  1. Such a horrible tradgedy,

I love old books and have a thing for collecting esoteric and exotic books myself so to hear of such a magnificent collection being destroyed really does bring tears to my eyes, let along the fact it was terrence's own collection :worship: .

Interesting to hear Dennis has an index, I would love to read it.

If you watch the last interview you can see a small part of the collection in the lefthand side of the footage How i wish i could have touched, and smelt the books, and read...

oh well the transiense of material things...

  2. Hi people,

Peter Greenaway, while not specifically drug films, use a lot of amazing symbology, and his cinematography is simple quite stunning..

    I think the main ones:

Prospero's Books. Mad mad film, amazing sets, amazing overlays, the whole human knowledge thing re books...

Z and two noughts. bent. the sped up decay sequences are amazing.

    are certainly worth watching.

The thing with greenaway is some of his scenes can be very shocking, and mind bending, i.e. why i'm not including "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover".

    cheers, Obtuse

  3. Its sad to hear stories like this. My heart goes out to Annabele's family and friends.

and unfortunately "Good Vibes" will be tainted by the death which is unfortunate.

It will be interesting to see what the autopsy report says, but if it does not affirm the media conclusion they will probably ignore it anyway, and continue the negative hype against E and the scene.

Some years ago i had a friend who died after a hard nights drinking at the pub, and then at a party. She passed out, threw up and chocked on her own vomit. It was seen as an unfortunate accident, and a lesson to all those around us to be more responsible when drinking. There was no media backlash against the pub, or alcohol in general (there was no media involvement at all). It makes me wonder about our culture and where we put the blame.

  4. Going through my book collection,

I found my copy of "altered states". who'd ever thought it was based on a book. I certainly didn't till i found this a couple of years ago.

There is also a film verion of hesse's Siddartha, really good film if you like the books. I found it fairly accurate to the book, they had obviously thought about their script.

Not a drug film as such, but nice film to watch nonetheless.

  5. And Don't forget FANTASIA (1940).

Probably the original tripper movie. The whole point of the film being Synesthesia.

That scene with the mushrooms dancing around - they look a little bit too much like gold tops to me. then in another scene they look like amanita muscaria.

I remember hearing some story about how Disney was into lsd... and then he was a good friend of Dali too.

The first 2/3 is amazing, there are a couple of boring bits, and the last bit is a blast.

I don't know if it counts but Barfly (1987) is also worth a mention, while its about alcohol, it presents are very interesting viewpoint on the way in which Bukowski lived his alcoholism.

    cheers, Obtuse

  6. Yeah what a blast.

my dad had "Los Cochinos" and "Big Bambu". They were soooooooo funny.

unfortunately they went on to do those films. although the one where the guy turned into lizard (very Hunter S.) was pretty good.

    Thanks for the links Ed.

  7. I Noticed you included "The Committee" because of the pink floyd soundtrack, in which case you have to include the others:

Tonite Let's All Make Love in London (1967)

    More (1969)

    Zabriskie Point (1970)

    La Vallée (1972)

    Live at Pompeii (1972)

    The Wall (1982)

    and:

The "wizard of oz" with the "dark side of the moon" dubbed over the original audio track.

Pink Floyd also did loads of documentary soundtracks. including one on fractals called "The Colors of Infinity" (actually it was only david gilmour)

    Also, Beatles films:

    Magical Mystery Tour (1967)

    Yellow Submarine (1968)

    still thinking...

  8. Cool,

Altered states (1980) - ordinary scientest turns mad scientist researching effects of lsd in floatation tank.

Dead Man (1995) - w/- Johnny depp - peyote use, very nice black and white sequence.

2001 (1968) - just because of the 15 minute sequence

Steppenwolf (1974) - based on herman hesse's book - no drugs but definitely a tripper film.

Chappaqua (1966) - Semi-autobiographical story of Conrad Rooks, who travels to France to undergo a drug-withdrawal cure. soundtrack by Ravi Shankar, v. cool

    And of course

    Naked Lunch (1991)

    Drugstore Cowboy (1989)

    I'll think of more later

    cheers, Obtuse

    for books like:

    LSD - My Problem Child

The Road To Eleusis: Unveiling the Secret of the Mysteries

    Remembrances of LSD Therapy Past

    Storming Heaven

also perouse their links page for even more stuff: http://www.maps.org/links.html

otherwise look for torrents - the best i have seen so far is "Psychedelic_Visionary_Plants_Sacred_Weeds_Salvia_200603"

its 8 something Gb, but boy is it worth getting. I found it about 6 months ago, and still havent finished going throught it. i reckon another 6 months.
