    Trich Germination: Need Advice

Zelly, that is incredible list. I'd love to get my hands on some of those seeds some time in the future. EG - I've also heard from multiple humans that the seeds are viable and I did actually have one successful container and every single seed germinated. I preferred not to state the seed supplier as I'm pretty new to growing from seed and don't think my inexperience should automatically be blamed on the seed supplier.
  2. Thanks for posting, Mesq. I'm really enjoying your music on this lazy Sunday afternoon. Good luck with the competition :D
  3. I've heard the Brisbane Catchment Network does some good things (http://www.brisbanecatchments.net.au/), Vual. They have regular weekend working bees with a focus on planting native trees, weeding and maintaining flora in the Brisbane catchment areas.

    Trich Germination: Need Advice

Yikes, sorry for the late reply. I've been trying to upload photos of my set-up but I can't find a working usb cable. Thanks for all your advice and encouragement! Slice & getfix - I'm loving your set-ups.. mine is very hobo-style and kind of embarrassing. I'd like to create a high-tech grow chamber in the future - once I have a couple of successful trials under my belt. EG - The seeds are a mix of trich hybrids and some might be up to a year old. I'm not telling you who the supplier is but I'm pretty sure they are reputable. I think you guys are probably right about the high temperatures. I think might try relocating them to the bathroom as all my other rooms are ridiculously boiling in this hot qld summer. I'm not sure setting up outside is an option, also due to the summer heat. Thanks for your offer, Getafix I've still got a decent supply of seed left, but if these fail, I'd love to take you up on your offer. I'll start a new batch on the weekend using everyone's advice and let you guys know how I go.
  5. The specimen below was grown from cutting from a cactus I acquired about two or three years ago from a seller on SAB. I honestly can't remember what these were being sold as. I had always thought it was super pedro, but now I'm thinking it could be the Eileen. Could anybody help me out?? The more I look at it, the more I'm certain its not a pachanoi. The below photo is of the specimen's baby pup

BRISBANE MEET THIS SUNDAY (Oct 14th)

I'm coming! Just to emphasize gtarman's original words to newcomers - don't be shy or feel like you'll be an outsider. I'll see you guys tomorrow..
  10. Today, I began life for twenty-five pachanoi seeds. Using Rev's takeaway container tek, osmocote cacti soil and no antifugals, I'm hoping to see signs of life in the next couple of weeks. I'm pretty excited - its the first time I've grown cacti from seed.

    Id for unknown tricho

They currently reside at another person's house, so they don't get much care. I only visit them once every 3 or 4 months and I haven't feed them any fertilizer for a years or two. I will have to start taking better care of them in the future, i think. Thanks for all the ID comments - I guess I'll just have to wait until it gets a bit older and thicker so I can see how the spines are forming.

Tips on impressing a hot date! haha

I've got some more practical advice for your date. Wear clothes that you feel comfortable in - not really daggy ones, but clothes that make you feel like you like you're cool and help you to feel confident. If you drink, have a beer to relax your nerves and ease the tension. Also, when the girl comes, if you like a particular clothing item she's wearing or if you like the way she's styled her hair, let her know. There's nothing people like more than an honest compliment. If this girl is coming to your place, you've half way to a new friendship and hopefully a new relationship. She already trusts you and she is probably is looking forward to your company. Good luck

    Id for unknown tricho

Wow, thanks for the interest. Spacemonk is correct - this plant is very shaded and receives very little water and has had a few cuttings taken off it in the last two years. Sorry about the photo clarity - I'm not a very skilled photographer. I've attached a few additional photos of older growth - hopefully these will help a little.

    Ayahuasca retreats in Peru

I spent the majority of my time in a private cabin either furiously writing or laying in a lucid dream type state. I was only interrupted by Percy's father when he was bringing more tea, food and supplies. There were discussions planned in the general hut but you weren't required to attend. So no, definitely no expectations to be actively involved in spiritual discussions or even the ceremonies. You could also leave the compound whenever you wished. From memory, the only expectation was that you didn't use any other mind altering substances. Regarding Percy's language, I'm almost certain he spoke Spanish to his translator. His translator, Carlos, was Mexican and I'm pretty sure he could only speak Spanish and English. I definitely recommend learning as much Spanish as you can before you go to South America. Unlike other countries I've visited, I found that almost no locals spoke English.. it got pretty lonely at times. Fenris, did you ever hear about the jaguar that was roaming around the cabins?? Maybe that's why I spent so much time in the cabin, haha.

    Ayahuasca retreats in Peru

I went to Iquitos a few years ago and visited the DAS ayahuasca healing center (http://www.ayahuasca-healing-das.org/) for about a week. I would recommend them - the surroundings are beautiful and isolated. I did have some trouble connecting with the Currando, but I think it was mostly the language barrier. He had trainee helping him with translating, and he was extremely accommodating and kind. It was an amazing experience and I wish I'd planned to stay for a month as well. I think there is a variety of different retreats around Iquitos and you should be able to find them easily when you're there. I do remember hearing about a few places offering one-off ceremonies. Maybe if you visited a few different ones, you'd find a teacher and location you really connect with.

    brisbane meet 15 september

Thanks to everyone for coming out to the last meet - was great to reconnect again. Bigred - Thanks for helping me start the car. It turned out that my alternator was almost dead at that point, so I didn't get to far! I should be free for the next meet and I'll try to bring some homemade haloumi. I'll also put an offer out for anybody needing a lift on the east side of Brisbane

    Faking real estate references..?

I was faced with a similar issue recently when I was trying to find a new place to live. Previously, I had been living in a sharehouse and I wasn't listed as a leaser or a sub-leaser. Basically, the real estate had no idea I was living on the property. I still ended up using this sharehouse real estate as a reference and still managed to secure a place after a few weeks of searching. Though, I'm 99% sure these new real estate agents didn't check any of my references. I did get my applications knocked back a few times and to get around this I figured I could pretend I'd been overseas and use an earlier real estate agent reference. This might not be a possibility for you if you've been living in that house for years and years. You could attach a note to the application to explain why you might not receive an entirely positive reference for your current real estate. It also might be an idea to call your real estate and ask what sort of reference they would give you - maybe it won't be as bad as you imagine. At the end of the day, its more important to get as many applications in as possible to improve your chances. Join one of the larger realestate websites, go to open house inspections and start pumping out those applications. Don't bother with LJ Hooker if you're in a hurry - they charge $100 deposit for application submission.

Wow, thanks for a great Saturday everyone It was an honour to be surrounded by so many intelligent and knowledgeable folk. It's given me inspiration to try do some planting in the tiny space I've been allocated outside my unit – with the help of planter bags. ThunderIdeal – was a pleasure to finally meet you :D

Sounds great, gtarman. Looking forward to meeting everybody tomorrow It's been awhile since I've been to one of these.
  24. I never had the honour of meeting Penny in real life, but was fortunate enough to have a few chats with her on IRC. She was a kind, intelligent woman and her warmth made me feel welcome in the chat room. My thoughts and condolences go out to her family.
