species!

tripsis, here are the articles, along with an interesting one I found a few months ago whilst researching tissue culture. We seem to be getting into this at the same time, hopefully we can share info at some stage! My primary interests are micropropagating cacti, acacias and native Erythloxium. My worm farm has developed maggots
IceCube replied to hutch's topic in Sustainable Technologies & Ethical Living
I had a maggot problem at home when I went to clean up a place where I leave mangos to ripen, the ants around the house made short work of them once they found them though! -
Thanks mate! Tomorrow I will take some more cuttings and get some of the many, many trich seedlings I have going. The plan is to graft a heap at the same time against Opuntia and peres.

I live in a town near Rockhampton (Gracemere) but have not been personally affected much, apart from not being able to get into town (bored shitless and 15 min drive to get food, nothing too major).

Here is an update. Today I grafted a pup off a log of PC pach to a stock which was just sitting in the yard. The scion is a better fit than the other I have tried so I am thinking this time could be it! I am also putting the plants in a humidity tent this time! I will get a photo of the grafted peruvianus tomorrow when I move it back into a pot!
