    Importation of Coca Leaf Tea

Two things: If it's illegal as either a carrier or as specifically listed botanical item it's still a risk that you don't really want to be on the losing side of. second, if they're overlooking it and letting some in (please go back to my first point) Either way, their looking the other way will stop when people start ordering it and more comes into the country and especially if they start posting discussions in drug forums. Double especially if it's being mentioned as being used in illegal extractions to create an addictive substance. That completely crosses the line from a item from someone ordering innocently to someone with knowledge performing illegal activities.

    trichocereus cuzcoensis

It's about 5 am here in the states so I'm both a bit tired and rusty. Since I've been gone from the forums around here for a few years things have certainly developed Yes, I think it's safe to say that you snow covered plants are safe to be called Cuzonoid. I've got "KK242" seed from 96 and a second batch from 98 both sourced from OTJ. The 96 batch came up what we are calling "cuzoensis" with some variations between individuals MS Smith ID a few at the time as what he then called the classic KK242. The 98 seed was all over the place T/E Bridg, Peru, and "?" Bridgoids I'll get some images up of the collection if anyone is interested I'm sure that I've got some nice ones in there but I'm most upset by the decade plus of care I've put into these things only to hear that on average some are likely to be less then what was hoped. Here's some picts of the lot when they were younger (you may have seen some of them them before) This one mike ID as T. Cuzo 5 years ago. looks a lot like by first and second plant image.

Juuls x T Pan. Seed pod Burst

Good to see that everyone is still around too gerbil it's been quite some time! Thanks for the nod. I'm really happy about the fruits I've gotten this year some of the sprites from 2 years ago and developing a nice spiral growth pattern Haven't seen that before we'll see what happens with time if it's a mature trait.
  4. Howdy, it's been awhile As some of you may remember, I was working on trying to get some controlled crosses. Well, I finally got the Juuls Giant and the T. Pachanoi to flower and sync with one another close enough for the pollen to be viable for crossings It only took half a decade to get both clones to bear fruit and take each others pollen. Here's a image of a seed pod bursting the day before a rainstorm hit How they can have mature fruits for months and sync it up is a nice question But it seems clear that it's intended to have the seeds wash out and settle in a nice germination spot. (the pulp loses it's structure quickly with water and slight agitation) Please forgive the cobwebs.. I've been too busy to properly dust ;)

    Bouncing Bear Botanicals Raided

Well there's some good coming out of this I've seen some threads on different forums that tend to have a large number of bouncing bear customers They're now going on about figuring out how to cultivate plants. Some are insistent that cacti can only grow from cuttings and that viridis are limited to only the amazon. Many are complaining that they can't find anyone the net selling live plants or seeds. Goes to show the kinds of people that patronized BB, and their complete dependence upon dried and prepared materials. This all goes hand in hand with their non discrete methods of marketing such as... A Facebook fan page for their outlet store Second item of note: The charges against Jonathan Sloan are State and not Federal charges .pdf link. Third: The Federal DEA is NOT heading up the investigation it's the FDA (food and drug admin.) Quite odd.

Juuls x T Pan. Seed pod Burst

I think that the gist of my point was that yes they do split There's not many images of them doing so on the web that I've seen and lastly It does seemed to be timed by bursting a day before rainfall I'm getting a nice trend here for those fruits that hold on and take their time.

Juuls x T Pan. Seed pod Burst

Yes and Yes. I haven't seen anyone else ever show the fruit bursting like that usually people are harvesting them and cutting them up to get at the seeds I wanted to let it run a full cycle and let me know when she's ready to deliver. ;) I'm working on a side project to develop something nice via controlled crossings I figure I've got 15 more years of playing around with these before getting some nice results.

    Scale...

If I can add my 2¢ Try brushing with a old toothbrush and use a water hose to spray them off I wouldn't use any oil based insecticides as it'll damage the plant Best to move the infected out of the way and work them over once the first week twice the second and a follow up on the third. The key is to interrupt their life cycle with keeping the hatchling "crawlers" from maturing while removing the adults Infections can be spread via infected plants direct contact or via insect transport. They can be controlled if the host plant is well taken care of

Wow, it must be really late for me to make an error like that. Sorry.... not the way to step back into a room eh? Trichocereus Pachanoi or should I say Echinopsis Pachanoi nowdays?

  12. If you're in the northern part of the planet and IF you've got a few trichs that need pollen for the crossing I've just collected some nice golden q-tips of Juuls Giant pollen sorry guy's I wish there was another way but sending mail to aus has usually taken so long, I've never heard of any pollen being viable. I'm willing to try sending it overseas, but rather have someone within overnight range get it so that it can be as viable as possible and then have the resulting seeds spread in the mail Let's make some cacti luv

    Endangered Wild Lophs

According to J. Otts pharmacotheon The Native American Church gets peyote at a cut rate price from the harvesters and refuse to switch to any of the other mescaline containing cacti. The cacti is highly endangered over it's northern range The USA government refuses to listen to the scientific community and take appropriate action to protect it due to politics and the WoD. Improper harvesting, "Development" and greater access to locals (Dirt Bikes and ATV's) in addition to those after the drug bragging rights are pushing this right into extinction. I really wish that as a culture, people would wake up to the idea that they shouldn't be hunting this plant in the wild but cultivating it (where legal to do so) I bet that the vast majority of those random users that are eating the plant aren't even taking the time to tease out any seeds that may be trapped by the cacti. It's a sad situation.

    Black Rot and Mancozeb

I remember reading the name of the actual fungus a couple of years ago or fungal/bacterial complex that infects the plants. in one of the forums... God I wish I had preserved some of those old threads. here's some info; http://ag.arizona.edu/gardening/news/azdai...pear_spots.html the fungal spores we're on any of my seeds that I germinated. and well, I've never had a case of this black spot attack any of my plants until I had a few trades some into my collection a few years back that we're all suffering with every break in the skin from being jabbed with a spine turning into a dark boil. fortunately, with my climate, everything is very controllable and I feel that it eventually works itself out of the system. bright light & moving dry air - may be the best preventative here. maybe some exposure to UV might help a bit?

    Bridgesii seedlings

Fungus Gnats are the devils own creation. I agree with "A" and the sandwich box method but I've diverge from his example by mentioning that I keep my seedlings locked up with the lid to keep the humidity high but I also lift it at least twice a day for air exchanges. This will keep out fungus gnats. if you have to drill holes for (for whatever reason) that's fine, just on the bottoms fungus gnats cannot lay their eggs upwards very well, if at all. I've lost many a rare seedling when I was starting out some 15 years ago... due to gnats .... you learn quick. never use fungicides or poisons... (including soap and other stuff) if you can help it... it's always a ounce of prevention that pays off. too many times the "cure" will kill your tender seedlings. heheh, yeah Archaea, I totally have done that... spilling and screaming over a spilled pot. bests!
  18. You're absolutely correct! We mustn't be sexist. We need a dildo come shot for the ladies too. preferably one with large breasts that giggle -so that it's clear it's a "she" and not any type of Blue Light homo-anal-chemo-erotica postings. It should also be a real orgasm emoticon and not one of those fake ones that I keep hearing about on other boards... Oh and BTW... that's a nice cacti!

    Are Tom Juul's Giants psychoactive?

yeah that looks like a TJJ. when I first got my cuttings it looked VERY MUCH like a T. Pan but that was because it was still a developing pup / branch. She came along nicely with time and into her own features. enjoy

    Should I cut this?

First thing I do not believe this to be a Juuls Giant. It's has every appearance of a T. pan. I believe that your ID may be affected by the plant being a 4 ribbed cutting that reconfigured itself into a 5 or 6 star rib configuration. making itself look fatter at it's base, over the "waxyness" that both cacti have. The thinning is caused by low light levels. there is no way to correct this the best thing to do for appearances sake is to trim the plant (below) assuming that the new home will provide more light than the retailer. you can let all 3 cuts heal over and replant all if you like The plant will regrow from the potted base first the tip will be second and the middle part will the be last to recover. IME, you should set all 3 upright for best results. Since you're in the southern part of this little blue ball I would think about leaving it alone for now and let it grow a bit make your cuttings in the fall and let them over winter as such before potting in the early sprint and letting them fully establish a root system. you may even get enough new growth to justify a fourth cut around where that tip damage is and replant that as the new base tip for another clone. I had two large cuttings spend two years in the corner of a bedroom before I planted them (elongated). two years after that, they did break and fall from a large gust of wind and the sway of a top heavy plant. No matter, all the resulting sections are repupping again both dry root and in pots. I'm mentioning this because it's all really cosmetic and how you wish for your plants to appear.

    peyote eating caterpillar

I believe that this was also referenced in one of Ott's books It's likely to be one of the native american snails vs the invasive french snails that were imported into the americas to satisfy french ex patriots [belch]. Secondly, "The Worm" or mescal worm is not a worm but a caterpillar or grub there's always been a bit of confusion rising from mescal bean (red bean cult/ Sophora Secundiflora), mescal buttons (peyote) and Mescal (distilled drink). This was the result of pre turn of the century (victorian) over generalization and sloppy work on part of the english speaking american researchers and officials. further re-enforced in modern times by the proper name of Mescaline for the main active in Peyote. (ref source. "Peyote Religion" by Omer C Stewart) The wiki entry sates that proper Tequila is not allowed to contain the insects (Nor should it have any to begin with IMHO). "Mescal" denotes the distilled drink although it may be produced by the same succulent agave species. Mescal is generally "cheap" and both the reasons for the denoting strength are accurate as well as a modern gimic for sales. lastly the problem with your cacti is with a snail or slug it may return in a few days time, best to lay down some bait vs them eating holes into your plant. check under the pot in the drain holes for them to hiding in.

    Are these safe to plant?

How? Given time the plant will produce roots on it's own. soil and water is not required. I thought I explained it a bit.... guess not. simply, take your cutting after it's healed up a bit and place it upright against a wall I tend to keep mine indoors in a well lit area. where they can stay for quite a extended time dry roots will develop at the bottom of the plant granted a dry rooted plant will not have a extensive network of fine roots emerging but main "tap roots" that are sturdy -perhaps a few inches long and hardened to air exposure These will rapidly develop when placed into soil. what's the advantage? well you have a well healed plant that hasn't been sitting in a pot having to fight off all sorts of nasties for months on end -taking up space.. (rot?) but instead, it's "ready to go" processing food and water within a week of planting
  25. Flip

    Oh NO

re: sandwich box method keep it humid inside and allow for some air exchange every few days. after the initial germination and "fuzzy" cotton like root hairs have given way to the main tap root. you can lower the humidity a bit and allow for more frequent air changes. If the seedlings root hairs are damaged at this stage root development will be seriously hampered... leave them alone do not try to upright your plant. If there's a seed case "locked" on top your plant use a eye dropper and wet the case (gently) and increase humidity. the plant should rid itself of it without additional aid within a few days. seedlings can be up righted by gently nudging soil around the base I've used a sharpened tip of a pencil to gently push a small wedge of support over a few days time most can be standing tall with a little help. As long as your water content isn't too high you can keep this going for months if you develop a mold or other contamination you should allow for some evaporation as your first line of defense. never have your soil be "wet" moist is perfect. imo, over watering and "fiddling with the plants" are the greatest source of failure with inexperienced germinators after a months time (depending) you can start hardening the plants by leaving the unsealed lid "on" the box and rotating it 20-45º for air transfer. and a slow adaption for dryer air as well as less filtered light exposure you should be in good shape in a few months... green thumbs.
