Interesting! Have you considered giving Aspirin a go? Asprin mixed with water and foliar sprayed in the early morning has been shown to increase plant size and yield in vegetable and ethno gardens alike. Acetylsalicylic acid is the active ingredient in Aspirin and is derived from Salicylic Acid, which is naturally found in Willow Bark among others. It works exceptionally well on any plant in the Nightshade family. Let us know how your experimentation goes - you might be onto something here. Love & Light ∞

Welcome. I greet you in the Love and Light. Natural pesticides are a cheaper and often safer alternative to commercially manufactured products. It is not old fashioned to formulate your own products, rather it is a smart use of the natural resources that are often readily available. I especially like natural products that don't necessarily kill but instead make my plants so unpalatable that the so-called pests simply pack up shop and move on. No loss of life, plants are happy, I'm happy - problem solved. Here are a few recipes I've come across. This is not an exhaustive list so please feel free to contribute and add your own recipes, tips and tricks. NATURAL PESTICIDE RECIPES Neem (Azadirachta indica) Recipe: Collect mature seeds, wash and remove the husk, and allow to dry completely. Take 40 grams of seeds and grind them into a fine powder. Mix the powder in 1 litre of water and soak overnight. Strain the liquid and apply using a spray bottle. Used as a fungicide, nematicide and bactericide. Custard Apple (Annona squamosa) Recipe: Collect 100g of seeds and dry. Grind into a fine powder. Mix with 4 litres of water and soak overnight. Chili Peppers (Capsicum frutescens) Recipe: Collect 50g of chilies and dry. Grind into a fine powder, taking extra care not to touch your penis, rub your eye, pick your nose or inhale the dust. Mix with 1 litre of water and soak overnight. Tobacco (Nicotiana rustica) Recipe: N. rustica contains 9x more nicotine than other species making it ideal as a pesticide. Collect healthy, fresh leaves which are free of spots. During flowering the leaves are at their strongest. Mix 80 grams of whole dry leaves with 1 litre of water and soak for two days. Best applied in the early morning before sunrise due to its volatile nature. CAUTION: Nicotine is toxic, do not breath the vapours or allow spray to drift onto the skin. Pyrethrum (Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium) Recipe: The active ingredient is found in the flowers. Collect only fully opened flowers. Mix 100 grams of dried flowers in 1 litre of water and soak for one day. Garlic (Allium sativum). Recipe: Finely grate 1 bulb of garlic and mix with 1 litre of water. Its effect on the plant lasts only for 1-3 days after applying it. Love & Light ∞

Some info on targets for custard apple solution can be found here: http://www.oisat.org/control_methods/plants_in_pest_control/custard_apple.html For rats: Try peppermint oil spray or fresh mint leaves scattered around the plant. Rodents hate that smell. I’ve also heard sprinkling kitty litter near your plant with cat piss in it deters rodents as they think there is a cat about. For possums: 1x cup of molasses into a litre of water sprayed onto the plant is said to be effective. They also hate the strong smell of mothballs. I’d try the mothballs first. For Bandicoots: they hate strong ammonia smells so maybe some chicken poop or dynamic lifter around the plant will keep them away. For kangaroos: an old bloke taught me that simply using 40cm tall bamboo stakes in the ground positioned in a triangle around the plant keeps them away. I’ve seen this first hand and was surprised how effective it was. Seems they are worried about shanking their eyes out when they feed. I hope that helps. 8

Hi MG, You can use the whole plant however if you specifically want anti parasitic effect use the ground up seeds only and place them into size 00 capsules. 2 capsules before bed on an empty stomach and a whole glass of water for a minimum of 7 days will have you pooping out all sorts of weird shit...literally. It disables the ability of the parasite to cling on and coats it in mucus and then makes its way towards your back door for expulsion. 2000mg/kg in rat experiments showed no toxicity. It’s fairly friendly to your body and bowels. Here is a good video demonstrating the seeds mixed with water so you can imagine what’s going on when you ingest it. The scientific literature varies widely as to dose and length of administration so please conduct your own research to determine what’s best for you and your body. Be cautious of info from anyone claiming to be a doctor (as in the video above) and peddling their own Mimosa Pudica capsules for sale. A little experiment to try. If you have multiple Mimosa pudica and zap just one of them with the piezo electric component of a lighter, it sends out a group signal and causes a defensive response in all of the other surrounding plants. This plant is very interesting. One thing I was surprised to learn was the anti-parasitic qualities of consuming the seeds. This plant is basically the terminator of parasites in the human body.

PRICES - 1 x live 30cm plant for $20 - 1 x live 40cm plant for $25 - 1 x live 50cm plant for $30 Plus a flat fee of $10 for postage in a mailing tube with tracking number anywhere in Australia. Live plants are either 30cm, 40cm or 50cm in height, are approx 2-3 years old, organic, grown from seed and are bare-rooted for transport. Payments can be made via PayPal or in cash. Free pick up is also available from Brisbane. Interesting cash free trades and swaps also considered. GENERAL NOTES - Heimia salicifolia is a member of the Lythraceae family. - Common names for both the plant and the drink made from it is Sinicuichi or Sun Opener. - In Mexican folk medicine, Sinicuiche is regarded as a narcotic, inebriant, diuretic, and febrifuge. - Sinicuichi was used to make an intoxicating drink. - The leaves were slightly wilted, crushed in water and then allowed to ferment. - The strained liquid was then drunk to induce an altered state consisting of golden tinged vision and acoustic hallucinations. - Heimia salicifolia contains the quinolizidine alkaloids cryogenine, lythrine, heimine, sinicuichine and others. - The main alkaloid is cryogenine and is reported to have anticholinergic and antispasmodic effects. CARE & CULTIVATION - Propagation occurs through cuttings as well as tiny seeds. - The soil must be of a fine consistency. - The seeds are broadcast onto the soil and pressed in gently with a flat object. - The seeds should then be only moistened with a fine mist water sprayer. - The soil should be kept slightly moist until the seeds have germinated - The seedlings do not tolerate direct sunlight. - Only when they have developed their first true leaves can they be placed in the sun and watered thoroughly. - The soil should be allowed to dry out between waterings. - When transplanting, be aware that even very young plants develop large root systems - It thrives best in warm, dry zones and does not tolerate frost. MODERN PREPARATION METHOD Step 1: Gather whole plant material at sunset. Wash thoroughly. 25g of plant material is considered to be an effective psychoactive dose. Step 2: Strip 25g of leaves off the branches and soak in fresh cold water for 24 hours. Step 3: Using a large granite mortar and pestle, crush the slightly wet material thoroughly. Step 4: Place the crushed material into a sterilised glass Mason jar and top with alcohol. The amount and type of alcohol to use is at your own direction. Step 5: Place in direct sunlight for 7 days. Shake the jar frequently then open to release any gas build up. It is believed that during this period the Sun will impart its wisdom into the plant. Step 6: Strain all liquid from the plant material using a metal coffee filter, plunger or similar device. Step 7: Transfer the tincture to a dark medicine bottle for later use. I wish I had this level of skill but unfortunately my paintings look like something a dolphin would paint at Sea World. The Shamaness painting was done by an old school artist in Vietnam. It took me 3 days of negotiations for him to part with it. I'm not sure if you can see the brush strokes but they are next level. I've never seen anything like it. I had the framing guy offer to buy it off me when I brought it in and a customer that was in the store offered me an obscene amount after I had it framed.
