    3rd annual NSW Camp.

Looking forward to it already! Would prefer long weekend aswell, but I'm sure I'll be there regardless one way or another... Just realised I haven't seen most (all?) of you since last years camp... Clearly getting old for it to slide by so quickly!
  3. http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2009/10/...cent-mushrooms/ (Images within link above) Seven new glowing mushroom species have been discovered in Belize, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Japan, Malaysia and Puerto Rico. Four of the species are completely new to scientists, and three previously known species were discovered to be luminescent. All seven species, as well as the majority of the 64 previously known species of luminescent mushrooms, are from the Mycena family. “What interests us is that within Mycena, the luminescent species come from 16 different lineages, which suggests that luminescence evolved at a single point and some species later lost the ability to glow,” said biologist Dennis Desjardin of San Francisco State University, lead author of the study published Monday in the journal Mycologia. The new discoveries might help scientists understand when, how and why mushrooms evolved the ability to glow. Desjardin suspects that luminescence might attract nocturnal animals, which would then help the mushrooms spread their spores.
  4. So I was fortunate enough to be given a length of Pach from a forum member. It's a bit old and dryer than it would like to be, but I'm sure it will come good with a little love. It's about 1m long. I'm not sure what I'm best to do with it, I mean get in in the ground of course, but should I lay it down just under the soil in the hope it will send pups up? Just sit it on the ground? Chop it up and plant them? I've clearly no idea and would love some advice please!
  5. Nice man, might be best for me to get them in dirt soon and let them fend for themselves a little then... it's what they do best after all...

^ I'm not sure it's wise/helpful to be quite so frank about your haul... but well done all the same
  9. ^ Cool, thanks for the advice guys. I decided to cut into 2 in the end and they are drying up a bit. Do they need to callus or just dry on the cut ends? I'm just a bit unsure as to how long I should leave them before they go in the ground because the length was quite dry originally. Also in terms of watering new cuts going into pots/ground like this, can I get a little advice on frequency please? (Again bearing in mind they're on the dry side if that makes a difference... looks like they need to puff up a bit if that makes sense). Thanks again!
  10. ^ In time Thanks Alice. OK so any advice where I should be buying/getting decent cactus mix?
  11. Cool thanks blowing. I guess if it gets me more pups it's probably better to cut her up then! So once cut up and left to callus, how deep in the soil should I be planting each section? Just under the soil or poking out a little? How frequently should I be watering etc? Thanks.

    Essential camping food.

A decent wok can be bought for $10 and is a great universal cooking implement... right on the coals, a burner or camp stove. Can use it as a billy, pan, deep fry, smoker, even as a wok!

Such a diverse range of people and knowledge, it's awesome how well we all get along. Waiting another full year seems far too far away! This guy's expression may mean different things to different people...

Everyone will need to get at least one bag of wood if we don't have a chainsaw. Last time we made multiple trips for more firewood because we went through it so quickly (damn cold kiddies!!!)

Totally agree. This doesn't need to go to anyone other than the people who have indicated in this thread that they are coming along.

Thought we should sort a few things out since the camp is getting closer... Remember there is no mobile reception where we camped last time so it's probably best we all know what's going on ahead of time. In case anyone didn't come last time or missed it in the thread - there is no water where we're heading, so bring more than what you need. Last time the Sydney convoy left much later than planned meaning we were setting up tents in the dark which isn't ideal. A few pages ago it was suggested we should meet around lunch time at the g-spot from last camp and check out/discuss where to setup camp from there, which I think sounds like a good plan. So what time will we consider 'lunchtime'? Say about 1pm? Are we still planning to camp in the same general area? I just want to make sure we have enough light to get setup properly. Hilbilly's bringing a chainsaw which is awesome, so do we think there's a need to buy bags of firewood like last time? I think we burned through the wood we had last time far quicker than any of us expected... Really looking forward to it, haven't seen some of you since last year!

Nice one Hillbilly, should be set with that! Good to hear you're up for another night WT, I was in a camping store yesterday and saw a camp toilet I considered buying for you. I figured that was the real reason you had to leave the next day... ;)
