Acacia that suits my tropical location
oncewhywechange replied to Northerner's topic in Australian Native Plants
Hey, maidenii will be fine , they can take a lot of water if you have fast drainage. yes ,weedy as invasive, they are 1 of the acacia's that don't need treatment[ fire] to germinate , so they tend to pop up everywhere. there's huge forests of them in malaysia. -
Acacia that suits my tropical location
oncewhywechange replied to Northerner's topic in Australian Native Plants
Hey,natives like blunt leaf and maidenii will grow well, confusa is a good non native for your climate. loves the humidity and water but remember it can get weedy ,fast !!. courtii will struggle with humidity but you could try it. -
100%, Mircoclimate is key to growing plants outside there zone. mt buffolo would be the better option for the colder climates and a it's a outstanding tree.

Clap clap, well done. you must be very proud

Commercial scale propagation shade/greenhouse options for native species
oncewhywechange replied to tripsis's topic in Australian Native Plants
As above, But poly tunnels if done badly can cause loads of problems, Not enough air flow, too hot in the day, best way is to find a sheltered spot and put a greenhouse just with a roof. sow seed early spring or autumn. I have a good micro climate amongst my native bushland that mimics natural habits . -
Sorry, I will stick to my garden and watch the stars go by.

2018 - The Year of Acacia courtii (Finito)
oncewhywechange replied to communacacian's topic in Seed & Plant Sales
Hey guys ,In the wild , like most acacias they grow very fast and tend to bend over with top heavy growing branches. after the 2nd growth they slow down and pick themselves up again and the trunk thickens during this process. good luck with borer as most acacias in the wild are shaped by them. -
