  1. Hey guys, I'm constructing a gourmet mushroom grow chamber/incubation area/lab inside 2 x 20ft insulated shipping containers. I've been working on figuring out my ventilation, air intake, etc and decided the best way to go would be to make a HEPA filtered air mixing box that my fan can suck air through. The filter side of the box will be attached to the side of the container and draw in fresh air from outside the grow room. The box also has a "hinged damper" on the bottom of the box, the position of which can be adjusted and locked into place to get the required mix of fresh and recirculated air. The damper can be either: completely open (allowing only fresh, filtered air to be drawn into the grow room from outside) partially closed (which draws in both fresh air from outside and recirculated air from within the grow chamber) or fully closed (damper covers the HEPA filter, blocking off fresh air intake and recirculating the air within the grow chamber only. I got this idea from one of Stamet's books and decided to have a go at building one. I've made it so the filter is removable so it can be cleaned or replaced. Kind of hard to explain the concept in writing so I've attached some pics. Thought you guys might be interested. Completed box with filter inserted Filter removed Inserting filter Filter end view Side view (holes are to lock hinged damper in place, adjusting the air mix ratio) Fan side, damper half open Filter side, damper half open Damper fully closed, blocking fresh air intake and recirculating air in grow room
  2. Found these in one of the dairy paddocks near my house, look like some sort of Gym to me but I'm no expert. Pics attached

Can anyone ID these? Possible Gymnopilus

What's the likelihood of these being active? wondering whether the prints are worth keeping or not
  4. Thanks mate I'll check them out. Starting with grey oysters and possibly shiitake. Would like to have a go at king oyster too.
  5. I was planning on adding a cheap pre-filter to the outside of the container, just something to stop larger debris
  6. One container will be used for fruiting, the other will be incubation with a small separate lab attached

  8. Hey all, the cactus in the middle of the picture below seems to have stopped growing. I've noticed it's changed colour to a much lighter green. All his brothers and sisters around him are growing super fast, but old mate here seems to stay the same height. He also feels a bit softer than my other cacti. Wondering what could be causing this?

Issue with one of my cacti. Help needed please

Uprooted her today and removed as much soil from the root system as possible. Repotted her in new soil, hoping this will make a difference!

Issue with one of my cacti. Help needed please

I believe I did add lime to the soil mix, was a while ago. I thought cacti liked lime or is that a no go? I might pull her out and have a look at the roots, have had mites attack the roots of my loph before so could be something similar. Project for tomorrow

Issue with one of my cacti. Help needed please

I treated with powerfeed, few months later and nothing has changed. My other cacti have grown atleast a foot, this one hasn't grown at all. I don't think it's rootbound as it's in the same sized pot as my other cacti and it's got quite a bit of room. Any other ideas anyone?
  12. That's very Interesting. I remember when DMAA was banned from preworkout supplements. Some of those powders were so intense. Now they just replace the DMAA with bulk caffeine.

    PIHKAL appreciation thread

Weird coincidence, I was listening to interviews with Shulgin while I was hiking today with my dogs. PIHKAL is still one of my favourite books. That man lived an incredible life.
  14. Hey guys, I recently constructed a 12 x 8 ft walk in poly-carb greenhouse to move my ethno collection into. I've got the humidity up around 70 - 80% through the use of a misting system and a separate sprinkler system that soaks the gravel floor. The problem now is the heat. Temps were pushing around 50 degrees until I covered the top and sides that were in direct sunlight in shade cloth. The max temperature now is around 40 degrees on hot days.. is this still too hot for tropical ethnos like caapi, p.viridis, etc? Trying to think of more ways to get the temps down. I can leave the roof vents open but then the humidity level drops to 50% or lower. I've looked into temperature controlled vent openers, but most operate at 25 degrees. Interior temp doesn't drop below that so the vent would constantly be open. Appreciate any advice

What's wrong with my Mimosa Hostilis?

Noticed these light spots on the leaves of my Mimosa. Environment hasn't changed, but growth seems to have slowed slightly.

    Peganum harmala grow log

Awesome thanks man, I was thinking today I should pot them out so they're not competing. There's plenty of seedlings there so I might transplant the healthiest looking ones and leave the rest to do their thing... hopefully I'll get a couple of healthy plants from one of them. Temps are high 20's / low 30's atm, no rain in sight but I've been keeping them moist

What's wrong with my Mimosa Hostilis?

I gave her some powerfeed and sprayed her down with some neem oil. Seems to be coming good now. I do have it in a pot as I'm renting atm and wanna wait til I've got my own place before I put her in the ground. Thanks for all the help!

    Peganum harmala grow log

I sprinkled the seed on the surface so there's quite a few seedlings, some red and some green. I have two separate trays in different spots so I don't think bugs will be an issue. Will grab some pics tomorrow and post them here, I've never had much luck with Rue so fingers crossed they come good

    Peganum harmala grow log

My rue seeds have just sprouted, they appear to be taking on a red-ish colour but haven't grown much in the past week or two.. any advice on what I should do to give them the best chance of success? they're currently outdoors

I thought that might have been the issue. Would something like seasol work OK?

    Humidity problems in my greenhouse

Hey guys, I recently constructed a 12 x 8ft greenhouse with the intention of moving my tropical ethno collection into it. However now that it's ready to be filled, I'm having trouble with humidity levels. It feels really humid in there, but my hygrometer is only reading 10% I've added a couple of buckets of water thinking that evaporation might increase humidity levels, but no luck. I've also added a 5 nozzle misting system that was running for a minute every hour, this didn't seem to help either. I know that plants help increase humidity, but I really don't want to move my plants from my smaller greenhouse into my new one incase they don't survive. I've spent years collecting these plants and don't want to lose them. Maybe my hygrometer is incorrect? I don't have another one I can test Temps around here have been mid 30's, but it's cooled off quite a bit this week. Will be adding some retractable shade cloth to the roof incase the sun gets too intense again. Can anyone offer any advice? Bonus pic of new GH

    Humidity problems in my greenhouse

It was rather hot the day I measured it so my hygrometer may have been playing up, maybe the heat caused issues with the unit. Will try and borrow another hygrometer off a friend and measure it again.

What did you do in your sacred garden today?

Laid some weed mat and shoveled half a metre of crushed tuscan rock into my new 12 x 8ft greenhouse. Installed a kickass misting system. Building some shelves tomorrow then it's ready for fillin'
