    Melbourne Bushwalk

    Thanks for the book recomendation. I'll see if I can find it a bookstore and have a flick though it. Wasnt sherbrooke, good guess though, I was in the dandies, so beautiful all though there. I was spending most of my time staring at the ground but everywhere you look its just stunning. Thanks for all the ID attempts. I have no idea how you can even remember that many names let alone put them to faces.

    Melbourne Bushwalk

    Hey guys. I went for a nice walk around a local national park yesterday and spotted lots of interesting fungi. Would be nice to have an ID on them but I'm mostly posting to share the photos. Hope you enjoy. #1. #2. #3. #4. #5. #6. #7. #8. #9. #10. #11. #12. I was surprised to find so many different types of fungi around. In one area I was seeing a different mushroom every two or three meters, was kind of exiting seeing so much variety. I saw heaps mushrooms more than I took photos of, plenty of lbm's and lwm's all over the place. There were heaps of #3 around, always catching my eye because of their similar appearance to subs. I think maybe its not quite cold enough for them yet, at least where I was. I know its hard to ID from photos alone and some of these aren't very detailed but I'm interested to hear peoples opinions. Can someone recommend a good book or website for identifying the local edibles?

    Help a noob.

    I have heard that if you use brown rice flour PF-tek style you can get away with boiling/steaming without pressure. Theres many succsess stories from people who use a large stock pot with the lid on to sterilize BRF cakes. A pressure cooker is definatly required if you plan on doing grains. Like poo said you want the wide mouth jars Kerr 250ml Wide Mouth Can or Freeze Preserving Jar Redback has them for $34.95 per dozen but they are out of stock at the moment.     I've had good dealings with Accolent - the ebay vendor The Alchemist posted. Very easy to deal with, fast email replies and well packaged herbs delivered quickly. Good range and prices too, I think they have everything you're after, not sure about the hyssop.

    MELBOURNE FINDS !!!!

    Congrats on the finds guys. Went for a good long walk with a mate on sunday and found an absolute crap load of Leratiomyces ceres (Stropharia aurantiaca) growing in wood chip beds and lots of other mushrooms near by that we couldnt ID, around 8 different species, no actives. Saw a heap more subs today where I found the first lot. I'd recomend anyone planning to have a look in the next week to try heading east or south east as there has been about twice as much rain out that way. Check out this rainfall map from BOM.     MELBOURNE FINDS !!!!

    Walked around some local spots today, saw a couple of fresh non-actives and some subs that looked to be quite old. Only a very small patch (6 mushies) in a spot that isnt affected my the weather so much, usually has very high humidity regardless. Theres a report over at the shroomery that melbourne is firing, someone found 200g wet. Should be popping up everywhere soon.

    Stitches, whats the the cactus in the last two photos, is it a monstrose or crested ariocarpus? looks very cool, never seen anything like it. Nice photos everyone.

    Scale on Cactus

    Hunab Hu, that Chemspray Antiscale is a white oil with an added organophosphate insectiside. I'd try using straight white oil before spraying OP's around. Maldison is probably one of the safest OP's to use but its still toxic to some extent. sethomopod, if you have other cacti that aren't infected with the scale it would be a good idea to isolate the infected plants or move them away a bit so it doesnt spread.
