How to recognize Trichocereus Terscheckii & Pasacana
Plantsoma replied to mutant's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
Trichocereus/Echinopsis werdermannianus Photos a bit old, this one was potted up and has grown triple this size in 9 months. -
Wow, and I thought Idiospermum australiense was a subspecies of Homo sapien. Seem to be a lot of those around Newcastle. ;)

Heya to those in Newe.

Wow. Sounds like an awesome experience. Happy birthday, happy travels and good luck with your artworks.

Perhaps Acacia terminalis. [EDIT] Actually, on second look, I don't think it is Acacia terminalis. I've seen it before, but can't think what it is now.

I'll say bridgesii too.

I wish you luck. Viable seed is as rare as hens teeth. I only know of a few people in Australia that have successfully cultivated this plant. Have a read at the Australian Bushfoods Forum, there is a fair bit of info from people that grow this. http://www.bushfood.net/

Hey Hunab, do you think your chilli is like this one of mine? Capsicum frutescens. I don't know what variety it is, but it looks a lot like yours.

Yes, that could be the case Tst. These seeds have been lying around since '03.

I just soaked some Acacia victoriae seeds to sow. As they are an arid region plant i thought the soak time should be minimal so as to minimize fungal problems. Most swelled in seconds (in hot smoke water, not boiling) and the tails seemed to pop out straight away and they look a darker brown than the yellowish that i usually encounter with other acacia. I pulled them out of the water straight away, so they were in there for about 1 minute. When i sowed them, most of these tails snapped off. Has anyone germinated these? Is soaking wrong for this species? Not all swelled with the tails out so i have a bit of variety and some may still germinate.

I am pretty sure it is the radicle as there were no aril present on the round seeds. Ive never germinated a round acacia seed like this so im not sure yet. Ill monitor them and post progress.

I have the same problem with my P.cath at the moment. The ants are farming aphids especially on the forming flower buds. My organic solution that works well is i spray them with the trigger hose on shower full blast. My plant is pretty old and the branches are tough, so it doesnt damage the plant. I just hose all the ants away and it seems to be detering them coming back. It's in my hothouse so the ants are at a disadvantage getting back up there once i soak the house with water.

Yeah, i see 'Ryan' at the bottom too, didn't notice that before. Makes things a bit different. Very confusing all round It makes it look like Dr Karl has his stamp of approval on it.

Yeah, very misleading where he states psychotropic use and the next sentence refers to DMT in Acacia. As far as i was aware the psychotropic use was related to the Duboisia sp and for the uneducated, it would be easy to assume he was refering to indigenous use of DMT, even though he does state further down that DMT needs a MAOI to be active orally. His 0.3% statement is, yeah, very innacurate. Who was his reference for that Julian? I saw the Dr on the walk back through Sydney CBD after visiting the Botanic Gardens a few weeks ago. He was flogging his new book in a bookshop.

Metal Halide (MH) is the really white light. High Pressure Sodium (HPS) is a very yellow light. Are halogen the same as MH?

Awesome pics! Great overview of MS Paint here

LMFAO Sorry, i can't help though. Man that post is piss funny!

I used a 600w HPS lamp in a laundry to keep my cacti kicking over winter when i was living in the cold mountains. I didn't realise they were so nasty on the skin Hunab. I just thought it would be the equivalent of a hot summers day. God, i used to enjoy going in to water them after work because of the warmth and it was 2deg outside. Whoopsie. The cacti seemed to love it, none got burnt or were close to the light and they grew amazingly.

Beautiful flowers. That pink one is amazing. What variety is it? Certainly are here too. I've been using water diluted garlic oil, seems to be the most effective organic method i've tried. You have to spray regularily though to make an impact.
