  1. whilst in melbourne i picked up a nice big long spined pachanoi that had a robust growth form that i admire in columnar cacti. I got it from cactus garage who is supplied by paradisia.

I cut off the main grow tip and brought it back with me to add to the collection, which was at this stage rather decent.

Upon returning home i potted it up, treated everythign with white oil and mancozeb plus for precaution and headed up north.

Upon returning home some 3 weeks later i found my entire collection devestated with the weeping black scale, or the dreaded black death as torsten has called it.

I could only think of that pedro as the source as when i left everything was fine and when i returned it was absolutely covered in the black scale as was everythign else...However it may have originated from within a plant i had had for sometime aswell.

My collection went from some 50-60 specimens to around 10 that remained disease free.

Is there anything i can do to save my collection? ive tried white oil, mancozeb plus and triforine(sp) the rose fungicide/pesticide...

    any ideas?

My garden is definately not organic, however anything i intend for consumption is always grown organically..

    cheers

  4. heya all, its finally got a home and a framework :)

The newcastle, central coast and hunter valley A.F.S.R operations will occurr simultaneously with the plant trades and local activities of the 'ethnobots' group. All proceeds will assist maintaining a healthy seedbank, assist the operation of A.F.S.R on a national basis, and assist the local operations of the ethnobots...

Each request for seeds will be subject to a 1$ donation, depending on contextual factors of availability and quantity, each order will contain an amount of seeds specific to the amount in the seedbank at the time of request. For the first little while it is requested that a self addressed stamped envelope is also sent along with the one dollar donation until the first 70 orders are sent out. After this the 'free' part will kick in and all seeds will be sent with the 1$used on a letter and stamp.

The list of seeds and plants available will be updated periodically, and anyone in the local region wishing to access the seedbank is encouraged to do so by logging on to the ethnobots mailing list at:

    http://www.ethnobotanica.org/newcastle/index.html

All other operations can be co ordinated through pm's here or at s.a.b, with either myself or neurotichaosis.

I have spent 70$ at sab to ensure some new interesting seeds are available, as ive only had one donation to the seedbank so far (thanx vfx). I will also make some interesting goodies available to anyone who feels they can assist by donation of seeds or resources to the cause.

peace, nows the time to start thinking about what to germinate this season.

All seed, spore and plant donations welcome:

  5. ok peeps, we are trying to finalise this present and i need to sort out a few inconsistencies in regards to donations... the following is a list of people who have so far donated money, with one name ommitted.. The name ommitted was the first person who donated, on the 7th of june...

if this person could contact me that would be great.

Also, big ups to Vfx who is chasing up the mighty fine pressie as we speak, good on ya champion!

If anyone else would like to contribute, it would take a little bit of stress off a couple of key contributors, and if anyone thinks they have contributed and havent been acknowledged, or would like to honour their original pledge, please contact me asap as im keen to get this sorted...

peace, and sorry the process has taken so long

    contributors as of 21 june:

  7. sorry for the cross post guys... thought id cover all bases..

    hey all,

as some of u may already know, and as a lot of you probably dont...

'Little eccles' is just about to, or quite possibly already (?????), enter the life of eccles and his partner and their respective families..

As an extension of this idea of 'family' and community, and out of respect and recognition for all that eccles has given us, (and i dont really think i need to communicate just how valuable E.A.net is to all of us), we have decided to get together and donate towards a present for the 'eccles family' , and mark the entrance into our community of this alchemist to be..

We- (re-shroomEd, visualfx and myself), have sorted out a great pressie to mark this magickal event, and all we need is the rest of the community to come together and help out with donations... We aren't too far off the mark between the three of us but it would be great if a couple more of you guys could chip in with some humble donations to make the process easier and quicker...

any interested parties can pm any of the above mentioned parties...

    peace,

and congrats eccles, aint life magickal

  8. And it also goes to show how egos and grudges dont mix with ethnobotany... If the ethnobotany community is to push human evolution forward in the way it has shown it can, things like this need to be overcome quickly. We are humans yes, but perhaps some of us need to transcend the purely human phenomena that has held others back..

push the envelope guys, get over grudges and shit fights, and dont take things so bloody seriously.

We are all adults after all, and one would think that we are some of the more intellectual and morally wholesome adults around. Act on it :)

    peace love and understanding

(edit: this remark is not addressed or intended for anyone in particular, or even members of S.A.B, just a comment based on ongoing observations of ongoing fueds throught the eb scene... cant we all just get along?)

  9. As a new comer to the crew and local scene Dazd just mentioned, i would like to add some of my own perspectives/insights.

When i first went to an outdoor event back in 2000 it was more of a rave then a doof, and for me (a 16yr old struggling to realise who i was) it was very much about the drugs not the dancing or music.

As i have grown up and matured/evolved a little more as a person i have started going to proper psy/bush doofs and also started getting more out of them.

The first really 'big' doof was very insightful in regards to how much effort goes into setting up the party, and also an insight into the varying motives and attitudes of organisers. Whilst it is hard not to be idealistic in this situation, i see dazd' comments above about drugs and the extremes of drug use in the doof scene as highly relevant to the future of these parties in australia and perhaps the world as a whole.

Whilst the presence, availability and freedom of drugs at these parties has much to do with their notoriety and also perhaps some of the large turn outs, it is also the factor that in my opinion under-rides their integrity and success on a spiritual/psychic/mystic level..

As has already been said, it is up to the individual as to how he/she interacts with the energy of a party, and what he or she wishes to get out of it. As someone who has had some pretty special experiences at these parties, and also witnessed some pretty messed up people, i believe that it is time for some guidelines/boundaries to be established.

It seems that the possibility of 'hive mind' at a doof is quite probable, and the movement en masse of the people on the dance floor to the tribal based music is definately reminiscent of ancient cultures and trance like states/gnosis.

However, i believe that if these aspects of the scene are to be further developed then their needs to be an erradication of the synthetic chemicals such as ice, ghb, cocaine and whatever other crap is being sold in pills..

I do feel that pure mdma offers some 'sacrament' qualities, however i would see more organic entheogens as being more conducive of a mystical experience.

At the last party i was introducing a unch of close friends to the scene and decided to be the 'sitter' for the duration of the night. I danced harder and longer then i had ever before and thoroughly enjoyed the night, not to mention being aware of somekind of 'hitch hiking' phenomena that left me feeling quite euphoric and trippy.

If ever i was to put on a party (which we would love to do sometime in the future) i would have a private party whereby everyone invited is known to be on relatively the same level in regards to the REAL DOOF EXPERIENCE, and part of the cost of entrance would cover a range of different entheogens which would be made freely available to all participants at the beginning and mid party to discourage the use of any synthetics and encourage the 'communal experience'...

For me doof is about an awareness of the earth and universes inherent heart beat, and a manifestation of the tribal awareness and natural connection to animism that humanity is so quickly becomming detatched from...

    peace.

  10. i have been told to go for a good long walk along the river... im not sure what species is there, but i have heard rumours.. please let me know

    peace

  11. actually i know a trippy fella from out that way who claims to know of some spots... If he doesnt then im sure some of the people he knows would..

but i will get in touch with him rather then give u his details just incase he is totally clueless and makes me out to be a fool

  12. I was told by a local bushfood specialist/mycologist/landcarer who has an excellant knowledge of the bio-region that whilst D.viscosa was used by aboriginals all over the place, it was renowned to be of differring potencies in specific areas and also at specific times of the year.. He wouldnt even tell us the botanical name of the plant for about 3 or 4 months, and is always walking around chewing its leaves whilst he works..

When we first started chewing the leaves with him we found little if any effects, however the more we chewed and the more we concentrated the more we began to notice its 'stimulating effects' with enhanced alertness and clarity of perception becomming more pronounced the more we chewed. Whilst i wouldnt describe it as a 'high', i would still say that it is definately active, as i am yet to chew anymore then 10-12 leaves in any sitting.

When he eventually gave in and told us the name of the plant, he also alerted us to a huge population out towards the western edge of the hunter valley in a state park close to scone and muswellbrook.

On subsequent trips to this state park we have observed thousands of plants that inhabit not only the state park, but the roads into the Barrington State Forest as well.

If u would like i can collect numerous samples from 3 different sites i know of and send them up for analysis?

  13. i can vouch for somekind of alkaloid content in D.viscosa having done multiple bio assays over the past couple of months.. From my source:

'their are severel varients of this species, of them, the one local to ..... in nsw is the most potent.. It has an effect similiar to but nowhere near as intense as coca in terms of anelgesia and stimulation, a brew can be made from its leaf and stem matter for higher doses or u can chew the leaves if the taste isnt too astringent'
