    Comedians?

I like Mike Birbiglia, who I get to see live tomorrow evening. Great comedian and storyteller.

    comics

Perry Bible Fellowship is the most consistently funny shit I've encountered. I'm up to vol. 3 of Transmetropolitan, which I see (so far) as a world intentionally crafted to be both familiar and have infinite possibilities, which is a hook for me. That, and I've always liked Dr. Thompson, caricature and all.

    Anna Nicole Smith dead.

Maybe my sarcasmometer needs a new battery, but if not: yeah, you go on thinking that.

7 years jail for owning a book on making drugs

You raise an interesting and troubling point, Stonehenge, but I'd argue there's a pretty big difference between the criminalization of possessing drug manufacturing literature and child porn. Both are rationalized on the basis of enabling acts that are illegal, but I see a world of difference between laws against substance use--- a victimless crime--- and an underground industry that is inherently exploitative of children. I suppose it could be argued by proponents of the War on Some Drugs that the drug trade is exploitative of some, but I'd argue in turn that it's the artificially-illicit nature of the drug trade in which people can be considered exploited. However, even if child porn was legal as church on Sunday, it still would mean that children are being cruelly and disgustingly used. In other words, I don't think it's just "disgust" that drives laws against child porn. Hell, if someone owns a lot of pornographic literature about children, I'll think he or she's a sick fuck not fit for civil society, but I don't think that should be a reason to throw them in jail. But if they own media that shows a real, living child being violated, I can't in good conscience argue that it's totalitarian repression on the part of the state that throws that sick fuck in jail. Of course, I think the root problem here is that the people that make laws ultimately don't seem to see much of a difference between drug use by consenting adults and child porn.

    rivea corymbosa experiences?

I've heard claims that even the small amount of chlorine in tap water is bad for LSAs--- I have no idea if it's true, but if one is soaking the ground up seeds, might be good to use distilled water? Or is this not necessary?

    Quiting nicotine, any tips?

If you practice meditation, use that as your weapon against cravings. It may sound lame, but when a craving hit, several controlled deep breaths helped to me to bear it until the craving passed. If you don't meditate, mebbe now is a good time to start. One simple exercise that motivated me was sitting down and calculating how much money I'd blown on smokes since I started smoking. Cost of a pack * number of packs in a day * number of days in a year * number of years I had smoked regularly = holy shit, I coulda bought a boat. I've heard anecdotal evidence that lowish doses of GHB do wonders in killing monster cravings and curbing irritability. Of course, you don't probably don't want to break the law, or become dependent on one drug in order to quit another. It's rough-- it really is one of the hardest things you'll ever have to do--- but it's also one of the smartest. Good luck!

    brain-damaged Florida woman Terri Schiavo

    Nutmeg rocks my world

Very interesting--- I'd like to hear more. Have you noticed any significant adverse health effects in your previous research? What is your opinion on the often mentioned but apparently unsubstantiated theory that certain allylbenzenes are aminated into the corresponding amphetamines via the human liver? I mean, certainly ingestion of these allylbenzenes i.e. myristicin have an effect--- but is it actually the same effect as the corresponding amphetamine, or something else entirely? Re: mace--- I'm not ashamed to say that in my younger days I occasionally consumed more nutmeg than is seemly. :D I eventually found that a 1:1 mix of mace and nutmeg (both purchased preground) seemed rather more worthwhile than just nutmeg. Much less palatable, though, if that's possible.

    Fear and Loathing.........

I beleive the movie to be the best (read: most faithful) movie-of-a-book made to date. Well, best that I've seen. But the book is still much better, naturally. quote: Dr Gonzo snap then inhale are these the "two dozen amyls" what kind of inhalant/substance is it ??? Amyl nitrate. quote: also the andrenocrone that HST took way to much and Dr Gonzo was saying how he got it of a satanist who said that he gets it out of pineal glans in ppls heads????Is this true and would it produce the hallucinations HST experienced???Adrenochrome Basics quote: take everything Thompson writes about his drug consumption w/a big pinch ov saltYes.

    Datura stramonium

quote: can it be grown in a pot indoors? Will it flower in a pot? Yes and yes. I've been growing three different Datura species (stramonium, metel, and inoxia) for a couple years now. (In my current apartment, it's almost the only thing I have room to grow! ) I put them in the window, where they get a few hours of direct sunlight. They seem flower often & year-round. My inoxia is just about to flower right now, and it's the dead of winter here.

New Church using 2CI as sacrament

Yeah, I saw this a while ago. That's one really, really cynical attempt at a legal defense for sale and distribution of a drug that would certainly fall under any sort of Analog Act. I don't see it working in the long run, but then Canada seems more tolerant than, say, the U.S. quote: SPICE is a sacrament used by the church to assist individuals in obtaining enlightenment. Riiiiiiight. Jeez, if you're picking a research chemical to sell--- oops, I mean "use as a "sacrament"--- at least pick a better one than 2C-I. Good luck to them, I guess. [ 13. New Stuff on Erowid Jan 2005

It was partiuclarly interesting to see William White's response to criticism on his article from over six years ago, no matter how brief it might've been. Nice to see that even the old folks still check in every now and then.

    nail to the head

I once knew someone who accidentally ran his walking lawnmower over some heavy gauge wire hidden underneath the grass. The mower apparently drove the wire clean through his right calf. He didn't notice the wound 'til some time later, when he went to his kitchen for a cold drink and his wife screamed at his bloody leg and the wire he was dragging behind him.
