Irie,
Treat them like coffee.
I would clean and dry them off then store in fairly dry spagnum....otherwise they might sprout.
They may take six months to sprout anyways.....

Irie,
Up-date
This is the latest from Pedro:
"There are three possibilities.
Serjania equestris, S. laevigata or S. nodosa. I would need to see the leaves to be able to tell the species."

Irie,
So got a reply from some buddies at an online group......
"Are we seeing several vascular cylinders in the cross sections, most noticeable in the piece on the right, all surrounded by a common periderm? If so this is characteristic of Serjania (maybe other genera too) Sapindaceae. Serjania do seem to have Amerindian medicinal usesSerjania mexicana is found in Jamaica (Acevedo seed catalog). If there are three external vascular bundles in mature stems that would give three ribs perhaps leading to the local name!"I think he's aced it!Respect,Z- 1

^^ That's Voacanga...
Irie T,
Bang on.
My question is how big do these get????
Running out of space in my yard but just planted out a bunch of seedlings(50 odd) about 2 years old, that were totally root bound in there little baggies!
Found the seeds I got from the US, really easy to sprout had at least 100+ but managed to cull them down to 50 odd!

Is this a mimosa hostilis? It had white puffball type flowers before putting these pods out.. approx a year and a half old..
Irie Bro,
Are you sure this is hostilis????
Don't look it IMHO!
This looks more like Luecinda?
Plus your description of white BALL!!! flowers.
Hostilis flowers are long white!
Respect,
Z
I'm sure I've posted true hostilis pics here before!

Around 3 years, 6ft'ish.
Now weed status in my veggie beds!
They lose a lot of leaves, a right pain in the ass over the cars in the driveway.

Irie,
I'm with ph on this one;
in short only pick what you need, the tree is better than the fridge, imho.
Of the 4 pear trees in mi yard, 3 of them have totally different tastes.
Not sure what that pear next to the egg is but as has been said, it's well small.
We're in pear season now, which usually only last till November. Last year I had one tree produce till March!!
I know of a tree across the valley that has pears that big and bigger! The tree's branches often break under the excessive weight.
My trees are so tall that I usually wait for windfall for home consumption! 2 or 3 a day!

Irie,

Irie,
I've wondered about this vine for some time!
Here's the bit I like;
"Among the Mixe, a dosage consists of twenty-six
seeds. The seeds should be ground by a ten- to
fifteen-year-old virgin and mixed with water;
otherwise, the seeds will not "speak" (Lipp 1991,
190*)"Respect,

Irie,
Woof, you're welcome to drop by anytime Bro.
Got round to the Mucuna Pruriens beans, known locally as "Kafe Djab".......hehe
Roasted them till they popped, then let them cool & peel off shells.
Back into the pan for a final roast.
When ground it made a light brown nutty smelling powder, looking like an instant coffee!
Brewed a couple of large pinches per cup of coffee beans.
Kinda tasted like the dandilion coffees I use to drink, back in the day....
Not got the kick of the "Ti kafé mawon"!!!
I guess the next one to try out will be "Kafé zèpyant", Senna occidentalis.......
I think I saw a bag of seeds somewhere????

psychotria viridis identification
in Plant Identification (non-cactus)
Posted · Edited by Zaka
Irie,
So I have recently come across a small leaf variety of P.Viridis.
It was growing in a clay pipe pot and totally root bound.
I had them crack the pipe and add soil, as it was clearly suffering and had started looking bonsai.
I have no idea how the plant reach in this private garden as the plant is not native to here.
It may have been the original plantation owner who apparently collected many rare plants from around the world.
So I guess I should pop back down the road a get a few cuttings, for preservation purposes....

Z
