  1. Hello all,

I thought it would be good to have a chilli seed swap thread, where people can put up their chilli seed for trade or sale. Im thinking that many plant heads have or had have some nice varieties of chillies throughout their collections.

    Lets share! B)

I have the following seed available:

    Aji Pineapple

    Pasilla bajio

(soon to come: choc jamaican hab and sport)

    Im looking for:

    Ancho/poblano -gigantea or any var.

    Mulato

    Jalapenos

    New mex etc..

Im offering 20 seed per pack of the above plus free postage for equal trade.

Pm me or better still post up your chilli seed catalogue!

    :)

  2. They will hit anything over AU$1,000 with gst and a tarif if applicable.

If you severly under cost the product, and they do pick it up on the way thru(its over a thou so there is a good chance of it) they can/will charge you up to Australian retail costs. They arnt stupid. If that particular model isnt sold here its a different story. You also have to "prove" that the item is second hand, although this is almost impossible to dispute, they know most of the tricks trust me.

I was carrying a 10kg diff centre in my personal luggage on the way back from japan and they tried to hit me up with tax on that too! Of course it was second hand, it just looked nice ans shiny with no smell of diff oil anywhere! :slap:

With another electronic item I tried the ol "well I took it back over to japan to get it fixed, now its fixed and im bringing it back". They didnt like that either, claiming that i should have filled out a export form to notify them that i was exporting a AU$1,2000 dollar car computer taking it with me out of the country. I told them that was ludacris and there was never any mention to me from airport/customs staff upon leaving the country. Point was he wanted a reference point to prove it wasnt a new item made out to look secondhand(which it was, kinda)

Ive never had a problem with buying stuff from Honkers, most dealers seem more than happy to offload great products at slightly cheaper prices. Remember, HK doesnt have the import taxes(if any) applicable. Thats where your saving your money over there. You just end up paying those taxes at this end.

Saying all this your camera may just slip thru, but i wouldnt count on it.

Hope my ramblings have been of some help.

  3. They access retail prices. Ive had it happen to me but luckily my equipment wasnt on their register.

They will add the tarif applicable, plus 10% gst. Not sure what the tarif for cameras is.

  4. Drink up boys and girls, drink up.

    :puke:

Looks like moonshine will be the only acceptable drug here in SA soon.

I once thought we were like the Australian Mexico. Now im thinkin we are heading down the white path of the southern US states.

I would rather we jump the border back to where cacti are loved and spirituality isnt a crime against all fearing God.

Im really getting sick of this legal mind entrapment.

Its time people stopped blaming society and started accepting responsibility for themselves.

  5. Found this Low Thc hemp in NSW

States that low THC cultivars are genetically unstable and can return to high TCH plants easily.

Your right nabraxas, higher thc yeilds are a given result of over watering and high nutrition i believe. I had another report from the government somewhere here stating that there were significant increases due to weather interaction, ill see if i can find it.

What i find amazing is that trials in SA were canned due to low yeild returns. It also states that they couldnt find a suitable cultivar that will grow in SA. Fuck me!! That one big fucking understatement!!! I happen to know that one of hollands big seed producers was breeding hemp with low water requirements specifically for southern Australi. Using genes from the Bekaa valley to harden the plants.

Using genes from Bulgaria and France wont cut it here in SA, any dumbfuk could work that out. You could sucessfully breed new varitites within quite a short time-frame if they realy wanted to(or contracted companies in the know). They have shown this with the northern australian cultivars, some were high yeilding within 2 or 3 years of breeding.

So if a crop doesnt yeild highest possible ammount the first time 'round you ditch the whole program?? Seems someone wanted those results and doesnt want to work any harder for the good of humankind. Convienient.

Good on NSW i say, bout time you slashed all that cotton!

PS, found a similar report that i was talking about. Here

(sorry if its not quite what i was after but gives some insight into tropical cultivars)

  6. Yeah its the first year flowering. I assume the first flowers are a sign that the plant has reached maturity? Ill keep an eye out anyways, if no seed this year there should be some in the years to come. Hopefully.

  7. Hey hey,

Yup its in SA B) I have a plant up here (northern side) and the pic is from a friends down southside. Plants do very well here tst, they have an amazing capability of re-shooting when injured or burnt, far quicker growth than any other i spp ive grown too. They do need a little more water than most to stay lush - but what doesnt when its this dam hot?!!

Ill see if my pal can gather some dryed flowers from the ground. As for seed, im not sure if any pollen will still be viable in this extreme heat, it may or not survive in this weather. Also not sure if pollinating insects are around the place either. If luck does roll our way ill try my hardest to pry some seed from his hand!:)

  8. Hello all,

Just thought you would like to have a look at some beautiful A.confusa ball flowers that have opened in the last few weeks.

The tree was planted back in 2002 i believe, and doing very well for its southerly location. Its now about 3 or so meters tall.

    Bursting flowers:

  9. Heyall

Im in a bit of a state at the moment :BANGHEAD2: I just walked out the back to see my bed of M&d's and tbm not looking so healthy  In fact they looked fucd.

I had just finished the new bed for them a few days ago, and treated the soil with a hardcore wetting agent. While watering in the wetting agent i of course poured some "over" my cacti as its hard to just concentrate on the soil without getting the cacti wet at all. I thought to myself as i was pouring the stuff all over "shit, i wonder what will happen to the waxes of the cacti with such a strong surfactant?" well, i guess i shouldnt have thought that thought, i may have doomed my whole patch to the graveyard.

Seems the surfactant has stripped or disrupted the waxy layer of the plants, causing massive blistering and burning or the skin. The whole row of M&d is badly effected(20+plants), and some tbms are looking decidedly fuckd. BIG black blotches and the skin is blistering. Looks like the worst attack of black death ive ever seen mixed with badly scalded skin. Im not a happy camper and i assume the cacti are hurtin too!! Even the old stumps have discoloured and look blisterd.

I dont know what to do, Ive never done something like this before. Its a three year old bed and its my main propagation bed for M&d and my tbms. Im in a mess.

I think the only thing i can do is maybe put some shade cloth on them for the next few days( 34C+ here for a few days) to halt the burning, they are event scalding on the shaded side of the plant so im not sure that will help.

Arghhh!!! I think ill just have to wait it out and watch the destruction happen infront of me, and hope for the best. Im not keen on loosing 50+foot of M&D tho :(

I just wanted to let everyone know that its a possible danger/problem if you use strong wetting agents. My friend has had no problem using the same product, yet he doesnt get the full brunt of the hot sun at his location. I even washed off(not that that will do much) the remaining solution as i watered in the first application. That didnt help much either.

Ah well, back to the drawing board..... Hopefully the strong littl'ns will shine thru in the long run, theyy just look so sore and in pain at the moment!!

  10. I think creosote was a type of bitumus hydrocarbon, plus other volotile nasties. Check wiki here

I had a very bad run with creosote as a kid. We had many houses with back or front yards that always needed retaining walls put in (or my dad was obsessed with sleeper retaining walls, either way!) I was the designated "creosoter" painting the crap onto the sleepers. Bloody dozens if not hundereds of them. It used to give me massive headaches, really reactive skin alergies when it got on your skin and your would feel like was burning for days after. Nasty stuff.

This new product doesnt really say much about ant/termite resistance, i remember how well creosote worked, and this prod seems similar just no where near as nasty. I cant find any info on the web of from Diggers. In the end i realized you cant really kill off whiteants without harsh chems, so im just happy to form a protective coat and make their job harder!!

  11. Controls are almost like the PS2, bit better, more ergonomic and wider i think. Nice enough if your used to the ol PS. Pretty much the same layout, twin trigger buttoms on each upper side and left/right tilt sensor for some driving games etc. Response is good, havent had any lag going on with the cordless controller. You can turn off the system remotely, great for lazy ass gamers who dont want to get up to turn on/off their system! :)

I have only used Xbox a few times and found the controller awkward. Doesnt mean much coming from me tho..

  12. After much searching i found a few products:)

Tung oil would ave been my prefered natural protection. Cant find it anywhere as pure tung oil, not mixed with resins, solvents ect. I found a brand called "Organoil" but no one in the area stocked the particular product i needed. It was a blend of tung oil, citrus oils and some other pine oil i think.. I was then put onto a new Diggers product called "Eco In-Ground Timber Protection". Its a replacement for the ol creasote, man that stuff was nasty! and its quite good. Its non-toxic, organic certified and easy to apply. I found it quite good. No nasty skin reactions or stinking like diesel for a day... Yippee!!

  13. Im more than happy with my PS3. Running it on sony bravia lcd and full HD games are fantastic. Flow and feeling are typical playstation, just smoother and more accurate. I think the 360 generates more shades of blacks/grey but dont know much more than that. PS3 frame rate seems fine, havent seen any stressing moments yet.

Dont know if the new time crisis will work on LCD's tho??

Im bias from a nintendoo and sony heritage anyways, so i really didnt give the 360 a look in. More for mod heads im thinking.

Come to the dark side Andy... the dark side.... :)

  14. Hey'all.

Just wondering if anyone out there knows of a wood tratement (or recipe of) to help repel white ants and preserve hardwood sleepers?

    Ie natural oils ect...

Ive just had a load delivered (not easy to get hardwood sleepers these days) and want to treat them if possible. I couldnt bare to make garden bed from CCA treated pine, that stuff is nasty, so i opted for hardwood.

Our backyard hasnt had much of a white ant infestation(next door is riddled) but as we live in a creek-line Im a little concerened that the little buggers may make house in my sleepers. Any thoughts from people with experience in the subject would be greatly appreciated.

  15. The little white bit is called an aril.

Apart from attaching the seed to the pod, it serves also as the seeds mode of transport in a way. The aril is highly fragrant and tasty in some species, in some species its sweet. This sweetness/frangrance attracts ants or birds to the fallen seed, where they collect and transport the seed away to another location away from the mother tree.

  16. Its easy for some, not for others, thats the point of this thread :)

I would not recommend that anyone put a loph out in full sun in intense heat at all, unless it has come from exactly the same conditions in the first place. Thats just asking for all types of trouble like severe sunburn to start with. If i was to move my plants into full intense sun/heat now i would loose the lot. Not too wise in this case, considering most lophs are somehwhat protected from full harsh sun, as they are in nature by the mesquite type bushes.

Im interested in hearing your technique spunwhirlin, perhaps you should start another thread with your various mediums and watering schedules, as this thread is primarily focused on coco coir for those that have had trouble rooting in other mediums.

  17. Cheers YT :)

Yeah thats possible(i havent done it yet) as long as you make some rivlets or tunnels for the granules to go down thru. Maybe use a blunted knitting needle or big skewer to poke long holes thru the soil and water the granules thru. Try not to damage the root too much. I just noticed a bag of coco out the back that contains neem. Its doesnt say granules or wha they use, its called "El Dorado" in a brown bag. The bag has disintergrated so i cant read the ingredients.

Has anyone found a source of neem granules/powder in aus? If so can you please link it to this post

  18. +UPDATE 5/12/07

Upon returning home the other day, i finally got around to potting up my loph collection. Time to check out the ol goldie that was rootin away in the coco. Well, it has far exceeded my expectations :) Yippeeee!!

    gallery_1274_18_58603.jpg

Heres a pic after i had washed off the coco, and yes, Andy was right, i let it stay dry for longer periods toward the end of winter, and due to contamination of my stock from a bunnings scop, i relluctantly bow my head and admit i now have minor root mealy problems :( sob sob.. Very small ammount but they have arrived. Upon checking/repotting the whole collection i would say 80% had minor infestation. Washed and treated the roots with mild neem emulsion. Hope thats enough... Makes sense as they havent put on much growth in the last two years and i couldnt pin it down to anything else..

    Heres a close up

    gallery_1274_18_65002.jpg

Nice, fat and fine healthy roots!! :drool2:

The main point of this post was to demonstrate the potential that coco coir has for quick, healthy root production formation on de-grafted lophs. I will definatly use this method again, and i do recommend it. I would keep the coco moist at all times as there is very minimal fungal or rot problems associated, perhaps adding some neem granules to the coco to co-prevent meally issues.

    Hope that helps everyone :)

Now shes nice and healthy/plump and pumpin out pups.

    gallery_1274_18_64233.jpg

And yep, she has flowered twice in a few weeks :)
