  1. Now now, take it easy on the Yankees.. I think there's been a fair amount of hype by the Aussies as well - remember it was the Aussie hype that led to the Yankees getting all excited about Eileen.. I would say Eileen has not discriminated by nationality when inducing hype :)

I think "hype" may have been too strong a word though, and it sounds perjorative.. Maybe there's a better and less antagonizing word I could have used..

I really don't mean to come off like I'm putting the cactus or its fans down, and hope I'm not coming off as "complaining"..

Gerbil - per the point of this thread: this forum is devoted to the study of psychoactive cacti - their growth habits, sacramental usage, morphology, potency, etc etc. Opening a discussion about a well known bridgesii clone and the way it compares to other bridgesii clones in these parameters seems highly relevant to me.. To my mind this is exactly the sort of information that helps us get a better sense of this world of psychoactive cacti that we involve ourselves in..

  2. Well by hype I mean that the Eileen clone has been elevated to a semi-mythical or at least exalted status among bridgesii clones on these boards, such that people pay good money for it and sometimes covet it greatly if they don't already have one growing.

The reason for this is widespread adoration for certain traits that Eileen exhibits: robust growth, girth, potency, rot resistance, and beauty. There are also sentiments to the effect that Eileen possesses these traits to a degree above and beyond other bridgesii clones. Eileen is very much seen as more desirable than other clones by many many people.

The point of this thread is certainly not to trash Eileen, but more to open people's eyes to the fact that, if this was just an un-named clone growing on USA soil, or in random people's collections, it may not have garnered any real attention.

This is good news, because it means there are a whole slew of bridgesii clones that seem equal to Eileen in the traits that make Eileen appear so desirable.. My own interest is piqued by this, and I think the future is promising and likely involves the discovery of other excellent clones/strains of bridgesii..

  3. I have growing now 3 different cuttings of Eileen, and have seen many other pics..

It seems to me that Eileen is a fairly typical bridgesii, its appearance is quite similar to other strains, of which I have 10+ growing.. All clones have their own unique look, of course, and the clones I grow I have selected for their appearance and potency (tested by either bioassay or lick test).. Eileen compares favorably, it is an attractive clone, but no more so than many of the others..

Per the perceived size and girth of Eileen - When Eileen cuttings put out pups, these pups turn into columns that aren't really any thicker than pups off most any other clone. I think the reason people associate Eileen with great thickness is because the batch of cuttings that went around were taken off Ed's huge mother plant which had been growing in the ground for many years. I suspect many or most bridgesii clones, if planted in the ground and left to grow for a decade, would get nice and fat as well..

Comparing pics of that plant to pics of other mature bridgesii (such as in pics of Bolivia etc), Eileen looks about like the other ones as far as thickness goes..

Also, while it is robust in growth, it is no more so than several other bridgesii I have growing..

It is not overrun with the black rot, but also not impervious - I have seen the black pus bubbles form on Eileen also..

It is also no more bitter, and actually less bitter than a couple other un-named clones bought in the USA.. I have not bio-assayed it yet, but I am going predict that 2% alkaloid is fairly common among bridgesii, and that Eileen is not remarkably potent compared to many other bridgesii..

I suspect that the reason Eileen is thought of as so potent is related to the age and size of the chunks people were consuming - eating a 1'x12"x4-5" thick chunk of any good bridgesii would be a quite strong experience, and all bridgesii (and San Pedro in general) are known for "magical" and "healing" type experiences..

The vast majority of bridgesii clones have not been tested or even bio-assayed, and we have never seen most or even many of these fully grown as we have seen with Eileen. I suspect that over time, as more un-named clones are tested, and more are grown to maturity, the Eileen clone will come to be seen as not so remarkable..

It is nevertheless a beautiful and good-growing cactus, and one of my favorites..

  4. Well I get the headaches sometimes, but sometimes I do not... They are mild-moderate, certainly annoying... Always at the tail end of the experience..

NSAID's like Ibuprofin or Naproxen are effective... Would be a great excuse to drink some poppy or kratom tea, though I wouldn't want to sully the clarity and glow of the mescaline (or deal with opiate constipation)

  5. Hehe, right on...

We don't really know what causes it though - I'm not talking about spine wounds necessarily - but the general bubbles that become black spots - most any bridgesii I've seen, when cut, will form those bubbles/black spots on the cutting -

I know a large bridgesii mother plant that has no scarring or black rot of any sort on it, but every cutting I've taken from it develops those bubbles/spots within a few days, and they take a matter of weeks to heal up and become scars... Some of them are pretty scary looking, and will drip that black pus out of them - but all such cuttings have recovered and the overall health, rooting, and growth seems unaffected...

I wonder why they do that when cut? Is it contamination of some sort?

T pachanoi/peruvianus don't seem to have that issue to nearly the same extent...

  6. That huge bridgesii growing by the person's house in one of those pics near the bottom of PD's first post looks similar to me to that "Bruce" clone - based on the close-up, and the pics I saw of the Bruce clone...

The close-up is from that same cactus no?

  7. That's interesting - we had a topic similar to this over at the nook and no one was able to say for sure that an A/B extracted only Mescaline - but some of those entries had TLC test to prove it eh?

Were those A/B extractions then in that thread? They were all submitted by the same person, or were they just posted by that same person?

I wonder why people seem to need much more of this "pure" mescaline than most of the literature states - people are taking up to a gram of these extracts with 500mg often being the point at which it becomes interesting - but older literature reports I've read put 500mg at the top of the dosage range (for the sulfate, which is weaker than the hcl) - so I was thinking that our extracts must not be that pure, or a mix of alkaloids...

That and some people are saying they notice a difference between the clean, acetone washed extracts, and the tan stuff - shouldn't make any difference though if mescaline is the only alkaloid carried over...

I can say for sure though that dry weight of cactus (that isn't dehydrated) is more like 5% of fresh weight, not 10% as the first poster in that thread says... So 95% water...

  8. When people are saying this or that clone has a certain mescaline %, how do they know it is pure mescaline and not just total alkaloid %? What sort of analysis is being done?

Some of the better known ones purport 2% or so mesc per dried weight - is this just someone doing an A/B extraction and weighing the product? Because if they are they're getting more alkaloids than just mescaline, especially if bridgesii is the starting material..

Also, there was a cactus potency thread here at SAB, but there was only like, 4 different clones listed, and the thread was closed - why would the thread be closed with only 4 clones listed?

  9. Wow man, sounds like quite some clarity there!

You know, back several years ago I was dealing with something quite similar, and it was actually Ringworm from over at Spiritplants who suggested that if I felt psychedelics were so great, but using them wasn't making me any less miserable, that I should take a year off from them and see how I feel - at first I totally rejected the idea but after awhile, after I had become even more hopeless feeling, I said "why not" and went for it - I took the year of psychedelics (and 6 months off everything else) and man it was just amazing - my whole personality came back to life, like becoming a little kid again...

  10. Hi there Coschi,

I can't say for sure I understand your situation but it does sound like a case of too much time spent in deeply psychedelic states and generally just drugged without enough time spent getting comfortable "at home" in the baseline state..

It sounds like you're way out of balance and have lost your "center", your grounding...

I once took 6 months off all chemicals, natural and synthetic psychedelics, coffee, chocolate, everything - was one of the best things I ever did for myself...

I think if you take the following recommendations you will be a new man:

    1. Cease ALL substances for at least 2 months (alcohol, psychedelics, caffeine, definately no caffeine!) - allow your biochemistry to achieve equilibrium - that's what it would LOVE to do right now I'm fairly certain...

    2. Get daily excercise - yoga, running, something that gets your heart pumping - clear away all the stagnant body tension/energy

    3. Sit quietly in reflection or meditation each day, for however long feels right - these times can become wonderful and like mini-trips into spacious openness

    4. Make a move toward cutting out crappy food and eat lots of fresh fruit, whole grains, veggies, non-processed hormone free meat etc...

Excercise is SO important in terms of really feeling good - I have had anxiety issues myself, and they creep back in if I don't get exercise regularly...

Learning to meditate creates space and openness in the mind, *equanimity* - just make a point to sit quietly each day with your eyes closed - first thing in the morning and before bed are great times, focus on being present with your breathing or your body sensations...

It sounds like what you're going through is a great lesson in learning about balance, living well - I've had to learn/am still learning these lessons - it's good you feel comfortable sharing honestly what you're going through too - talking to others takes the power out of painful issues IMO...

  11. Yah Charliewired I'd be happy to try and send you something as well from N america...

Felonius Monk - I live in SoCal too - what part are you from? I'm up to trade as well...

I'm all about swaping strains and genetics and whatnot, diversifying the collection and so on...

  12. First of all, don't blend up the fresh cactus - chop it up real small and boil it like that...

3-4X quick boils will get most all the alkaloids I believe - you can test and see by chewing on some of the cactus chunks after straining it and seeing if they're still bitter...

Doing it like that seems to reduce the slimyness a good bit, and brings over less cactus material so the nausea is less...

  13. I have some with bright neon yellow new spines, and some with reddish orange spines, and some with the dirty yellowish spines..

And I have one that put out all reddish spines, but recently some neon/bright yellow spines have sprouted out of some areoles!

I also have shorter and longer spined columns from the same mother plant...

I also have columns from the same mother plant that have 2-4 spines per areole on one column, and 5-7 spines per areole on another...

A slender column is a big identifier for a bridgesii I think - not all are, but if they're growing up skinny and aren't super shaded, it probably isn't a pachanoi or peruvianus...
