What did you do in your sacred garden today?

Some 20 day old erythroxylum australe seedlings. Had about a 30% germination rate by putting them in coir in a zip-loc bag. Inside the bag, they were quite etiolated, so next time I will go in a chinese container so they have light. Contact for trade/seed

    WANTED: Acacia nodules

Hi guys, Looking at propagating courtii and phleb but don't want to plant anything until I can inoculate the soil. Have been doing some research into making a liquid inoculant for acacias as the main commercial product has been discontinued. I have found a selective media that will only generate Bradyrhizobium and methods to liquid culture it, just need a sample. Based off the phylogenetic tree, obtusifolia seems to be the best bet, as it's the most-related to phleb and courtii, however longifolia and maidenii are also OK. While I wait for my lines of inquiry to culture collections to play out, I was wondering if anyone down south were able to dig around the base of an acacia and send me some samples of the nodules. Literally any species will do, as the rhizobia are very general in their selections. Person to do it gets the first batch of the liquid inoculant which should be able to do thousands of seeds with a few mL (so we can share it around easy :D:D). Cheers Taylor

    Raising A.Phlebophylla

Has there been success with this? As I am doing tissue culture experiments, I would like to obtain a pure culture (but then I should just buy it lol). One experiment I was going to try was making a homogenate of some acacia nodules and culturing them/innoculating directly.

    Raising A.Phlebophylla

Anyone have a source for a Bradyrhizobium innoculant? I have found Wattle Grow but it's $100 for enough to do 75kg of seed. Anyone want to go halves? I want to use to germinate courtii and phleb.

    Acacia propagation tips

The gel is probably the same concentration as what they used (1g/L) so you could use it as is. Tbh don't think that the acetone will make a difference, they probably just make up their hormone solution from powder. Also one avenue worth investigating could be air layering. Always wanted to try this on recalcitrant species.

Here are two journal articles on it. First is the full text of the one posted earlier and second is a review which mentions it as a substitute for coca. I have no idea how to find the reference from the review which is: Victoria Castro R. Pereskiopsis flowering

Completely agree re: them all being the same clone They are native to Mexico (http://www.cites.org/eng/cop/14/prop/E14-P25.pdf) - anyone know any cacti-heads in Mex? Here's a cool thread, his flower morphology is different and looks more like a perskia (in terms in the leaves - never seen one flower) http://forum.auscactiforum.net/t960-pereskiopsis Before I head home tomorrow I shall graft the two together to induce flowering and hopefully be able to cross-pollenate Here is a list of all the known species, along with detailed information, including pictures. I think I may have had a spathulata at some point, based on it's pointy leaves, but they also change shape with age so it's very difficult to tell Off topic: see attachment re: actives in it - not much though ;) peres pheneth.pdf

    Led grow lights

Sorry have not read much of the topic, but I recently did a lot of research because I made an LED array for my marine fish tank. Would not advise making them yourself as you need to by driver boards, DC power supply etc etc etc This product, just needs to plug into the wall and it's got a heatsink and driver BUILT in. For that price it is a steal. However, I am also against using only blues and reds as plants do adsorb across the whole colour range, mostly for regulatory behaviours like determining what time of year it is, or which direction to grow etc. Just supplement with a few 5000K CFLs if it's an issue for you http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-hydroponics-lighting-AC85-265V-50W-E27-RED-BLUE-SMD-500-LEDS-Hydroponic-LED-Plant-Grow/1719328037.html They need an e27 fitting: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/5X-E27-to-AU-US-Plug-LED-Bulb-Lamp-Socket-Base-Adapter-Converter-on-off-button/1739987391.html Or this one appears to terminate in a cord so you don't have to do anything dodgy/illegal http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Multi-colored-chandelier-Cord-E27-lamp-sets-of-silicone-foam-Dragonball-Edison-light-bulb-hanging-wire/1764609174.html Enjoy
