  1. My recent loph graft seems to be surviving after a week or so, and I was feeling lucky so I decided to attempt a peres graft of a roseii #1 seedling with a very pale complexion. Hoping for some variegation...
  2. Chips and cardboard are colonising nicely after a week. Everything's looking good! It's a healthy strain, very rhizomorphic growth. A powerful ally.
  3. Howdy mycophiles and mycophages, Thanks to a very generous friend I have come into possession of a bucket of colonised woodchips, and I'd like to propagate this spawn to more buckets before I kick off my outdoor patch. I've read that summertime temps (eg 30ish degrees c) are fine for colonisation as far as subs go, but does anyone have an opinion as to whether they might be happier if a little cooler? I have them mixed up in layers in a tub with uncolonised chips and damp cardboard, then bagged and stored in my garden shed. I might be able to keep them 5 or more degrees cooler if they are kept under the house in the middle of the day but I have mo experience as to whether the mycelium will run better when warmer or cooler. As far as my intended patch, it's in perpetual shade, but I don't know whether to dig out the grass first before spreading the chips into beds or if there is any advantage in leaving some grass. I've read that there may be beneficial relationships with grasses when fruiting. Again, any advice from the experienced would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Ghosts of the civil dead. If you haven't seen it, it's a classic prison movie, nick cave makes a pretty disturbing cameo.
  5. Not much chance of sterility, the gift of chips were dug out of my friend's home patch. They're well and truly inoculated and I'm mixing maybe 1:2 ratio of spawn to new chips to try to get good speedy colonisation and minimise the chances of contams.
  6. Thanks, I appreciate the advice. So would you leave the tub uncovered with air exchange (albeit limited airflow) or leave it bagged up to retain humidity?

    Chilli peppers - Aus

I've got a bottle of special sauce I've been holding onto, it has about a kilo of nagabons cooked down into 500ml. It's made grown men cry.

The choco is a habanero, it's probably my favourite. Ripping heat and such a great flavour. I'm a bit low on seeds at the moment, I have bhut seeds, but sounds like you have them already. Many of my seeds got all mixed up so I'm not really sure what's what until they grow out and fruit...

    Chilli peppers - Aus

I use jiffy pellets and pretty much always have good results. I've heard people doing an acidic water soak first to stimulate germination. Warmth will get them going. I had to cut back on my chilli cultivation to make room for other botanicals, I got a bit carried away for a few years, and there's only so many kilos of pods you can eat in a year when they're all over 600000 scovilles!

    Discovery: San Pedro avoids light

Update: cacti that have put out basal pups have shown a distinct habit of leaning away from the location of the pups to make room for them to grow presumably.

Has this Acacia confusa suddenly gone varigated?

You can add some bacterial starters to the soil to unlock the nutrients already in there. Feed the soil, not the plant is sometimes the way to go.

    Acacia seed pod collection.

Half the problem is getting to them before the cockatoos get them. At least iny neck of the woods anyway...

  15. Forgot to mention, seeds came interbeing...
  16. My rosei open pollinated seedlings are still very small, much slower than all the other trichs I started at the same time. Some of them are very very pale, almost to the point of albinism, which I suspect is a reason for their growth rate, they just can't photosynthesize efficiently. I'm trying to get some peres to graft some time give them a chance.
