Hi Mycos, I was wondering if anyone would be able to do me a kindness and post a cube B+ spore print for (mycroscopy only). I did have a few prints that I prepared, but I think they met with a denaturing end when i drove across the Northern Territory in the car and experienced a lot of 40+ days and then got moist in the humidity of Northern QLD. I'm currently in VIC. I don't have a hearty exchange as such, but happy to send a gift card for dan murphy's / liquorland etc for a bottle of semi sav blanc or alike for your efforts. Hey guys, I have a terrarium setup which is a 26L rectangular plastic translucent container with holes drilled in all 6 sides. I have a moist mixture in the bottom of perl/verm and a heat cable sitting in this mixture, to provide warmth. Then on top of this I rest my colonised wheat berries and bulk substrate in alufoil containers. Should i have my thermostat positioned to control the temp in the air or in the perl/verm mix. It seems that when the air temp is about 24c, the perl/verm mix is about 36c. So from the texts I've read it says approx 21c to 25c for fruiting stage right? So would I assume that means air temp? And whats the best way to sterilise coconoir fibres for bulk substrate? I found out the hard way that it's not sterile even though it comes sealed and fully dried at a high temp. Thanks.

Hi guys, Can anyone help me with some colonisation issues I'm experiencing. I have a good incubation chamber set up, with the right warmth and darkness. But it seems that for the 500ml jars I use they colonise in about 12days. The 1000ml jars I use colonise as usual for about 6 days and then just stop dead in their tracks and have no more progress at all no matter how long I wait. But the other jars in the same environment that are half the size (500ml) keep kicking on happily to 100% colonisation? Any ideas? I was wondering if it may be co2 build up or peroxidase or something? Ive tried it with 3 different batches using different syringes, wheat berries and sterilisation and arrive to the same result. Cheers.

I have no holes for gas exchange in either size jars. Is that essential? Maybe I'l have a crack at drilling one lid on the big jars. That may possibly be the issue. Thanks.

Hey guys, I have read a very interesting article in a forum about Salvia Divinorum today. http://www.australianethnobotany.com/viewtopic.php?t=930 It states that when the Therapuetic Goods Admin schedules a plant as being banned, for whatever reason, the federal government doesn't have the power to legally enforce it, only the states do. So TGA scheduling is forwarded to the states as a recommendation and is not legally enforceable, unless it is legislated by that state as law. I've emailed TGA and WAQIS (WA quarantine) and have got no reply from either. Does anyone have any knowledge about this, or knows what the legislation act is, or which state department manages it? The article I read stated that in Victoria, Salvia is illegal to sell or buy, but NOT to possess or use, which is a nice little loophole if it is in fact, true. But also it is legally quite intriguing. I'm studying enviro law, and I can see how it is a state responsibility unless it is imported, which is when it becomes a federal issue. I know this is the really long way around getting access to a wonderful life changing plant, but from the few experiences I had prior to it being illegal, i found a deep respect and affection for the Lady Sage. All I can say is that it's a shame she only reproduces through propagated cuttings, which I've I still have never come across. Why doesn't she set seed ha? But that's the majesty of life.

Hello all, What do you guys use to gain ambient heat when colonising and in particular when your fruiting. I am using a PF tek plastic box, drilled with tiny holes, and I hand spray with water twice a day and air it at the same times. I just can't get a stable temperature going on. At the moment I'm using a 2m 8 watt reptile heating cord with a thermostat, but it sits around 16-20c, which is air temp. I've tried a heating plant propagation mat too, but the heat transfer from the mat to the box is super inefficient. Does anyone have any suggestions. Cheers.

Hey Niall, Seems like a pretty noble case for human rights you have there. I'm currently studying Enviro Law at uni. I was thinking that you may want to research any international conventions that advocate for the protection of religious and spiritual rights and traditions, as the australian legislature must reflect international conventions that we ratify as a nation. There is precident (my understanding) where a convicted drug dealer and his family were to be deported, when he challenged the sentencing as contradicting an international convention (Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989) I think) that we as a nation ratified, and one of the principles of that convention was the protection of children. He therefore claimed being deported was risking his childs safety and won his case. (refer minister vs teoh (1995)CLR 273, 287). I believe he was still jailed but in Australia, and his family was able to remain. Perhaps International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (1965) or International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (1966) Just a thought. You may want to check out there principles as support for your case, and there is precident. And if you go the high or supreme courts this is the highest form of convention and protocol that creates our common law system. Good luck.

Hey yall, Need some help? I have a pf tek grow chamber, have four cakes in there. The first 2 have grown about 17 mushrooms. The second 2 have grown nothing at all. Same culture, same treatment, same little white fluffy rhizomorphs. They look primed and ready for battle. But just no love! I have a heat pad and the temp sticks to about 20 - 22c. Humidity is about 85-95%. I just dont get it. Can cakes be temperamental and just plain moody sometimes. PS this is my first successful grow, so it may be my parenting. Cheers.

Hey, I'm not sure that all this media saturation on Ecoliving and climate change is positive or timely hey. I'm studying environmental biology. I like to live simply and as sustainably as possible. But no matter which way I look at it, I can see any of it working. Two reasons: Law of thermodynamics - nothing can be created or destroyed (basicly) so if thats a law of our physical world, no matter what we do, the effects of humanity and our sheer population will always overwhelm and toxify the world. Lets say we all stopped using petroleum fuels and changed to biofuels. We would end of polluting the world, with organic wastes, masses of fertilisers to create corn or seaweed or soya, potentially more drastic food and water shortages, destroying land viability through monoculturing soils, and whatever gas waste we create will ultimately have an effect of some sort. No matter what we do, if we do anything on a mainstream human scale it's always going to destroy and altar our world. Second reason: If anything were a governing principal of the world, it is that change will occur. Change is life and evolution. I think that all these scare tactics by the media about polar bears drowning and the great barrier reef dying, is terrible and sad, but it's just rapid change. Maybe too rapid for species to adapt to, but it will just be a new niche environment for new dominant species that evolve or adapt. If you consider that there has historically been 2 mass extinctions occur already where 90% off all species on earth have died and yet here we are today with new cloud leopards being discovered in asia and southern sandhill frogs who dont tadpole, but have eggs that hatch straight into little froglings. I think its just really rapid change, and humans dont like that. We might have to bite the bullet. I'm sure a lot of people are gonna die as a result. But where's the god given right for humans to live over all other life? I have a semi factual theory. We are a closed system on planet earth. Besides some astral dust coming in and the occasional meteorite. If you consider our world as a forest, it is self moderating. No matter what occurs, it will always change, nothing will remain dominant (tree, insect or animal). Sooo. There is a limited amount of resources. And when that runs out, the order is changed and the dominant species is severely reduced in number, dies or relocates. Humans can't relocate. That leaves 2 options. You cant create resources out of nothing. We are limited, and no matter what we use, it's life will be short, cause it can't sustain us all. I think our world will moderate humanity. And i think the way it is beginning to do that is through drought, disease, famine and thirst. I can see it wont be too far away, before nations will war over arable farm land and uncontaminated fresh water, not the holy land and oil fields. I found out at uni in a lecture last semester that there is less than 0.2% of uncontaminated fresh water left on the surface excluding polar ice. Well thats what i think anyway. What do you think?

If he hasn't got his heavy ridgid license and wants cash now. I'd suggest going to ESS which is a division of a global company called compass - who deal with the hospitailty side of cleaning, bar work and food prep. They pay well, and it's a good foot in the door, to get onto the sites and once he's there, can make inside contacts quite easy without requiring tickets or training first. If he is a bright smart guy he will stand out from a lot of the ferals that work out there quickly. I registered with ESS and they had me inducted and ready to fly in 4 days. I've got two other friends who did the same and one has just worked for 6 months and travelled europe with his savings for 4 months and the other is now a rig pig for an off shore oil company near PNG and is making a $130k a year, and started from making salads in the kitchen 3 years ago. It's an option.

Hey, I'm a west coaster and I was walking to work as you do, on a cold monday morning and I crossed these guys in a park right in the middle of the CBD. I'm not totally convinced they are shaggy's. I was gonna grab one on the way home to print, but someone had jumped on them all and trashed them, so I had to wait for the next flush to take these pics. They definitely are inky as. As they matured their caps opened up, broke contact with the trunk and started flaking and dripping lots of black inky fluid, liquifying from the outside of the gills inwards. The stems are very white until they matured and became stained with the fluid. Can anyone ID these? I've gotta say I love the fact these babies, battled the odds and popped up right in the centre of the metrolitan area.

Heya, I was wondering if anyone had more information in their grasp than I can find. I know in WA having 2 mully plants is decriminalised but is still illegal. Likely punishment being $200 fine and a "drugs are bad course". I was wandering about specification of that particular scenario. Is being caught with 2 mully plants inside grown hydroponically, considered the same in a legal sense as 2 mully plants grown outside in the garden? Hey, I have been very unsuccessfully trying to grow some peyote and peruvian torch from seeds and was wandering if i can get some tips. I made a mixture of cacti/succulent mix and combined that with a course river sand. Baked it at 200c for an hour, waited for it to cool and baked again the next day at same specs. I have 2 seedling trays in a little plastic hot house. 1 tray for peruv and 1 tray for loph, being one as a dry spec and one sub tropical spec. I have a heating matt under the hot house, which maintains 10c over room temp and have maintained humidity and not one of the buggers has germinated and it has been over 2 weeks. From what I read the energy reserves they have from seeding, should allow them to sprout quite quickly and then slow down after that. I'm obviously doing something wrong but what that is, I've no clue to. Any help would be great. Cheers.

Hey guys, I'm looking into my first grow now. I have 3 different spore prints. I have used cubensis to make a spore syringe and have all the stuff ready now to start colonising my jars. Got brown rice flour and the vermiculite. Have coco coir and straw and horse pooh for casing. But before it all kicks off, I need to figure out what's the best way to do a home jobby, when fruiting. I read the help file that's pinned to the myco section, which was great. But what conditions and temps do I need to make it fruit and how do I achieve that? I'm in Perth WA, so the temp now is quite good for shrooming outside, but it will be indoors. What do you guys use for a practical setup at home? Is the hot house enough to maintain temp and humidity or do you use other tools. I wish there was a mushroom union rep who would make call out visits to homes baring knowledge and carlton super dry's or maybe even some hot indian chai tea.

Thats a really good concept. But I would suspect that kind of liberalism would take a very long time to succeed in australia. I couldnt imagine the goverment allowing people to grow but only in small quantities to prevent dealing and drug swapping. But it's a great idea and very good compromise, between personal use and state restrictions on growing and dealing. Thanks for all your feedback on that one matie.

Yeah I didn't actually plant them per se. I just dropped em on top and barely covered em with the lightest fine sand. But my seeds look light a big grain of black sand. They are tiny. Is that right? It wouldn't even suspect those babies were seeds if i didn't buy em off shaman.

Hold up there cow boy.... am i meant to be using a light. I thought you only had to expose them to very slight indirect light, so I have them in a room near the window and open the curtins half way to let the light in during the day. Is that enough? Or do I need grow lights?

Sure is viable seed mate. I bought them new from shaman. I left the soil to cool overnight after I cooked it so that's definitely not it, and then i planted the seeds shallow the next morning.

Yeah it is on 24/7. But I'm in perth and it's winter and the heating pad maintains 10c over room temp. So I reckon it varies from probably 20c to 30c. But I might try giving it a cool period in another week if there is still no results.
