NZ Seed and plant trades - not buy and sell

Heya FTB, Ahh cool, I'm a little further up at Peria near Taipa which is a suburb of Kaitaia, the hotel california of New Zealand! I've been here since late 2015 and still trying to leave the place.. Your welcome to some red leaf Khat. I just have the two varieties now. Nice plants though. There are some that have been growing in the ground and a few backups in pots. I'll pass you one of each. And I'll throw in a Sally D cutting in too. Thanks heaps, I'm curious about your cactus collection.. I remember seeing those amazing specimens at the quarry gardens down there. Hopefully the cactus garden is still there after that awful flooding. So far I've been a bit wary of trying out the Hemia after reading that some people have had some painful side affects such as aching muscles. It's possible that their dosage was too high perhaps. I may try a small dose and see what happens. Or maybe not lol. The plants are very attractive as you will know. A couple have reached well over a meter and still growing. They have been hammered by the chickens, dog and our 2 year old son and still producing loads of seeds!

NZ Seed and plant trades - not buy and sell

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone is still using this thread... It looks like it's been a little while and I've not reached out for some time... I have some Hemia salcifolia seed, ' sun opener' hope that I spelt this right, to give away to anyone over here in NZ. Its time to give back. It's possible that I may have some small red leaf Khat offsets to give out soon. I just need to check the plants first. I'm in the far North of the North island now. Also anyone still growing Calea zakatechichi in NZ?

    Midgen Berry Austromyrtus dulcis -YUM!

I would be interested in growing this hybrid, sadly New Zealand has banned many Myrtle species including austromyrtus because of the myrtle rust. So my ones are particularly rare over here, maybe the only ones in cultivation over here. Some have began to flower earlier this week The window has been kept open occasionally to encourage pollination by insects. I have had a go with a chook feather, just in case

    Midgen Berry Austromyrtus dulcis -YUM!

This is couple or so years ahead now but I thought that I would share a photo of some of my austromyrtus dulcis. It is almost 5 weeks since this photo was taken and 5 of them have flower buds. It has taken them a year to get to this size, so I'm quite excited to have the possibility of trying the fruits.

    Pilea peperomioides

https://inaturalist.nz/taxa/125439-Pilea-peperomioides Hi all, I'm desperately looking for this plant. I can feel it calling me. I live in New Zealand and this plant is no longer allowed to be sold. There is a possibility that some people may still have it. I'm willing to pay top dollar for this really cool plant. I'm happy to pick it up whenever it may be. Fingers crossed that someone in this community or somebody they know still has it...

    I'm back!

Hi all, PlantHunter here. It's been almost three years (I think) since my last interaction with all you fellow plant people. I've been recovering from a head injury sustained from being hit by a motorist rushing for her afternoon latte while walking along a pedestrian crossing, after work back in Auckland. It kind of spoilt my day and set me back a bit. It has been a challenge in many ways and I'm now living up near Kaitaia (the murder capital of NZ ) thankfully out of town in a rural location in the suburb of Peria.. This place is the most Northern major settlement of the North Island in NZ. A great climate for growing cool ethno plants.. Now that I'm settled in my own place with my new partner of a year and a half, it is now time to put roots down and rekindle old connections and to make new friendships too I hope. Having long forgotten my old password and email address and unwilling to set up a new identity I kind of had given up hope of getting back on here as "PlantHunter". After one final try.. Well I'm back now after digging around old emails and experimenting with old passwords. If I owe anyone anything and or still not done anything that I said I would, like sending out seeds ect, then you all must let me know so that I can put it right. Well, apologies for the drivel folks and I look forward to getting in touch again to talk plants. PlantHunter..

    Sun opener imposter!

There must be some research about it somewhere. Shall have a dig around. They made it through a Northland winter, that's not particularly cold as such but they had to put up with a fair bit of standing water around their roots for several weeks. Tried uploading a photo and the it wouldn't work blah!

    Sun opener imposter!

Yes of course, a theoretical question naturally. I forgot the bit about the leaving them in the sun. Sounds better than 2 day old salad left in the back of the fridge. An interesting idea.

    Sun opener imposter!

Ahh. Got to get myself over there to visit those gardens. There is so much stuff growing at these gardens of interest to me. Never tried it as was unsure about soaking the leaves for so long, seems a bit like old salad leaves lol. If there is a different way maybe, do you soak yours or do something different?

    Sun opener imposter!

I knew that you would do well with them. your seed came from two parents plants out in my garden and they are flowering right now. The more space that you give them, the more they will become multi stemmed monsters! Which botanic gardens did you see them at?

    Sun opener imposter!

Just found this by chance. Yes it looks like a sneaky weed seed snuck in with the sun openers. They are looking great by the way.

    Searching for information?

When I used to be more frequent on this site, there was a practical helpful way of searching for information such as a particular species of plant, specific photo or any subjects that have been discussed. Has this been taken away? I doubt it but its seriously doing my head in looking for it. Could it be because I'm using my cell phone for the internet? But then and again that should make no difference... Please help me before I totally lose the plot lol
