i'm a big fan. would recommend checking out some of the rest of that scene's podcasts. Duncan Trussel Family Hour, Ari Schaffir's Skeptic Tank and most the stuff on Deathsquad. Podcasts are a fascinating format. Conversations are long and intense so you can really get to see how someone thinks which is fascinating and beneficial when devloping the way that you want to think.

sup all been interested in starting to collect some edible mushrooms. have found a lot of species in pine plantations and would like to try eating some but finding it hard to find some solid information like just a list of edible mushrooms. did some forum searching and going to try some slippery jacks and hopefully porcini from adelaide hills. have heard there are milk caps around but not sure what type of subspecies to look for in SA. any other types of mushrooms to try? keen to try strange tasting weird ones as long as they aren't deadly. any other relevant info on the subject would be great. cheers

yep, that's the one. awesome. was curious about that but had no idea how to search for it. cheers.

awesome. thanks heaps tripsis, great list. we found one that looked similar to the Laccocephalum mylittae picture on this page. http://healing-mushrooms.net/archives/laccocephalum-mylittae.html was round and black but instead of the white flesh like the one in that pic it was dark purple/black and had ripple patterns in white. similar species perhaps? wish i had pic but phone was out of juice. cheers again.

okay found a few papers from the journal of ethnopharmacology one article was on Uncaria rhynchophylla reville mentioned it in 2002 according to search engine http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/inde...a+rhynchophylla anyways this paper mentioned MAO-B inhibition. and apprently the plant grows from seed. so has anyone tracked it down? its in chinese medicine. actually sounds like a very good medicinal plant to have reading the article. (i can email the article to peeps interested) so yeah, anyone chased this one down, doing anything with it? another paper talked about MAOB inhibition in tumeric (Curcuma longa) they made polar extracts, gave em to mice and "The effects of the extracts at the dose of 560 mg/kg were more potent than that of reference antidepressant fluoxetine." if that means anything to anyone so yeah - anyone getting any MAOI love from these plants? edit: apparently Uncaria rhynchophylla is also called Gambir Vine or Gou Teng. might be able to purchase dried herbs but cant find seeds etc yet say - wasnt a forum member here living in china at the moment? surely thats where we will get seeds if anywhere 2nd edit: also called cats claw apparently here is somethign from a chinese medicine site "Cat’s Claw General Information Cat's Claw (Gambir) is a woody, climbing shrub native to China and other parts of southeast Asia. Most of the stem branches have hook-like appendages, which the plant uses to attach itself to a surface. The indigenous people of Peru use Cat’s Claw stems as a treatment for cancer, diabetes, ulcers, arthritis, infections, and as an aid in recovery from childbirth. It is also used as a contraceptive. Samento is the rare form of Cat's Claw, only it is different in that it is 1000 times stronger in strengthening the immune system. Even though scientific studies offer no conclusive evidence as to this plant's healing benefits, increased awareness has prompted the cultivation of Cat’s Claw, which is now a major source of revenue for the Ashaninka Indian tribe of Peru." i really want one of these now

Making a documentary - Last Tibetan Shamans of Nepal
Hagakure replied to Tripitaka's topic in Chill Space
sounds awesome. how are you going to approach it in regards to yourself or westerners on camera? those peyote and iboga documentaries were quite good IMHO as the main white dude in each approached the people in a respectful manner and also were interesting enough to add to the story themselves. the alternative is to always be behind the camera and interview them and get the subtitles put on later which can also be very good and feel more like you are stepping into their world rather than watching someone else step into their world. -
Arsenic-munching bacteria found'
Hagakure replied to devance's topic in Sustainable Technologies & Ethical Living
might be helpful if they collect all the arsenic into their cells. then you could have the stuff growing in contaminated water or whatever than scoop the cells and junk em. -
Does Qi (Chi) energy exist?
Hagakure replied to cycle's topic in Creativity, Spirituality & Philosophy
oh yeah and cycle - i got a dvd of chi gong movements. is crazy, after doing some of these exercises you hold your hands together palm facing and its like you have two magnets pushing themselves away from each other. feels crazy and is meant to be the feeling of chi moving through you. more than the novelty though the exercises are meant to be very good for you. now if only i actually kept at some of this stuff instead of spending so much time in front of computer screen... -
Does Qi (Chi) energy exist?
Hagakure replied to cycle's topic in Creativity, Spirituality & Philosophy
depends on your definition of chi. some translations you can read like breath or air. opening up chi pathways is oxygenating your body. but its much more than this as well. can mean the enrgy that exists in everything as well. im saying yes to the question cause whatever energies that fit the description that do exist, do exist, therefore at least some types of chi exist. perhaps not the kung fu chi blasts in cartoons but hey, you cant have it all. -

What happens when you die?
Hagakure replied to Yawning Man's topic in Creativity, Spirituality & Philosophy
reminds me of a joke "I want to die peacefully in my sleep just like my grandpa, not yelling and screaming like the passengers in his car." -
What happens when you die?
Hagakure replied to Yawning Man's topic in Creativity, Spirituality & Philosophy
for what its worth, its my opinion that our conciousness are these atoms dancing together in a certain way and death is the end of the dance. i therefore cant see how a higher awareness after death would work. -

Would you go to war for australia
Hagakure replied to teonanacatl's topic in Creativity, Spirituality & Philosophy
if australia was under threat and the fight was justified then sure, i would fight. what would this world be like if no one stood up to the germans? wouldnt fight in a war i objected to though. edit: good to see others find the rebel group the sexier option in the poll. too many "tomorrow when the war began" readers perhaps. -
i think the surgical superglue is a special type and brand that is more pure or something. probably comes from the same vat but they charge triple for it.

"Paul Davies - The goldilocks Enigma" has just landed on my lap and i remembered this thread. anyone read it? apparently it deals with the question of why the universe is right for life in some detail.
