new years eve 2015. whats on your mind.

this thread indeed read a bit better with a little disco I am curious. do you still have a santa, that comes in middle of summer? a xmas tree , presents for the kids and all that shit? amanita muscaria decorations, and the like? ps: paradox, your awesome man
  2. I am not sure about all vars but I have found lophophoras root surprisingly easy when grafted off a pump and actively growing graft, as long its warm and all... But most of what I have rooted was caespitosa, but not all... so when you try to to it, better be in the middle of the growing season. and yeah with such a huge head, when it roots, watering must be very sparse and medium freedraining, like zelly said.. or better, dont water at all if you dont make sure it has enough roots.. let its size work for you... its doable but I havent done it in such a big head.. what is it, 10 cm wide? but burrying the whole stock is also and option, you can use stones to fill the stock space to prevent its rot.. this propably the best less fussy option, I've done it with an asterias graft on selini and it works wonders

heh its strange, because its a northern hemishere shit like I have said before, its like australia has inherited some of USA retardedness btw it seems I am getting some negative vibes from some sabbers, because I have in the past said anti-american shit I will say anti greek things any day any time and well, the retardedness of nationalistic fanatism has no country setting modern capitalist and mostly usa-oriented consumerism mentality stuff aside essentially x-mas in the religious sense was invented to fight the largest celebration in the northern hemishere before fucking christianity and it was a Sun god which was worshipped. more and more I sense that modern takes on religion a la monotheism were the most ancient means of mass homo control. and in the broader homo sense that we all are, I dont exclude the denisovan, neanderthal, and possibly erectus gene. may we have a fabulous and full of intrigue and adventure year! PS: paradox you are not taking it too seriously.... its the essence of philosophy when you just fucken wonder: "WTF am I doing here?" luv u man cheers
  6. Pregabalin is amazing in pain management. I have a 7mm herniated disc slip. Its also reported to be effective in bad cases of chronic pain, mainly of neuropathetic nature. As an analgesic its amazing. Not to mention other uses like in epilepsy and generalised / chronic anxiety among them. There are side-effects though Memory problems, sedation, loss of coordination are all commonly reported as negative effects. Most of it fades as the body is getting used. There is also potential for abuse as one of the possible sideeffects is euphoria and in chronic cases there are tolerance and addiction issues to be considered. Plus its not so cheap if your health care doesnt cover it or most of it.

    Tbm & Tpm from seed

a pic ? tell us about the glands! I remember seeing some awesome specimens you grew from that seed
  10. Leaving aside the more specific examples like T.bridgesii and T.pachanoi monstrosa forms discussed in their own threads TPM thread http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=42379&hl= TBM thread http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=41050&hl= I am very interested to understand the sequence of some monsters, I suspect there is a sequence, at least in some of them, accepting that the habitat remains the same. Cutting seems to interrupt the cycles and more importantly the location of the cuttings seems to play a role to the sequence the new cutting is gonna play out. These are hypotheses. Based on observations of growth. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sport_%28botany%29 these are cuttings from two monsters from oz. only one of each three seems to be really crest, the others seem to have reverted. its interesting because i havent seen pachanoi monsters that revert to normal. Makes you wanna collect every fuckin possible clone, lol. What I ultimate understand is that these behaviours and habits depend on each diffent occasion of monstrosity, maybe because monstrosities themselves have different causes. another example Stenocereus marginatus crest with two reverts, and dichotomous reverts rooted. I wonder... If this Revert grows tall and flower, and fertilised and produce seed, would it carry the monstrosa gene? same with these I cut and rooted them off a crest plant, dont remember the name.. Would they ever revert? Dont know why I find this so interesting.. make you wonder, no?

my guesses 2 - peruvianus or peruvianusXpachanoi intermediate 4 - peruvianus 6 - pachanoi (x ?) 5 doesn't look bridgesii at all. Another pachanoi hybrid?

    Tbm & Tpm from seed

I think these come from the TBMC. It is really a varied plant. And at the end, it all comes to what part you cut, root and sell on the ebay. these spineless, wider crests are quite pretty and distinct.
  13. Very cool! I see you're using smartpots with trichos. What your experience? is it worth it or the soil dries out too fast?

I also wonder how the sport concept would suit this clone. Is the cresty part a sport? That is, the crest reverts to normal, but not vice versa?

I know its a single and problematic photo, still I have reasons why I want you to throw a couple guesses at me.. Any ideas?

    Tricho ID

mine is pretty small, also the hyperpropagative mofo in me took 3 cuttings off it and rooted, only one is a crested part. its being repotted next season, couple months from now. that mother is amazing. I find it a pretty distinctive and pretty crest, perfect patch to a pachanoi crest . Maybe if left to grow in full sun it might increase spine size...

    Tbm & Tpm from seed

bingo. that's what mine do. note that in one occasion a graft on a pretty strong and wide bridgesii stock resulted in pretty fat penises. Kykeion, it seems we have more or less the same project in mind, cool! I am convinced that there are two forms TBMC. Both Olive's and Philocacti's specimens seem to be the cresty, more spiny type, unlike mine. I suppose that's what the tbc & tbmc mystical oyster meant. Besides Zelly has also shown off the two forms side by side in the other bridgesi specific thread it seems the TBC cresty/spiny might be the dominant clone in OZ. In europe its vice versa.

its a "Hammiltons crest" reverted tip . wanted you to answer cuzco.
  19. now here's an hypothetical example: if we were to spoil this wonderful column of alternate growth, and take a cutting, I say it would be a very different result cutting the red from cutting the orange part. the results include the type of pups produced by the mother as well as the cutting... in the red occasion we would more likely have monster pups from the motherplant, and straight growth at the cutting after rooting while in the orange occasion we would more likely expect normal pups from the mother plant and monster growth from the cutting just saying... oh, the yellow arrows show the points when growth was slowed to the point of stunting

    Astrophytum thread

good old classic astro myrio. I got it 8 years, its been in clay pot all the time and exposed to the elements in winter. I wonder if the increase in ribs number is a way of the plant to ask me to put it in a bigger container.
  23. writing about them had me go to the roof to take more shots and eventually decided to take advantage of the cool dry winter time we're having at the area and cut some penises off a general view of my 4 mother tbmc shots of my pretiest and most decent shaped - these things grow in very strange ways two others, note at the right one the penis that grows horizontally, it actually grows onto the other segment and then changes growing direction almost 180 degrees! see cutting in next pics graft on bridgesii, example of how penises stunt the crest growth (removed) penises and crests cuttings rooted. today cuttings I am almost certain that these dicks will result into a form different from the typical short TBM. The penis formation seems different, and areoles are often in strangely high locations. two of the cuttings have a small part of crest body with a couple areoles. two others appear to be without areoles. melted wax semimonstrosa my biggest TBM (short form). note the roots developed in the right picture. I wonder if its because of the tendency to root so easily and in multiple points per pot, if we are talking about and older specimen, that it hesitates to flower. I dont know if the flowring thing is true for melted wax columnar too. But in a strange way it makes some sense to me. Indeed bridgesii in general easily make aerial roots (as seen in abandonded cuttings)

I would love to see photos of the non trichs when you have time. And let us know about the rooting times also! I have been wanting to get e.acida,
