    Might be something different altogether, but these remind me of what we used to call burrawang nuts.

    As kids we used to risk being spiked by the leaves and scruff around in the leaf litter under the plants looking for fallen nuts. They used to rattle a bit in their shells which was cool. 

    I think they might be Macrozamia sp. and I've heard that they're quite poisonous. 

    Beautiful plant!
