  1. Hey guys,

I've been out of the country for over a year and left a mate to care for my cacti. Most made it but a few were neglected and are yellowing or missing the identification labels. I was hoping those of you with a more experienced eye could help me confirm their identities.

    A few I know are normal T. Pachanoi, and there should be a skyboat as well, but I had a t.patch crossed with a SS02 and a T. Bridgesii x SS02.

Any confirmations I can get from you guys would be great, it's going to be a long process to nurse them back to health.

    Cheers :)

  2. I'm interested in purchasing a few cacti this season to multiply but I have very limited space so I need to choose wisely. Based on demand and entheogenic qualities which would you recommend from the following list:

    T. Bridgesii

    T. Bridgesii X SS02

    T. Bridgesii True Blue

    T. Bridgesii Semi-Mons

    T. Pachanoi

    T. Pachanoi Skyboat

    T. Peruvianus

    T. Peruvianus X T.Macrogonus

    Ayacucho

    Omar X T.Peruvianus

    SS01 X SS02

  3. I recently developed an interest in ethno plants and with the help of this community managed to ID a 10-15 yr old Scop. The previous owner called her "Sol" (hence my username, I was hoping to find its origins in this community). Seeing it's Spring I've begun propagating it a bit to give it room to grow and flower.

I've got around a couple dozen cuts which is a bit too much for me so I thought I'd share some with you guys. The cuts range from 25 cms to 65 cm tips and everything in between. I'm interested in swapping for any other trich's, lophs or interesting ethno's.

Pick up is preferable but I can also post. I do want the swap to be in W.A though as I don't feel comfortable receiving parcels interstate. I'm open to selling if you're outside of W.A.

    Feel free to PM me.

  4. @Foo sure man, I'll definitely start doing some cuts this spring of the new branches that look really healthy and leave the mother where she is to begin propagation. Is there any good guides for performing the cuts? Like length the cuts should be? how much to cut without stressing too much the mother? and where in the branch to cut it? (in the really long branches there's a curve connecting to the main branch that might be a problem when trying to pot as it won't keep up right).

@DiscoStu I'll try get my hands on a roseii, shame my collection is limited at the moment.

@Evil Genius haha I'll take a better shot and this time rotate it so he doesn't get neck cramps. I thought Scops were pretty popular in Aus as I use to see heaps in Bunnings.

  5. It does have a beautiful flower that pops on each of the tall branches each summer, though it's hard to see cause they're well over 2m's tall.

I've bought a few different cuts from here, I'm looking forward to maybe trying to cross it with some bridgesii's I have seeing as they are both from Bolivia. Any suggestions of other trich's I should try?

  6. It's amazing how easily you can overlook something until you start paying attention (a new interest in cacti), kind of like playing spot the yellow car game.

I'll definitely start taking more care of it and fertilizing it more, I'm surprised it grew so well considered how poor the soil is (almost pure builders sand).

  7. Hey,

A few months ago a friend gave me some trich seeds. I don't have any experience with cacti and am just beginning my interest in plants but I decided to give them a go and put them in some perlite/topsoil sterilized mix to see what happened. Four months later, I have a bunch of little germinations in a small pot.

I've been spraying them with a mister once or twice a week but some of them are tipped over and the roots seem to be barely on the surface holding the seedlings. My plan is to repot them individually to give them room to grow and to not keep all my eggs in one basket (fungi etc..). But at their current size, it seems quite risky to transplant them.

I bought some Osmocote cacti soil and some pots but I'd like advice how to proceed. What soil will be best, lightening and temperatures. I'm in Perth which is quite chilli at the moment but I have a big green house in the garden that I thought could do the job.

What advice would you share? Is there any websites or books that I should read up on to learn the basics of cacti care ?

  8. Thanks for the suggestions guys, Mimosa Hostillis sounds interesting but being in W.A seems to limit you in the stuff you can get here.

What are some fast growing plants that contain sedative properties (I do night work and falling asleep is difficult) or dmt and would benefit from Perth weather and a wetland type of soil (the neighbours willow trees grow like crazy)? I also have a water creek flowing behind my house towards the river.

  9. Hi,

I've been recently researching ethnobotany and wanted to expand my knowledge by trying to grow some plants of my own. I'm especially fascinated with the psycho-active varieties but there is so much to choose from it's difficult to know where to start. So I decided that I might let my landscape do the deciding for me.

I have a very particular block of land, my backyard is around 1,000m2, originally we were planning to build on the land but it has 3 natural springs underground flowing constantly. This has resulted in the soil being quite peaty/boggy with poor drainage. There's hundreds of Calla Lilies growing there, especially in winter when 1/4 of the backyard is flooded underwater.

What plants (psycho-active or not) would benefit from such a soil?

    Thank you
