    WTF is eating my graft

whilst travelling through a northern jungle a friend had a beetle take up residence in his ear... after the usual techniques failed to remove it he syringed cooking oil into his ear and once satisfied the crunchy critter had drowned and was dead after, considerable hours waiting anxiously, he syringed fresh water into his ear repeatedly and eventually flushed out and removed the dead beetle! maybe try that on your cactus? oil coats and blocks the breathing holes of the beetles exoskeleton...and the beauty is its environmentally friendly:-). cheers, BL

Howdy y'all, geez havn't been here in a while... hope all is well out there. just curious as to the viability of cacti seeds as they get older.. I've got some Loph. willimasi seed that I recieved from SAB about 4 years ago, is it worth having a crack at growing old seeds or should I just buy some fresh seed? any thoughts appreciated. cheers, BL

    passionflower

seed offer the potential, but as far as my learnings at TAFE have been going most comercialially available Passiflora species are grafted onto more managable rootstocks due to, as Rev noted, their nasty suckering habits... I'll have a look through my notes, find out what species is an acceptable understock... just for curiositys sake. cheers, BL

    "torres strait weed" bioassay

package from Teo arrived this afternoon. 5:30pm stem removed from bud, bud chopped, 2 cones packed and punched in succession, taking thelema's lead and holding for a count of 10. Smoke smooth, fairly tasteless(tainted the flavour of my pepsi but, made it taste sorta like it had dirt in it..go figure?) immeadiate noticible relaxation, more pronounced upon standing up, ALSMOST salvia like yet quite different...but as Apoth said: "You know when you pull a cone and you get that feeling straight away? Like that, but definitely didn't break through to the "oh man I'm stoned" stage." definately interesting and enjoyable. One thing comparible to MJ is... I sat down and played my bass for approx half hour session and like with MJ it improves my fingering speed and sense of and rythm(ofcourse maybe it just sounds better to me when im in an altered state) the effects had completely worn off after that half hour. a positive experience, subtle but fun hmmm well there you go.... Interesting find there Teo, thanks for sharing it with me and I hope my input is useful. Keep us updated on your progress with any possible extractions as i believe this plant has quite some potential yet! chers from the pit, BL

    whole heapa cereus

I think smogs and others have recommended using those cotton bud things (little white sticks with fluffs of cotton on either end) for pollen collection, they are clean n sterile straight from the pack which is a bonus i suppose :-) cheers, BL

It's a good idea to meet people in person

and on that note, any sydney ethnobots out there want to meet up some stage, maybe a picnic or some such in a suitable location? botanic gardens for instance? any other suggestions welcome... let me know, I'm no leader and hence a hopeless organiser but if people are keen we should set a date and a place... my attempt to reach out :-)cheers from the pit, BL
