    Hoodia Gordonii Germination.

Thanks Guys . . I just recieved some more seeds and the information given is great! . . I think ill give them another go but using the zip-lock bag method, i have had some great results with this method with cactus. I can also put them in individual pots this way to avoid transplanting down the track. I think i may cut some holes in the sides to let them "breathe" a bit also. I have been reading around about this dreaded "damping off" issue that people keep experiencing and i have also read that Camomile tea is a great natural preventative. Would you think watering them with Camomile tea may stop the Mold/Fungus problem? Thanks again for the replys. Ratwick.

    Hoodia Gordonii Germination.

Hi all, I have had a go at germinating Hoodia Gordonii with no luck so far. I have searched around and cannot seem to find much info on germinating them. The method i have tried so far was to place them just under the surface of a Cactus Soil/Course Sharp Sand Mix in a small pot sitting in a tray of water, which i placed in front of the window. It has now been over a week and still no signs of germination . . I am a bit worried as the water it is sitting in does not seem to soak its way to the top and thus keeps drying out. I seem to be spraying it constantly to keep it moist. Has anyone had any luck in getting this succulent to grow. Would i have better luck placing the pot in a Zip-lock bag next time to prevent drying out. Any tips would be appreciated. Cheers.

    General Khat Advice

I have heard that full sun for these plants. Also, make sure you either plant in the ground or bury your pots as i have heard they need to have cool roots.
  11. I have read that mosquito dunks work for Fungus Gnats. They contain the beneficial bacteria Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner var. israelensis . When the Gnat larvae injest it, they stop eating and die within 48hours. It obviously works great for mosquito's aswell The only problem i seem to have is i cannot seem to find it anywhere in Australia. I just purchased a pack of 20 from ebay. Apparently 1 dose is enough to cover 100 square feet.

    greenhouse

I have a greenhouse that i bought of ebay for cheap .. This biggest problem i am facing at the moment is keeping it cool, as it does not have a flap on the roof to let the hot air out. I am going to have to cut one out as the temp can get as high as 50C in there on a hot day.

I dont think the live plants are illegal. As long as there is no intent for preparation or consumption. . . I found this info in the SAB store: 1) The importation of Banisteriopsis caapi, Psychotria viridis, Diplopteris cabrerana and any other DMT or harmine/harmaline containing herbal material into Australia is prohibited under the Customs Act 1901, Regulations, Schedule 4 (Drugs). 2) The export of Banisteriopsis caapi, Psychotria viridis, Diplopteris cabrerana and any other DMT or harmine/harmaline containing herbal material is prohibited under Schedule 8 (export regulations) of the Customs Act. 3) Possession of DMT/harmine/harmaline containing herbal material such as Banisteriopsis caapi, Psychotria viridis, Diplopteris cabrerana and any other DMT or harmine/harmaline containing herbal material is illegal under the Standard for the uniform scheduling of drugs and poisons (Australia), Schedule 9 (the same schedule as Heroin!!!!!) which is enacted as law under under the Drug control acts of each Australian State. 4) Consumption of any DMT/harmine/harmaline containing material is prohibited under state legislation in most Australian states. 5) Ayahuasca brew is deemed to be harmine/harmaline under the law (ie 100ml of the brew is deemed to be 100g of drug). In fact, any herbal material is deemed to be the drug (ie 100g of ayahuasca vine is deemed to be 100g of harmine/harmaline). 6) In NSW the penalties for possession of harmine/harmaline are severe. The commercial quantity limit (maximum penalty = 20 years prison) is set at 5g. The large commercial quantity limit (maximum penalty = life in prison) is set at 20g. (note the penalty for 20g of harmine/harmaline is equivalent to 500g of ecstasy, or 1kilo of heroin, or1 kilo of cocaine, or 2 kilos of DMT, or 1000 cannabis plants) 7) Ayahuasca possession and consumption is legal in Holland, Brazil and some other countries. In Brazil a study commissioned by the government has shown that ayahuasca consumption was beneficial for society and individuals. 8) It is our understanding that live plants are not restricted in any way within Australia as long as there is no intent for preparation or consumption. Our plants are available for preservation purposes only. Sorry all i havent posted pics yet .. i have been a bit busy lately. . I just had an outbreak of fungus gnat larvae which ate quite a number of my seeds (little S.O.B's) Anyways .. Ill keep you all informed.

    My Ethnobotanical Garden.

Thanks Mate. When i first got my Kava it started to go brown on the tip of its leaves .. I didn't think much of it at first, then i noticed that it was like a disease, it started to eat up the whole leaf. . . I ended up cutting what was brown off and then put the poor girl under a 1L bottle (she is still quite small). . Since i have done that it has taken off! ... It now has two new leaves and alot of new growth. I must say it is my Favourite plant out of the lot, everyday i see some new growth. . . Hopefully when i get my Greenhouse up and going She can live in there happily without a plastic bottle. Ill post some pics tommorow.
