Etiolation - they need more light most likely http://users.rcn.com/jkimball.ma.ultranet/BiologyPages/E/Etiolation.html

I just noticed this one today - my second crested seedling so far this year - a Huancabamba
-
Really sorry to hear that - I feel your pain My first outdoor cactus growing took an ugly turn when the neighborhood cats began walking and sleeping on top of my new seedlings. I had to put wire mesh all around the whole operation - top to bottom - what a mess and it made it very difficult to water them all properly.

Yeah, the rats can be really bad - I guess the fissuratus just don't taste bad enough!
-
Proud Parent - I felt the same way when mine flowered for the first time!

Don't forget zelly !!! http://www.cactusstore.com/category_100/CACTI-SEED-INDEX.htm http://succseed.com/ http://mesagarden.com/wc2014.html -
Tried Q-tips, Camel hair and Sable hair brushes - no seeds produced The flowers just shrivel and die - no pods form If someone sends me pollen in Sept. I will share give you any seeds produced
-
I only have one - approximately fifty year old Ariocarpus Fissuratus. It flowers every year in the fall - if it produces seeds I haven't been able to find any.

It's been nearly two weeks in the humidity dome. Psycho0 x Paradeyes are germinating now - looks like it may take a week or more for all of them to sprout Paradeyes x Psycho0 have not germinated yet - will check daily I will give them at least two more weeks before I change the growing conditions - (some seeds are stubborn)
-
Started mine May 11 So far results are the same but I will keep them under germ conditions for 30 days to see if it will break dormancy. Hopfully the cross is capable of producing fertile seeds - I have seen this issue with other trichs
-
Hopefully after it grows a bit I can offer up some cuttings - if I need assistance with this I'll let you know

I got one Crested (non-PC pach) from a batch of seed...about 18 months old growing outside in Phoenix. I'm not particularly fond of crests but this one looks like it is also growing sprouts so it should be interesting...maybe it will just develop into a large cluster?

I missed most opportunities for pollination but somehow the insects did it for me - so far I have hundreds of seeds from this year - some possible hybrids - should be interesting to grow them out.

My Taqimbalensis is sprouting pups like crazy - ( No BAP just sunshine )
-
The cutting is small but it looks similar to Serra Blue or SS01 ... perhaps your friend sees its true beauty...?
-
My Taquimbalensis threw a pup!

I have seen this trait in other species as well - dangling the stigma outside the flower for a couple of days may encourage out-crossing with other open flowers instead of possible self-fertilization - seems that after a day or two the flowers open fully and look normal - curious to see what happens here!

Datura wrightii - Sacred Datura This plant grows wild throughout the SW United States
-
Mine came in Monday - Thanks!

These plants need full sun after about 3 years old to do their best - most people baby them way too much! My "pure" Terscheckii start to take off vertically at about 3 years - they grow all year long here, just slow down in winter. Hybrids - grow them and find out! Adding nitrogen tends to cause excessive (abnormal) growth and pupping

In Phoenix, my Terscheckii seedlings more than double in size each year for the first several years then put on at least 6 inches per year and sprout arms readily. Terscheckii can reach over 10 meters in height and easily weigh over 15 tons when fully grown. They can easily handle temps down below -7C / 20F If more people continued to plant them ( perhaps for the next guys) the argument over how fast they grow wouldn't be an issue.
-
If you lived in a desert I would say put them outside ASAP! Cooler, humid conditions especially indoors / greenhouse with lower light levels are a major problem. Chemicals are never a permanent solution. Perhaps stick with HID lighting like MH - the plants will appreciate the light and warmth.
-
Cold tolerance is a major plus for many growers - Terscheckii and Taquimbalensis hybrids with other favorites
