    spore prints

so is Adrian the best bet for a clean cube print in Aust?

    spore prints

can anyone recommend an overseas site that I can buy a cubensis print from, without a credit card, and that will ship to australia? (I can't believe mm.org won't ship here)

    ants and acacias

i have some young maidenii in pots- noticed one plant has an ant colony in the bottom of the pot. on closer inspection they were crawling on the plant- they seem to have made a small incision on the top edge of each phyllode about 0.5cm from the base(or this is some natural node), from which they appear to be feeding??? "the private life of plants" featured an ant/acacia symbiosis- fascinating... anyway should i try to prevent this happening to the other plants? don't want them critters sucking out all the mojo

    salvia 10x

Is acetone the best solvent for extracting salvia? In my experience it can react with the actives unless they are really inert like THC. The Siebert literature recommends an ethanol extraction- can anyone compare the efficacy of these two solvents for making 5x. I tried extraction with OTC methylated spirits and wasn't paticullarly impressed with the results- especially compared with Torsten's excellent product, which literally blew my mind- so, Torsten, what solvent do you use and do you use heat in the extraction?

    Mushie's and MAO's

having taken harmaline & psilocybin together several times, i don't think the effects of the mushrooms were enhanced significantly (in terms of MAOI) by the rue, yet harmaline does have an entheogenic character of it's own. I once had a wonderfully warm, rich and humourous visionary experience from a tiny dose (>1g dried p.cubensis) combined with a lot (?) of crude harmala resin.

    Curing tobacco tek

dunno if i can add anything to that erudite reply, but...a simple tek that i gleaned from "Pharmako/Poeia" was to dry the leaves carefully, roll them into a giant cigar, then soak the roll repeatedly in a stew of tobacco juice. i haven't tried this- are there any comments?

    nicotiana seedlings

i'm using seed raising mix combined with perlite- you're right, it is great stuff. i'd have thought plain perlite might be too coarse for some seedlings

    Phalaris

thanks for the tip- i'll just let it soak next time. i think a different solvent might be better, or maybe heating the extract/solvent combination- but then there's the temperature problem again... I'd like to use methylene chloride instead of naptha- some paint stripper has 940g/Litre of it, but i dunno if this means there's something else yukky added to it like an adhesive(it's viscous stuff) or that the stuff is lighter than water(actually it can't be because it sinks to the bottom of the extract, not the top). Also i believe it can be very difficult to separate.

    nicotiana seedlings

100 or so n. rustica seeds scattered on a tray of seeding mix all came up in a few days. in the two weeks since almost two thirds have wilted and died. the survivors have maybe doubled in size, but are still tiny and have only two leaves. the soil has been kept quite damp and the tray has been indoors with indirect natural light. is the die off just natural selection, is it a fungal attack, or are they light-starved? i'm worried because at this rate of attrition all 100 will be gone in another week. I'd appreciate anyone sharing their own experiences- are n.tabacum seeds any more robust?

    Phalaris

I dreamed all this- it never happened. I didn't stress the grass before the first harvest- it got plenty of rain and it took about six weeks to reach a hieght of about 30cm- we'll see if ther'es any difference with the second harvest which was regrowth. Froze and thawed grass several times(didn't dry it beforehand)- estimate about 2kg wet weight. Crockpot on low overnight with a weak HCl soln, then filter- further simmering uncovered to reduce volume. add NH4OH in increments until red litmus turns blue. add 10% naptha(lighter fluid) agitate several times over 24 hours- solvent layer turned pale gold colour- separate in funnel. repeat 3 times at one week intervals. evaporate solvent in sun. result maybe 100mg of brown oily stuff. activity unknown. yet. possible reasons- lighter fluid not a good solvent: i was encouraged by the colour but disappionted by the quantity. inaccurate ph measurements- need indicator rather than litmus paper. tried the same tech with acacia bark but with methanol extraction. no colour in solvent, residue was a minute quantity of yellow oil. more anon...

    Phalaris

I've been trying to do alkaloid extractions for a while -i have no formal science background- but without much success. hoping my latest phalaris effort may be better because for the first time there's actually some colour in the solvent layer, but really i'm fumbling in the dark- too many variables whose possible impacts i don't understand. Actually i've been hoping to make contact with someone in Perth who would be willing to pass on some of these techniques- otherwise I guess I'll have to go back to uni to get an organic chem. degree

    papaver somniferum cultivation

Xatia, ther's a great article on poppy cultivation and morphine extraction (compiled by the DEA) available on the net- try Erowid or the Lycaeum. Also the section on Opium in "Pharmako/Poeia" by Dale Pendell is great- if you don't know this book, check it out at amazon or mind books, it's special...

    Phalaris

grass all looks the same to me- i grew the P. aquatica AQ-I variety from Torsten(email him to ask if he's still got seed, it's not in the catalogue)- grew like a mo' fo' in Aug-Sept-Oct, but some I tried in the colder months just became stunted. Haven't managed to collect any seed, and i think my last harvest may have decimated most of the crop- ther's graet info on growing it in the DMT FAQ at the lycaeum or erowid. Gotta go -more later
