Poor dog, your in a bad situation and I feel for you and your pooch, you may have to prove this was a break in some how, this may involve getting the police on side and reporting the incident, no matter how ill you are it will not suffice as an excuse for not formally reporting the incident, the council will not even bother listening to the audio you have, You are best hiding the dog ( shitty legal advice that will lead to more trouble no doubt) thats all I would/could do in your situation, you will need to be vigilant and strong willed but at least you will still posses your beloved animal, or you could lynch the dirt bag who broke into your dwelling and get him to retract his complaint and tell the authorities that hes a compulsive liar and to ignore any further compliants logged by him, if it a good enough lynching it will work, then get the f@#k out of the morton bay area. Really sad story wood woman, but we live in a society where you can break someones nose and use the excuse of constant drug abuse and internal rage to get away with it. Terrible advice but thats what I would do in my situation but I would probably rob a bank to save my beloved friend (I had to put my pooch down in august this year due to cancer and iv been really hollow ever since and probably will be for many years yet)

I'd just make sure that most of your back yard isnt visible from the street, should be ok, having said that a lady I worked for who collected orchids had her glass houses broken into a few times, although there was no visible indicators of rare orchids in glass houses from the front yard or street, the thieves had previously gained access via friends of members of the orchid society she was a member of and her hospitality for having them over, thieves always come at you sideways, you never know when your going be targeted, simply making your treasures not visible will leave any opportunists oblivious to whats going on out back and at worst you will have is a missing limb or cactus from the front,

Im in melbourne as well n we havent had anything close to frost yet, im only assuming your close too me though, lol give it a wee bit of a squeze, if it feels too soft and it's weeping id just get rid of it, mayb its just that odd cut that goes bad, I reckon if it was catchy you would have noticed other cuts going bad, I callous my cuts in the open air around near the plant they come off n 1 in 10 go soft, sometimes they recover , im suggesting putting it out in the open some where that's not too wet n dark,

To me from here it looks like it was going to go soft but maybe a sudden change in conditions stopped it , it seems to be alright now maybe.

My old dog ate about 15 large subs once, i really shit myself to begin with but observed that it didnt change her behaviour much at all, she just seemed a little evasive and preoccupied, if I hadnt busted her eating the subs I probably wouldnt have recognised any symptoms, dare to say that it seemed to not affect my dog really at all, wonder if there are any other careless dog owners like myself?

^ after reading that, all I wanna do is try it, it sounds just like my kinda thing, hehehe,
