  1. After a quick bit of further searching it actually looks as though CSIRO is the ONLY place to get a live culture in Australia. Why the hell is it that every single time there is some organism, food, technology, technique etc etc for doing something sustainable that is easily achieved by the general population it seems to be nigh impossible to get? P**ses me right off. Anyways. On that note. I'm going to post another thread to see how many people are interested in putting in for a group purchase.
  2. It COULD be done but it is still a stupidly expensive culture. It is more a moral stand against buying it more than anything else. If i can get my hands on a culture I plan to expand it and distribute a tonne of it free to the people on here. It seriously grows stupidly fast and easily and can expand so quickly. The other option is getting it shipped from overseas if I can find somewhere that will ship to Australia. Really hoping I'm lucky enough to find someone on here who has it. If not so be it haha

    Looking For Lions Mane

Hey guys Been searching for quite a while for lions mane. Tried ordering some from overseas. First batch was a disappointing dud. So many contaminants in the spawn it wasn't possible to isolate away from (if there was any lions mane even in there) Second batch got destroyed by customs (even though the first was from the same country and had been checked by customs and allowed in. Go figure...) So wondering if any of you lovely peoples could help me out at all. Have a limited amount of stuff to trade currently, more coming though, but would most definitely be willing to pay if necessary as well Cheers everyone

Orange fungus on variegated loph, help!

Suffocate the fungus if you can. Not certain if it will work but they NEED oxygen. If you have a way of just keeping the CO2 levels super super high and keep the air really really dry the fungi should die and the cacti will like the CO2 boost. Bit experimental of an idea though haha Although if nothing else works I can't see the harm in trying that Try ^^^^^ their ideas first though haha

  11. It's pitiful that all laws assume that people are inherently bad/evil/whatever. Wouldn't it be nice if the world was based on the foundation that each person is capable of so much good and that in a given situation it is safe to assume that people won't be assholes? Yeh there are a lot of assholes in the world BUT they are a minority. That is why they stand out. A circle of white on black paper draws the attention far more than actual black paper itself. Minorities stand out in all situations. So rather than make laws according to the minority why not make them according to the majority? Why not assume that people ARE doing the right thing and simply enforce laws when people ACTUALLY break them. Why do we have to keep making more and more laws so that fewer and fewer people are "legally" doing anything right? They gone full retard... You never go full retard...
  12. What if we asked a cop to wait 30minutes while we went to get the licence we are supposed to have on us when they pull us over just cause we don't have it there and then at that moment? Bet that would go down real well...

What I have and What I want

I haven't had issue with the spore thing and i never do more than about 4 transfers for masters So basically each strain I can get about... 2 years from and in those two years constantly looking for new better isolates from spores and taking new masters of any better isolates. Its just a system to keep me busy and constantly searching for better In saying that I think i will do the freezer thing if i ever come across an amazing individual that is well beyond what I could expect. And yeh I know they will still be slightly active at 2 degrees but freezing can kill them sometimes and some tropical species don't even like being as low as 15 degrees. So for those ones you just have to keep it going from generation to generation. I suppose i just haven't had isolates that i value enough so far to justify freezing. Perhaps im just too much of a perfectionist and thats why i try and go for better and better isolates lol

What I have and What I want

Well I actually wont store any cultures longer than a couple months. I cycle through them really quick and keep going back to spores and isolation etc. So for storing for such a short time I tend to just leave them in an airtight container in a really cool place For longer storage I would personally aim to keep them at about 2 degrees. But would still definitely, every six months or so, do a transfer from the master onto new plates to check that its still integral and then from those good plates make up a few more masters. Just to keep it happy and alive Again though I like to keep going back to the spores to keep it fresh and vigorous. Plus traits are generally genetic so the isolates from the offspring are often times better than the parent strain. My methods haha
  18. Hey guys Got some pics, sorry about the quality, of some oyster mushrooms I've been purposefully stressing. All of these fruits come from the exact same strain, so genetics is not playing a part in this The differing factors in the coloration seen is purely due to light intensity and color. Pretty cool differences I think and just goes to show how you can kind of "train" mushrooms like you can with some plants. The white ones are in areas with only ambient light in a room with closed blinds The blueish ones are in areas with a lot of diffuse light generated by a lamp The brown ones are in areas of alot of intense direct lamp light Heat is not a factor as all mushrooms are being exposed to the same fluctuating temperatures They are all under same levels of air flow and humidity also. Substrates are also the same Hope you find it as interesting as I do

Maintanence Free Mushroom Kit - New Idea

U have to apologise for that list I have them in excel and had filtered for the verified and unverified ones and the shuffle didn't work properly evidently. My apologies for that I do understand that they need different conditions (although many species require essentially the same) And each "refill" for the kit is what will contain the different substrates and what not For species that will not thrive on trash the instructions for that individual species will explicitly say so BUT on that not there are not many mushrooms that will not benefit or thrive on different types of waste available within a household. And yes genetics will play a massive factor in regards to what species are guaranteed to work and what are still experimental. Thats where all the research and testing comes into it. It's not a tiny process involved in these kits haha Not sure why but it's essentially only the bottom of that list which shouldn't be there Coral Mushrooms Brick Caps Blewits Should be under the unverified part As for the different species I have successfully fruited Black poplar Blue oyster Pearl Oyster Pink Oyster Reishi Shimeji Almond Agaricus (Blazei) Button Mushroom (and variants) Shitake Golden Oyster Maitake Shaggy Mane King Oyster The reason the others are in the list is because their fruiting parameters are either similiar to other species in this list OR fruiting parameters for those species can be satisfied based on tests of the kit. Sorry again for that little screw up with the list Keep firing questions though. I like them
  20. Hey guys Now I know that a lot of people will be wary about a kit. A lot of the ones on the market do not work all to well and generally do require a lot of monitoring and alot of work. Well I hope to change all of that. I've included some photos of my first run prototype of a kit that I will be launching on kickstarter hopefully in the near near future I've also included the link to the kickstarter preview. You are more than welcome to leave feedback on here or on there and share with whomever you think may appreciate it. Any feedback will be taken and used to improve the idea and I hope that by the end of it I can provide a product that will bring gourmet mushroom growing within the reach of anyone, anywhere, anytime. Cheers Everyone :D Kickstarter Preview Link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1156625516/1468011123?token=5a2acbdd Note: There may not appear to be much weight so far but the flushes just keep on coming AND this prototype run through was not even close to optimum cropping conditions. Based on the run so far a feesible and probable estimate of yield off of each kit refill would be minimum 800g going right up to almost 2kg. Hope you all enjoy it
