    Post a random picture thread

The youngest cat is becoming quite the ratter. I heard Covid is causing a lot of rats to move out of their usual homes and into the suburbs looking for food.

What do you use sulphur for?

Wettable sulfur is a decent treatment for mites.

    Rocky cacti mix ins

For trichos, most specialty cactus mixes are probably overkill. You can grow trichos very happily in straight potting mix if you like, as long as it drains well and doesn't contain large pieces of bark/wood. I go pretty heavy with composted manure in my mix for trichos. I usually use a third potting mix (the mix I get is quite fine, no big chunks of bark, if your mix has big chunks, sieve them out), a third composted chicken manure and a third perlite. If I'm feeling fancy I'll add a bit of dolomite, and some palagonite (volcanic mineral). You'll have to work out what suits your climate though. My mix is probably too rich for places that have a long winter. My winter really only lasts for maybe 2 months where the plants go dormant. If you have a long cold wet winter, I'd probably lay off the manure a bit and add more drainage grit.

    takeaway tek alternatives

You can sow seeds in small pots and put them in a zip lock bag. Pretty much same idea as takeaway containers...

    Watch this space

It's a shame Sam Dastyari and David Lleyonhjelm both let us down with their off field antics.

    Is this Banisteriopsis variegeta ?

One of mine occasionally shows similar "variegation" but I kind of assumed it was due to some type of leaf miner or insect attack.
  8. Sorry if this upsets anyone's sensibilities, but I've been thinking about this a lot in the last few days. We are all going to die at some point. We probably all have different views on what happens to us after death. I'm interested in the topic of pre-death rituals, and the treatment of our bodies in this thread mostly, but happy for it to be a more generalised place for people to post about anything related to the topic. Pretty much all religions of the world have some form of "last rites", and a proscription of what to do with the body. Mostly this involves burial or cremation. Personally, I don't think I want to be buried, I have various reasons for that. I think I'd like to be cremated and my ashes sent out on the waves. Maybe that's asking for trouble, the ocean is restless, in constant motion. Does that sound like eternal peace? I don't know. I do take solace from the ocean, it is always in my consciousness, I don't think I could live away from it. But what about pre-death? I guess if life is taken suddenly and without warning, there's not much you can do to prepare. What do you have in mind as your own "last rites"? This one might be the most important thing to put thought into. So many people end up in a hospital deathbed, and at that point, decision making is taken away from the dying. This is a tragedy. My father in law laid dying in hospital, and said he just wanted one last beer. Nobody took this request seriously, and I don't think I'll forgive myself for not running out and getting him one. I mean, FFS, what is the worst that could have happened? He was literally about to die. What happens to me if I shun the last rites of the religion I was raised in? A broken circle is never usually a good thing. But I don't want to be treated as one of the flock, I'm not a sheep. Do I need to renounce the religion beforehand to close that loop?

    Rapé Recipes Thread

Mint is always a welcome addition to rapé in my opinion. I'm inspired to make some more blends.

    Smoking Acacia fimbriata

You might find vaping isn't very effective unless you can get the temp up reasonably high. A lot of the harmala type compounds vaporize at higher temps than tryptamines and other compounds. Worth a try though I guess.

Posting Khat Suckers and a Potted Button

For plants with bare roots (not cactus) I wrap the roots in a damp paper towel, then again in a plastic bag. Cactus you will want to keep dry, paper scrunched up works well.
  13. Slight change of direction from your usual fare Sagi, but there are some awesome comedies too. Check out "Death in Brunswick" starring Sam Neill and featuring the late comedic legend John Clarke. https://images.app.goo.gl/LPBGxHYvngFt5ys37 And to really understand the Australian sense of humour you need to watch "The Castle" if you haven't already. It's pure understated brilliance.

  15. Humboldt beat me to it with Bliss, such an amazing film.
  16. Recently I have been experiencing visitations by birds on a daily basis. Most notably magpies, but also king parrots and crows. One magpie in particular is now so comfortable that he will eat from my hand. I call him Claude. King parrots are also making daily visits. Crows watch from a distance but are very vocal. This is a new occurrence that started a month or so ago, and it seems to hold some importance, but I'm not sure what to make of it. Magpies seem to be associated with a message to focus on spiritual pursuits rather than material ones (I'm hardly a materialistic person so I think there's something I'm missing). Parrots are associated with the need to be watchful and alert. These are the typical associations in dreams anyway. But my visitations are physical, so I wonder if there is more to the picture. Does anyone have any experience with bird visitation and their symbology?

Qat - how many days from flowers to seed?

Mine took about 6 weeks before the pods opened up, give or take.

    Spach crosses please!

My understanding is that spach is a difficult one to cross as it is self fertile. So how do you ensure the flowers don't self pollinate?
  19. Check if any root grubs are in the pots. I lost tray after tray a couple of years back, the culprit was curl grubs. Not sure if you get them out there...
  20. I use eco neem, it's water based. Not the straight up neem seed oil, that does tend to burn.

Cactus of the month year day thread? Which cactus is really shining for you right now?

Chavin de Huantar is doing it today. But "Tipz" macro x Peru "Norma" (seeds from @zed240) is also throbbing.

Woah! What time period does this series cover?

    Lost the label

I've got plants that look very similar. I grew them out of seed from eBay in maybe 2013, which I bought as Ecuadorian pachanoi.

Dchiw you're all set to have a nice vape and the battery is flat halfway through warmup. Dagnabbit.
  25. Spent the morning weeding all my pots, and didn't even get (badly) stabbed today! I'll have the most pampered cactus collection ever by the end of this lockdown!
