Melbourne Growers Group - New Venue and Next Meeting?
Scarecrow replied to carlturney's topic in News & Notices
well i'm free whenever. warm and dry place with kettle does sound nice, but i'm wondering if anybody would be interested in a field trip to go mushroom hunting? share some knowledge and experience while it's the season? -

i wholeheartedly agree with you on this. speaking from personal experience, western medicine is geared towards dealing with acute conditions, and isn't really sure what it's doing for constitutional issues that it can't just throw antibiotics at (hyperbole).

i'm done with exams on tuesday so i'm down for something soon

Code Geass is my favourite of all time. The Britannian Empire rules the world, but when an exiled prince and master strategist gains the power to command anybody to do his bidding, shit hits the fan as he tries to obliterate oppression. Mind games, strategy, politics, mech battles. Hellsing (Ultimate/OVA version) is awesome if you like literal rivers of blood in your anime. It's about an (immortal?) vampire who's loyal to a vampire hunting organization. An old enemy raises an entire army in an attempt to bring him down. Vampires, blood, nazis, more blood. Berserk is great, but pretty dark. It's about a dude with a sword bigger than himself, who becomes a member of a mercenary band led by a guy who dreams of becoming king. Medieval, war, berserking, politics, monsters. I'm currently watching Fate/Zero, loving it so far. A battle among mages for the holy grail commences, and each participant is able to summon a champion from the past to fight for them. Everybody has their own unique motivations and skills - but who will come out as the victor, claiming the holy grail and its omnipotent ability to grant one wish?

http://www.adambandt.com/budgetrallies The budget is blatant attack on the environment, the poor, the elderly, the disabled, the sick, and the young from the priveliged, rich bastards in parliament. If you haven't been keeping up on this stuff, here's a quick summary: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-05-13/budget-winners-and-losers/5433178 Greens senator Di Natale has voiced the major concerns very well. See here: Please attend a rally near you this weekend! Thousands of people have already said they will attend. This is a chance for our voices to be heard.
-
Yeah, I agree that something more targeted needs to be done. Rallies are great to demonstrate public outcry, and perhaps spread the word, but that's basically all they do. We really need to start hunting for ways to kick out the libs entirely. The 'double dissolution' thing sounded promising until it became clear that holding a new vote would be entirely up to the PM. Petitioning the governer general maybe? I suppose it could work if it's got enough support, but still seems unlikely. Anybody else got any ideas?

This is old news, but I figured it might be worth sharing anyway. http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn20978-drug-hallucinations-look-real-in-the-brain.html A link to the original study is at the bottom of the article. What do you guys think? Not really that surprising, eh?

So jealous bigred. Hope all goes well for you! You're living the dream~ Never heard of it before. It sounds really nice, though. I wonder if there's such a thing that accommodates for entheogen gardeners? ...perhaps we could make such a thing happen one day? -

>All apps run with "root" privileges holy moly, that ain't good. sounds like you'd be better off using an actual computer, and just setting it up for television. hell, use that shit for games while you're at it. maybe Steam OS will pull through for us with reasonable security permissions?

"Food of the Gods" is good, I'm halfway through reading it at the moment. McKenna puts forward some very interesting ideas about the origins of mankind's state of consciousness... but they're just ideas, for now. I take everything he says with a grain of salt, he's a bit out there. Also, "Zen Flesh, Zen Bones" by Paul Reps was lovely. Full of beautiful little zen stories and anecdotes, highly recommmend (having said that you'll be confused as shit if you don't know at least a thing or two about zen) -
Ooh, yes please! I'll PM you my details.
