It looks like I'll be be coming this time around. How could I not after the last adventure. I'll have to see if I can bribe a couple of other member to come as well.

You have a really nice garden mutant. It's obvious you have put in a lot of time. Keep it up.
-
I really like your Gymnos and Feros, they're looking great Mutant. Is that a Strombocactus near the start? It looks great! Many props for the strombo.

With growing slow cacti, they adapt to new conditions slowly too. From my experience, just by rotating an Ariocarpus it stopped growing for the rest of the year. I would avoid moving Lophs at all unless you have to. Pretty much like HN said, I think dormancy is crucial to the cycles of cacti, especially as far as flowering is concerned.

Hey Tripsis, can you post an new image of where you think the rot is?
-
I think it's a sign your doing something right. I don't think it will cause any issues in the future. What Tricho is it?
-
Kada, I feel your pain with that crest mate.
-
I dunno, I reckon the winning Loph is an ex-graft. You gotta be suspicious of of the cactus folk. Looks like it would have been a good show.
-
I found this interesting. Anyone have any feedback? Watch: Win Lo | Win Hi

I haven't done much degrafting either but I don't think it will be any harder than a normal offset. I'm sure you know the basics with this but maybe try a root hormone.
-
Nice plant Dr sanchez. I had one of my Turbs do this too. I'm not sure if its genetic. I think it might be something that happens directly because of grafting. But who knows You should chop it off and try to get going on it's own roots, it might have more value that way.

I'm sorry for you loss. I don't think it matters how you let them defrost, once the water content expands the cell walls are already ruptured. I feel your pain mate.
-
That's mantle piece material for sure. I would get if I were you.
-
Keep up the good work and keep us updated!

Looks like a pest has eaten into the vulnerable tissue and made a home to me. Maybe a grub or a caterpillar, tis' the season after all. Looking closer though, I think it's most likely some sort of rot as you said. The new growth is promising. I have nightmares that my plants are rotting from the inside out. For all I know so many of my plants maybe dead already, there's just no to tell until it's too late.

Tell Nat that the fish tasted amazing. PD did a great job with preparation and cooking it. Also tell her that after the guys tried and tried again, she caught the first and last fish.

In the way of graphics novels, anything by Alan Moore is great.. The watchmen obviously. If you liked the movie then the book will blow your mind. This one comes highly recommended. It raises the question of morality in regards to a vigilantly and the right to enforce it upon others. It also depicts society's reactions to the events in the book very well too.

Anything by the Coen brothers and Terry Gilliam, especially Brazil. Ghost in the shell series, Akira, Naked Lunch, District 9, Magnolia, Final Fantasy: Avent Children, Total Recall, Aliens Series, The Goonies, The City Of Lost Children, Blade Runner, Planet Terror, Dawn Of The Dead, Amelie, Silent Hill, Tank Girl, Shaolin Temple, Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle, Ninja Scroll, El Topo, The Holy Mountain, The Emarald Forest, The Abyss, Dogma are some I can think of now.

Thanks again PD. I look forward to the next one. I had a great time. I haven't felt that relaxed in a long while.

Link This made me laugh but now I'm actually considering getting it just for novelty. What do you do you guys think?

I've recently been given the opportunity to submit 4-5 bio samples to be looked at through an electron microscope and have images taken for free. I was thinking of doing some interesting pollen or fungi spores. I posted here as I don't want to restrict ideas to being along the lines of what I've already mentioned. Does anyone have any good ideas on what might be worth submitting. I'm kind of looking for something that hasn't been taken heaps before as I don't want to waste this chance. I was thinking to do a series of Psilocybe sp for comparison. My fungi knowlege isn't great but in this case what might be a good selection to look at?

I like the idea of using a PC to schedule watering, heat and light. It would be cool to also have temp and humidity log. This idea would probably be better on a commercial scale, but I can dream.
