australia doesn't have moths? i seem to remember yur country having MANY moth species. or is viable seed not a problem if there are 2 plants?
-
what pollinates their native wild? birds?
-
the only ephedra i ever had was stuff i bought in many different gas stations travelling through america when younger...made those long drives at night fly by! i never had that with betel. peopel here will eat 10+ in a row...but these asian folk like their betel! i have learned, never fuck with their alcohol, bettel or gambling

although not a hug efan of stimulants, Betel nut is my favourite.

has it flowered? if it is a seed pod, certainly does not look ready to remove....i would wait until it starts changing colour. they mention B. x insignis http://www.abads.net/description_and_identification_o.htm also see http://www.abads.net/brugidchart.htm for a good ID key. edit: perhaps they dont mention insignis because it is a hybrid between B. suaveolens and B. versicolor. perhaps looking into those 2 sp. will give some idea as to seed pod form?

mine often start growing "pups" before they root. sometimes it takes a week, some have taken 4 weeks (and look very dehydrated). some are only 1-2 cm high, some are big. they generally grow fine if left alone.

Lobiva sp? now echinopsis i think?
-
looks cool. opuntia sp. seem to take a little longer to germ, so i would plant em now. might take a month. i have not grafted that way, but i have grafted some pachanoi seedlings to opuntia sp. i am still waiting to see how good it is though...
-
sounds liek yo got it ok. they will grow regardless. i grew mine under flouros for the first year, no where near as many as you. 3 3' bulbs. that got them 1.5 feet. i thought that was pretty good from leaf cuttings.

found this. http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flo...taxon_id=132175 once i go through and learn what the hell all those funky science words mean, i can pump out an ID....hopefully.

Wanted Seeds or Plants: VIABLE Griffonia, Coleus Forskohlii, 'Funeral Tree' (Quararibea funebris)
kadakuda replied to Gardener's topic in Seed & Plant Swaps
griffonia is hard to germinate. -
except seedlings i have always grown mine in 20-35 degrees. in 30-35 they grow FAST. i dont think flouros would make the box that hot. in closed vivariums it would rarely bring it to 30 in my experience. and they were mostly closed and had anywhere from 3 to 12 flouro fictures. fans just seem pointless to me unless your house is already fairly warm.

dont know about hte others, but betel nut is available everywhere here in SE asia. you will eb able to buy it any minte of the day i presume. we got kilometers of farms in my village (not indo), and i hear indonesia/malaysia has just as much if not more...

they may make roots but dont cacti need an areole to sprout a pup?
-
Camellia sinensis-Tea plant. they grow like a bonsai on farms as they are always picking the leaves. very cool to see! i think brug's would work great. maple trees have big leaves too but over time they shrink way down (through constant work).
-
i was under the impression it was an intense hallucinogen. I believe shultes put it under that category, at least when eaten.
-
hmm i see, same sor tof thing i was doing. dont mean to jack the thread but has anyone grown any from cactus heaven? all my other trichs sprouted with 90+% but out of 100 seeds i got no TB's to sprout. are they generally the same guidlines as pedros/torches. and very nice cacti by the way, i would love to have that kind of collection!
-
many cacti contain alkaloids, not jsut mescaline. many can be considered active, but dont expect a peyote trip from a cereus....
-
very nice!!! how did you get the bridgesii to germinate? i am having troubles.
-
i have posted these pics a lot, but here is a couple. i did not graft them, i was jsut teh lucky bugger who bought them. Grafted on Hylocereus undatus, age unknown but flowering pretty steadily. 4 from one and 5 from the other after only 2 months. side note, how long does it take a loph to fruit? less than a year? just got some peresk so i will try some grafting onto those shortly. Anyone ever try grafting to cereus? is it about the same growth as a trich? smaller one (flowers more though...) bigger one
-
yes that is basically how it is done. but they don't branch too much on their own. so if you top it hten you get more branches hanging over. many of the growers here have a single stock with 40+ branches at the top. they will set fruit if climbing just not as many. give good support too, they get heavy!

excellent thanks. they dont know the latin name, there was a chinese name that does not work in any translator.....

Here are some photos of my fairly newly acquired peyote's. they have grown a LOT since i had them. who said 30 degree direct sun wasn't good for them? So what is your call? williamsii of difussa? rids say difussa flower says williamsii. but williamsii can have messed up ribs and diffusa can have pink flowers. so what makes one think its one or the other? in order of date. the pair when they first started flowering. here is the bigger one, nice and tall. [image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v486/kadakuda/lophflower2.jpg[/image] the bigger one flowered first, but just one flower. [image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v486/kadakuda/lophflower5.jpg[/image] In all her glory. this one was self pollinated to see if they will be fertile. [image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v486/kadakuda/lophflower7.jpg[/image] the smaller one however sprung out 2 flowers. [image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v486/kadakuda/lophflower9.jpg[/image] Here they are out in full display. I gave these girls some pollen from the other cacti. [image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v486/kadakuda/lophflower11.jpg[/image] side veiw [image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v486/kadakuda/lophflower13.jpg[/image] scratch that. today i noticed 3 more. i was never good at math, but i believe that makes 5 flowers :crazy2: [image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v486/kadakuda/loph2.jpg[/image] [image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v486/kadakuda/loph3.jpg[/image] size comparison, Canadian loonie. [image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v486/kadakuda/loph4.jpg[/image] the bigger one got jealous and decided to make it a competition. here is flower #2. See where that areole is with the dieing flower? that was just barely visible when i bought it about a month ago, all the others inside of that one are new growth since. [image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v486/kadakuda/loph5.jpg[/image] More photos to follow as they grow/flower/fruit or pup (i hope....). they are both in 4" pots and seem to be about 3" wide...i have not measured them for some dumb reason. grafted on hylocereus.

i think so as well, but i have gotten 2 pm's saying that it is diffusa, because diffusa can have pink flowers. the variation mentioned was l. diffusa v. kohreshii. you don't think so? i am really very curious as to why EXACTLY people are going one way or the other, because flower colour just doesn't seem to be accurate...according to sites saying that both can be pink... the only thing that seems fairly certain is williamsii cant be white, so if they were white i guess tehy would be diffusa, but they can also be pink...so???
