    Germinating Caapi

I'm looking for advice based on personal experiences with germinating the three main Brazillian strains, Caupuri, Tucunacá and Ourinhos. I have done a bit of research, and a generalized overview is as follows. Seeds must be fresh, and lose viability fast. Sow seeds with the wing pointed upwards, 1/4 to 1/8 inch deep in rich well draining soil, whats usually reccomended is 25% perlite and sieved potting mix with a bit if course sand. Some recommend a bit of coco coir, and some recommend spaghnum moss at the top layer (not peat). A humid environment is required, so either a container or baggy method, with a sterilisation if the sowing medium before by microwave or oven. Daily venting is recommended, as it seems that fungus / mold is a big problem with caapi seeds, yet they need the humidity. Constant heat above 24C is needed, and there hasnt been any mention of day/night temperature cycles like cacti seeds need. I haven't read anything about light requirements for germination. I read a bit of others experiences with caapi and it didnt look promising, a lot of failure and difficulty, even with fresh seed. Most common was fungus/mold attacks, poor germination rates, and seedlings dying after germinating. I was wondering if any if the good people at SAB have any first hand experience germinating these three strains, and if they had any specific advice for a reliable method to follow. Thanks

west aussie's trade and sell thread

Well I just took 3 cuttings today and set them up in a humidity chamber. I haven't done this before so I don't know how long it will take until they are established, or if it will work. I've followed the kada method in perlite so hopefully I have success. I'll let you know when somethings ready for trade.

    Lesser known ethnobotanicals?

I've got a decently sized Sinicuichi plant but I'm still unconvinced of its ethnobotanical value. Each prune I've given has yielded no results. Still a nice looking little tree that is pretty undemanding to care for with loads of yellow flowers.

Nice 1 Ambient. Do you have a photo of the mother plant or any info on it? These look similar to a Peru that I already have but I'd like to see the tips and new growth for comparison. Cheers

Really interesting plant this one... It's always so bright green compared to everything else and those notches are pretty cool
  14. I've had pretty good results here and nowhere to put these guys as they get larger. I'd prefer trades, but I guess I could sell them if needed. 3 varieties, very healthy, lots of new growth and big leaves. Also have one Alicia Anisopetala seedling spare, the smaller one, second photo.

    Sowing seeds

I've used 3% and s little higher h2o2 with no negatives. It does turn the pumice rock brown after repeated treatments but this seems to be just a visual thing not to the detriment of the seedlings. Seedlings 2-3 months old when treated. Ive also just tried phosphorous acid to counter rust spots, will see how that goes
  20. Life changing experience - yes Change of path/goals - sort of, but path/goals are an external focus. The experience was more about what's "within". It awakened a peace and acceptance, and allowed new life obstacles to be approached differently. I didn't gain a sense of "what" to do, rather a sense of "how" to be. This can still frequently be forgotten when emotion/ego/self begin to distract from the moment. Regarding old goals vs new goals, perhaps you might consider relaxing the attachment to goals. Our modern world is very goal-oriented, we must always be doing something in order to have meaning. But meaning can be found in "being" as well as "doing". Perhaps if you release the pressure of having the correct goal, a path may reveal itself to you. look at it as your old way of perceiving everything and yourself vs your new way of perceiving everything and yourself. Life and health after life changing experiences - definitely better. Old aches and injuries disappeared, life long allergies gone, anxiety, fear and loneliness a distant memory.

    yearlings, a bit wobbly

Mate just use white vinegar lol. A teaspoon per 4 litres for me, but everyone's water is different and you have to pH test yourself. From my experience you can have a neutral to slightly alkaline substrate with acidic watering and cacti seem to love it. (Water adjusted to between 5-6pH)
