    Indoor Cacti - Lights

Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium lamps provide fast and robust growth, but also use lots of energy and get very hot, so don't let the cacti too near to the bulb or they will burn. They're not cheap, but they are worth it if you want to grow a lot of decent sized cacti under lights. The less pwerful flourescent alternatives can work great too, but imo they would be better for smaller plants/cacti, and smaller grow environments. For example, they're perfect for your trich seedlings or little lophs or grafts that you might grow on a stack of shelves in the garage. UTSE and you'll likely find more information, or failing that, google it, there's plenty of info out there.

    Dec.29/30th flowering

lol! I would think so! On topic, i've had a few flowers open the last couple of nights, though not all at once, seems like they're spreading themselves out or something. Will take some pics later.

    Flowers!

Cool, thanks mate! The plot thickens! I shall compare your images to the variants i have received under the name roseii. EDIT: After reviewing your images and comparing to my plants, the long spined variant is the same plant as i first received under that name a number of years ago, and quite dissimilar to the variety i received a year or two ago. Is the short spined variant you posted an actual different cactus, or is it the same plant with different growth characteristics due to growing environment etc? Also, does it happen to grow more slender than the long spined variant?

    Flowers!

Hey PD, awesome photos/flowers! Was wondering if you'd be so kind as to post some pics of the roseii plant you have to see what it really looks like, as many people have claimed to have roseii and they've all looked different.
  5. I thought terschekii was the giant of the group, and pasacana grew smaller in height. I have a pasacana growing for a little over a year now, and it's very slow growing, thought the nursery i bought it from had some larger plants of it for sale in the past that were around 1 metre high, at its current rate of growth it's looking like it will take quite some time before it reaches such a height. Perhaps this slow rate of growth could account for lack of community knowledge of such plants. Perhaps some older cactus growers (those who've been at it for 30+ years) might have more to tell on the subject.

    Lophophora in the ground

If you're putting them in the ground i'd choose partly shaded, so they get sun in the morning and are shaded from the hot afternoon sun. You can plant them at any size, but the bigger the better. Use a well draining soil/mix, the mix i suggested can be used in ground easily. A bigger plant will have better chances of surviving a wet shock. If they're likely to get too wet at any stage throughout the year, perhaps it is best to keep them in pots so they can be moved around if necessary.

    Some New Family Members

Nice catch! Funky looking cacti! On that type of pachanoi you'll often see branching higher up. There's a big plant near me that grows like, it's massive, plus it's a fast growing and robust variety. Propogate that beauty!

    Cacti of Matucana

Thanks for posting the images trucha. Definitely lends credence to Knize's Matucana KK242. Awesome looking plants, great to see.

    Lophophora in the ground

What are you growing it in atm if not soil? I grow mine in pots that are about 3 times the diameter of the button, with 1:1:1 ratio of cacti potting mix: perlite: 10 mm crushed scoria. They're happy like this. Maybe mix in some slow release fertiliser granules when planting, and maybe a little charcoal if they're likely to get wet a lot.

    Dec.29/30th flowering

I've got a few dozen pachanoi flowers ready to open tonight by the looks of it, and plenty more still on their way, both pc pach and og pach. Should be a sight to behold.

    Nice looking blue cactus

It looks strikingly similar to pachanoi x macrogonus i have in my collection. Though naming it peruvianus seems quite just. I also have another plant that came to me as a macrogonus that looks quite similar. The plants at collectors corner can be quite good at times, if somewhat pricey, being retail and all. I've picked up some good finds from there in the past, and remember seeing a plant similar to this on their shelf a while back, not quite as blue though. A nice change from their previous selection of KK242 looking peruvianus' they generally had for sale. Keep an eye out for their bridgesii, i found a couple of nice ones there earlier in the year too.

    Pedro Growth rate

Pedro's will grow 1 - 2 feet per year in melbourne, dependant upon the size and root base of the plant in question. An established 2 - 3 foot pedro will grow 1 1/2 to 2 feet over the course of a growing season. The bigger the plant, the more it'll grow. I've used Yates Thrive - Cacti & Succulents liquid fertiliser with some degree of success over this past growing season, the cacti love it, and put off nice new healthy growth but it doesn't quite provide the super boost that i get from using Miracle Grow, they love it even more! The Amgrow cacti & succlent potting mix is alright, but it could be better, i've been using the Debco Cacti & Succulent Potting Mix this past growing season with phenomenal success. The cacti love it, and mixed up with some perlite and scoria and a bit of slow release osmocote granules chucked in the mix it makes for a super cosmic combination, resulting in super happy, super cosmic cacti! Hope this helps. Good luck growing.

    My newest additions (Image Heavy)

Wow! That's some amazing penis action! :drool2: I love it! :worship: Gives me something to picture in my mind as to what my own penis plants will be looking like in a year or two's time, thanks for the inspiration benzito, just amazing, so beautiful. :innocent_n: :shroomer: Out of interest, i was thinking of placing some of my tbms under hps lighting over winter as i have many that have pupped recently and would like to grow the pups out over winter in time for spring, has anyone had any experiences specifically with tbms under hps lighting, any helpful hints or suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated. :scratchhead:

    Pedro pup

Hey Conan Troutman, i also have an couple of pedro stumps that have been laying around in my room for a while and have devloped little baby pups like yours complete with their own roots, what i normally do with them is what everyone has been suggesting, let them grow a while whilst on the stump and then once about 10 - 15 cm in height i detatch them and root them on their own, the longer you leave them to grow on the stump the faster they will take off once you put them on their own roots, as the more photosynthetic capability the pup will have to turn sunlight into new growth. Hope this helps, peace.

To cut the mother or the pup?

Hey puffingfish, if you make your cut flat it will promote more pupping, if you cut it on an angle it is likely to pup less as it will pup from the highest aeriole, a flat cut ensures there are multiple aerioles at the same height in relation to the newly forming callous. The consensus on here of late is that planting horizontally is a waste of time, not resulting in any more pups than having planted the same pieces vertically. You will not need to treat the exposed cut(s) with anything, as long as they are allowed to callous and dry sufficiently they will be perfectly fine on their own. Good luck, don't worry too much, cacti wants to grow and it will do pretty much anything it can to ensure that it continues to grow, cutting back a big plant will just mean you have two or three bigger plants next year.

    anyone have nonbridgesii dark exps?

*Cough*  Brus, i'm pretty sure you just re-desribed exactly what i already said but from your own point of perception, doesn't sound like people are all that radically different after all, in fact it sounds like we are all quite similar and transit through similar levels of awareness as we process and transcend our ego's raising our consciousness to higher vibrations and into alignment with our highest truth. The heavy mind and body feelings are the cleansing and purification of all that is less than light in your systems, this is the ego disolusion processs that i am alluding too, the letting go of attatchment to the mind and body, to the idea and sense of self we have and that we associate with our bodies, letting go of all that so that we may elevate ourselves high enough to see ourselves for the godly beings we truly are. You are not the only one to mention having dark experiences from bridgesii, but being that the idea is such a contrast to my own experiences i was interested to hear the other side of story so to speak and see why people are perceiving something i perceive as pure light to be dark or "sinister". I'm not sure why you found my response "meaningless and almost offensive", i would think it is this very radical difference between our experiences that would prompt you, and i, to investigate this topic further, as was my intention. :scratchhead:  Peace.

    Can anyone ID this Trich

Harry, That is very true with dosage guidelines, one dose is never enough, two is always a good start, hehe, three or four, now that's where the real excitement begins, hehe.  I may have a small section of pach i could arrange, but i am low on spare stock of it to trade atm, so it'd have to be something pretty tantalising on offer. Let me know, drop me a pm if you'd like, cheers. Peace.

    Can anyone ID this Trich

Yes it is a lot of cactus, but it's well worth when you eat so much, or so i've heard. 15cm of pach is not what i would consider a dose, i would consider it half a dose, a barely threshold experience, assuming we are of course referring to the so called backberg clone of trichocereus pachanoi, 15cm of which isn't gonna do much unless it's 50 years old and shade grown, then it'll be quite a nice experience, i'm sure. Were it of course one of the real trichocereus pachanoi's then yes 15cm could be considered a dosage, but that's because the real pachanoi is a whole fuck load stronger than the backberg clone. I would say it's not uncommon for people to eat 2 to 4 feet of pachanoi in a sitting, so why so much surprise that you'd eat just as much spachianus to achieve the desired effects?

    Can anyone ID this Trich

The journey lasts about 7 - 8 hours, with a large dose, with a 10 - 12 hour afterglow similar to other cactus, or so my gnome tells me, he would speculate that at the levels most people dose on for any given cactus that it would be common for their journies to last only 4 - 6 hours, as my gnome friend tells me he likes big doses, usually two to three times what the average cactus user would measure out as a dose, this would be due to his close connection to the cactus and his zest for adventures of the cosmic kind.

    anyone have nonbridgesii dark exps?

What are these dark experiences from bridgesii you speak of? I have only ever experienced an abundance and out pouring of divine love and light from bridgesii. Is it perhaps the hardcore ego disolusion that the bridgesii propels you through? I have seen friends get quite confused and lost during this period of rapid transition, paranoia would be one way of describing it, anxiety or apprehension too. I would like to hear more thoughts on this.... Choirs of angels or circles of hell? The choice is yours, fuck yeah! Unity or seperation? You decide!
  24. I saw this website a while back and was equally suspect of its claims, i searched around and found some forum postings on a garden website mentioning the website and debunking it as the fraud it is. If you want a decent cactus fertiliser, yates makes a Thrive Cacti & Succlents Fertiliser, which is quite good, my cacti have responded well to it this season with healthy lush growth following each dosing, i have also used Mircacle Grow with great success, vigorous new growth following each dosing.

    Can anyone ID this Trich

I know a gnome. He would tell you that the experience was akin to travelling through astral realms, very dreamy, very lucid at times, but characterised by an other wordliness, similar to some san pedro experiences but quite different at the same time, feels like cactus is the best way to describe it, a really trippy cactus. Dreamlike quality is the most distinguishing feature to the experience, leaving you with a crystaline clarity in the peak following the come up and the proceeding afterglow, similar to san pedro, less intellectual/mind trip, more body high/experience, but moderately stimulating in these areas, would attribute this to the reported less favourable alkaloid profile of the cactus.
