    Yes, delicious! A culture I cloned from Watertrade-thanks! Mixed into paper spawn, neglected in ziplock bag for 6 months in back of car. Spawned to pasteurised stable sweepings....almost a year later Fried in butter, served on toast with salt n pepper

    If it wasn't my girlfriends B'day on Thursday, and I didn't have to work this weekend, I'ld be there. Perfect weather lately for you guys-lactarius and boletes all over the place. All souls day on Thursday-Simmhaiden(sic)-supposedly when heaven and earth are closest.... Has the personal message feature dissappeared from SAB? Haven't found it lately. WT-if you need to borrow a field guide, I've got Aroras "All that the rain promises, and more".
  4. I doubt I can make it those dates, but just thought I'ld mention you'll be close to the best Cactus farm in the country, Cactus Country-at Strathmerton. Buy in bulk and save-used to be $4 a foot for a chunky pedro.

    Wait and see. The big tuber should be fine under ground during the freeze, but still plenty of time for flowering.

    Ok, so I'm going to attempt to put some photos up for your pleasure and inspiration. These mushrooms went from agar (thanks to Watertrade) Like this, but different species From there I grew them on popcorn, like this Then I took a piece of colonised popcorn and placed it in a ziplock bag with shredded newspaper, moistened with coffee and milo. The bag colonised nicely, and has been used many times. The mycelium sticks to the plastic, so after using the paper spawn I just fill the bag up with more substrate-it's been living and growing in the bag for almost a year now, with about 4 changes of substrate. Here's a pic Next it was onto some coir mixed with left over cooked brown rice, and these are some of the results Next, after harvesting about 6 nice sized King oysters, I broke the substrate up into small pieces, and mixed them with woodchips in a trench I dug in the garden. Now I've got another half a dozen mushies popping up in the trench-I better go and take some more photos!

    Hmmm...I think that's my hand writing, but hey, fools seldom differ. The Orchids are my wifes, and those particular ones have been flowering in our kitchen for well over a month-must be closer to two months. Amazing. If you're thinking of buying some flowers for someone special, get a living Orchid-year after year of long lived flowers. While I'm showing off, check out these shiitakes I grew in Tassie 2 years ago Those travelling mushies survived for months in my car, along with a box of other experiments. We ate those mushies, and used the dried out substrate to start more. Temperatures varied from stinking hot to freezing cold. Some transfers involved no pressure cooking or glove box-and I've had more success than failures to date.

    "God" and "Gods" meant different things to Euros and Americans, so the translation is problematic. Reminds me a bit of beer-mainly starchy, initially doesn't taste that good, but it's easy to appreciate a good one after a bit of exposure-largely due to effects. Have you tried adding Tagetes lucida? I think my first post here was about Montezumas chocy recipe...I'm still trying to track down the flowering plant that helps the froth...forgotten the name, starts with Q.

    Just make sure the plastic is no.5, that's Polypropylene. They work a treat, but IME about 1 in 10 crack or warp.

    If petrol wasn't so expensive, I'ld be looking closer to the coast, or even Bathurst way-the rains have been falling, just not in the ACT. Maybe a road trip is in order. I've been getting dozens of King Oysters from left over brown rice mixed with coir, no temperature controls. One of the tastiest shrooms around, reminiscent of Abalone or Calamari. I really like David Aroras field guide "All That the Rain Promises and More...", it's American, but lots of shrooms are cosmopolitan (spores+wind+travelling birds/people). In answer to your Question Ace, not if it's a Polar Bear.

    That's scary stuff-the fire ant technology being approved for all social insects! Americas bees have been decimated lately, and no one is sure why....social insects keep many ecosystems functioning, from termites to ants etc. I dig the bioremediation, but the biocidal uses needs to be scrutinised to ensure it is site specific and can't escape.

    Using dowells for wood lovers

    G'day, I've scored a box of furniture dowells, and I'm keen to innoculate them with shiitake, reishi and hericium at this stage, and hopefully a few other choice edibles down the track. Does anyone know how to prepare the dowells? I've started with a bunch soaking in boiled water, but was wondering if adding gypsum or nutrients to the water would be better. Also, does anyone know a good, cheap source of hessian sacks? Shiitake seems to love it.

    G'day Ace, I scored a bunch from a cleaner, 50cents each. I've got to track down his number, it was in the Canberra Times, Tuesday flea market, late Jan/early Feb. If he's still got any, I'll grab the lot, and send some your way. In Tassie I got them free from a spice shop.

    G'day, I've been copping some hayfever lately, and a while back I killed my ma huang with a dose of worm castings. A few twigs used to fix me up in no time. My plant was a tough little thing, moving from Lismore to Tassie to Bellingen, often without soil for days, left to dry for long periods, but hung in there to provide me with relief after lawnmowing or woodworking. Bloody worm castings.. Anyhow, I would dearly like to have some handy, and would be happy to trade or buy plants or seeds. Muchos gracias

    No worries Harry. Torsten, I'm getting some fruit trees from Forbidden Fruits sent down here-they're based up near Mullum, do you think it would be possible to get one shipped down with the fruit trees? I can wait 'till Autumn.
