  6. EG told me that a professional editor is reviewing the book, and the process is taking much more time than he anticipated. It is very important to EG that the book is of the highest quality so he did not want to rush the project. I am sure he will give us an update soon

  16. Don't read this if you are easily upset by cactus abuse I don't remember exactly how these two Saguaro seedlings became "un-potted" but they have managed to hold on to life in spite of my gross neglect. These seedlings have not been in soil or had any water for over 1 Year! They were in a sort of "suspended growth" state, under 30% shade cloth and have just become grossly dehydrated. Today, I was cleaning up the area and decided to do an experiment to see how long it would take to "bring them back" if I can. I potted these two up and gave some water just to settle the soil. I will provide occasional updates with the results.

  18. This PC has never flowered in 15 years. Then, a few stems fell over and broke off. I left them un-rooted all winter before finally rooting them in the spring. Now they are blooming like crazy! ... even got a few pollinated

    Carnegia Gigantea (Saguaro) grafting

I don't graft my Saguaro seedlings - I just put them in cups for a couple years and then into 1 gal pots. Some local growers have successfully rooted grafts, and even arm cuttings! Their advice is to be patient and not over water them. Also provide enough light for energy during the process.

    Carnegia Gigantea (Saguaro) grafting

Carnegiea is a monotypic genus, an unusual case where the genus and single species Carnegiea gigantea ("Saguaro") are one and the same.

  22. I have a few specimens which may (visually) demonstrate some of the confusion regarding the identities of these cacti in southern Bolivia and northern Argentina. It may be that Bolivian cacti are much more diverse in appearance, and possibly genetics, than was previously thought. These two photos show plants that look similar to zelly's which were sourced from Bolivian seed and provided to me by an old time cactus collector. These were labeled as: T. Werdermannianus Below is a Bolivian "Terscheckii" from Succseed which looks less spiny than the "Werdermannianus" Now a "typical" Terscheckii from northern Argentina, from seed collected at Valle Fértil, San Juan Province, Argentina. Below: Two examples of SS seed grown "Werdermannianus"
