Yep, and based on my uncontaminated stacks of agar cultures and the 20 jars I've prepared via g2g I think it is doing its job quite well -

If you had taken the time to read the entire original post you would know that I commented several times on the nature of the outflow of air from the unit and the fact that this design is NOT comparable to a professional laminar flow hood. -

To be honest I still don't understand half of what you said in your first post. I'm no trying to be rude, just honest. -

i think you might be confused as to the function and purpose of a laminar flow hood. It does not require gloves, except for the nitrile or latex gloves you should use whilst operating it. Is English your first language? -

yes, but this type of instrument is still commonly referred to as a laminar flow hood. -

thanks, but no a hood does not necessarily have a cover. you are right that a coat of enamel paint would definitely make the hood easier to clean. -

I met the writer of this website (an Australian) whilst travelling in Peru last year. It is essentially a recount of his month spent living in a tiny Peruvian village in the Amazon basin. During this time he lived with the family of the village's shaman (without running water or electricity), and regularly consumed ayahuasca (as well as numerous other indigenous medicinal plants) whilst adhering to a strict diet. The site includes a detailed introduction into what exactly ayahuasca is, as well as a moderate summary of the chemistry and history of psychedelics, followed by a recount of his experiences. He asked me to pass on the site info to anyone who may be interested, as he is keen to get any feedback he can on the content. If you think you would enjoy reading about his experiences (or you know someone who might), the website is theayahuascadiaries.com There is also a facebook fan page which you can 'like' to get updates on new additions to the site http://www.facebook.com/pages/theAyahuascaDiariescom/209154652430674 Thanks very much soma

Identifying common ornamental in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
soma_seeker posted a question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
Hi guys, So my gnome has been spending quite a bit of time in Rio de Janeiro lately and he tells me that there is a columnar ornamental cactus that is commonly displayed in front of large appartment complexes. Has anyone spent any time in Rio and know what I'm referring to? They are VERY common in the Zona Sul area, but my gnome tells me he has never actually seen one growing wild anywhere in Rio - just ornamental. First novice thoughts (or hopes), were that this species may be a Trichocereus Bridgesii, or a Trichocereus Pachanoi. After having examined them more closely, Cereus Peruvianus may be more likely. However, a more educated opinion would be really appreciated (especially since they really resemble a cactus which I previously bought, sold to me as a Trichocereus Bridgesii). Ok, so the majority of the specimens have 5 ribs, and a few have 4. The largest plants seen were several metres in height, and it was quite common for part of the plant to be bright yellow (it appears to be a common disease for this species - at least in Rio). I'll include several photographs (the quality of which vary), in the hope that you can help me verify their identity. My gnome was really hoping it might be an active species but he is thinking they are more likely to be a C. Peruvianus Thanks! -

I appreciate that it is of course better to stick to the side of caution in these matters, and i'm not trying to rock the boat or elicit argument with this post, I just wanted to see if anyone had any personal experience with such a circumstance as this.... Say I was to have been travelling/living in South America (or any country where SD is very commonly and easily/legally obtained in clearly marked, honest packaging), and attempted to return home with a small (personal) quantity of some clearly labelled SD materials (leaf, extract). If I was to declare these items at customs, do you think it is possible/likely that I would be at risk of legal prosecution by customs?... i.e. If the customs officials DID recognise the material as a prohibited substance, would they merely inform me of this and confiscate it (perhaps the argument of ignorance would be of help here, since customs don't actually list it as a prohibited import), or would they contact the local authorities and allow me to be legally prosecuted?.... Similarly, how would this scenario play out if the individual declared the possession of a small quantity of Mimosa Hostilis root-bark? Clearly this material is known to contain DMT, and is as I understand it a restricted import, but the customs declaration of prohibited substances makes no mention of this species. In regards to DMT, the following is declared restricted; "DMT; including plants and parts of the plants of the species Piptadenia peregrina(Anadenanthera pergrina)" i.e. Yopo, not Mimosa Hostilis!.... Again, I'd like to stress that I'm not asking for anyone's advice to break the law, I'm merely trying to better understand this situation.... Cheers!

Mapacho smoke actually contains some MAOIs, so it potentiates the power of the ayahuasca brew. I've drank from brews that had several whole mapacho cigarettes thrown into the mix. It can also be quite effective at dulling the awful taste and nausea incurred by drinking ayahuasca. You can 'chase' the brew by smoking a mopacho immediately after :S

I really like the tarantula photo too. Crazy stuff :S Yeh it seems there is a wide range of experiences that can be had in regards to ayahuasca tourism. I guess the only real option is to look for an experience which is as safe and legitimate as you can find within the crazyness....

Yeh it can be a little long-winded at times. I guess he is trying to accommodate for those with no prior knowledge in the area.
