A friend of mine is making some mushroom substrate from the classic brown rice flow and vermiculite for the fun of it. Water was added carefully to the verm to the point of saturation (lots and lots of stirring to make sure its all equal) with just a little bit of watter running out when tilted. But once he added the BRF the mixture is now quite dry, pictures of other substrates also look dry. But he carnt really tell. Its just that a little more than planned BRF was added. When a particle of verm covered in BRF is squished a tiny amount of watter comes out. I would get a pic but camera is broken J.] DW PLEASE IGNORE ME

so there steaming along now, always a nice surprise when i wake up ^_^ but i notice a few of the cakes are showing quite a lot of blueing?? Dose this mean i will just have to dunk them after the flush?

pinnings started :D new ones come up every couple of hours, the ones with verm had pins 1st and about 3 or more each. So i decided to put verm on all of them.

Every one else dose it so ill follow them No update cuze im at uni... and had to quickly fan this morning.

Birthed three and made a little plate with verm for them to sit on. All smells nice and mushroomery :D Just keeping my eye on the top left one as theres a little bluey.greenery spec. Hoping its just from getting them out and handling them. But i noticed when i took the pics the others had the same thing were i touched them. Im going to birth the ones that have been fully colonized for a week today. Also bump for my question above? I think a couple are knotting, but i can't tell because there heaps of condensation and because the glasses have 8 faces and screwing with looking at them

one has quite a bit and two more have some starting, all the on the surface.I was planning on putting verm on the top (rolling it in verm..) but should i avoid that since its fluffing on top? and yes they are all upside down

all but one are fully surface colonised no signs of pinning yet.

Got home from uni to day and to my surprise some on had riped open a little package for me (hydrometer) wtf. What im hoping is they riped off the stamp for collection , but knowing people in this world more than likely riped it open to have a look. The corner was ripped and they tore through the hydrometer box. Saw what it was and put it back. But ive also got some pocket scales coming and should be here today or tomorrow and just hoping the fuckwit didn't steal my scales. dammit should of gotten the $2 postage insurance

I dont think it was the postie, but probably the local paper deliver as couple of pamphlets were shoved into the letter box were it was clearly seen. Thing is its was sent regular mail. And my scales were sent via a shachel which is normally delivered at my door, so hopefully it will come tomorrow or monday.

well decided to pump one of my jars that has has surface collenesation for 2 days. Probably only do it to that one for an experiment. All except one have lots of think rizons (what ever t hey are called) ropes every were. Which is taking its time to fully collenize (one of the ones were I injected into the center of the cake because i had spores left over ) Also they have all shrunken HEAPS, more than what i was expecting. Aswell as moving the jars into a warmer spot, temps range from 25-27now instead of just above 20.

Couple of jars are at about 80-90%, should i turn them upside down even if there still going strong? Also wont takening them out of the jars when there not fully colonized introduce contams?

Well its been a couple of days and it seems they are all germinating one has been quarantined due to a suspect looking spot, but still growing.

water was 1/2 up the glasses (bottom ones), they were stacked on top of each other (alternating (ie one glass stood on two bottoms ones.). Hmm so maybe thats the problem

They were put in up right, the glasses are some cheapies picked up at crazy clarks. Just under 1 cup. Was really annoyed because a trial run with just sand and it worked fine. (Although it did only run for 10mins, these were put in for 40mins)
