  1. Will trade some good chilacoyotl seeds for it. It's a perennial squash, and I can't kill the thing, unless I dig it up, super prolific it's producing more squash near the middle of winter it's blowing my mind. From Mexico, grown in USA. Y'all need a tree, or fence this will grow 30+feet unless trimmed or water halted, but remember after it dries up it will grow back after a good water/rain. Pretty damn drought tolerant. After you boil it, you remove seeds and can bake them for pepitas and you use the meat of the squash for a tastey drink "agua de chilacoyotl" with added brown sugar, others use it for soups/stews just remember to get the seeds out.

    Saving seed!

Hi, I know this might seem like a dumb question but I can't seem to find any useful info online, and don't trust my own intuition. I see many posts on breeding cacti, but many start with the seed ready to plant. ---I want to know about saving seed from fruit. It may be very obvious, but I am new to it, and have recently found a few fruits from the echinopses (or echinopsises) from which I want to reproduce. One is trichocereus Peruviana and the other is a dragonfruit hybrid. + a loph I don't want to ruin my first batch because I don't want to wait another year to cross! -----basically how do I get from a fresh picked cactus fruit with seeds, to a growing plant? (time drying, temp, etc) much appreciated!

    Saving seed!

Check out EGs thread about inter generic breeding. He says the trick is to raise the ph of te flower and it will take its own, or any other plants pollen, even if it is in a different genus, or if it is sterile. Since my geography consisted of little more than limestone I assume that is why my hybrid took so readily.

    Saving seed!

In all honesty, I only have two fruits, which haven't "popped" yet but the bugs got a piece of one, and I was too excited to wait for the other. So I can just plant them straight without any actual drying procedure? I think a bird got my loph fruit! Sorry quick typing, I meant an epiphyllum X echinopsis, a trich Peru in a botanical garden I work at, AND my loph. Soon as I get my setup back up I'll be doing all sorts of crosses though. I want to do a matucana/pachanoi/pelecyphora/williamsii cross one day. Maybe by the time I graduate... Thanks y'all!

Well they're not necessarily "wild" I've potted them, or planted them in the ground, but they are beautiful plants, though I can't tell you what most of them are called. I have just added some recently, which are flowering, though may not have taken well to transplantation from the wild. (the local estuary) It's fathers day weekend, and all, and I'll try to figure out the picture thing as soon as I can get it figured out! plus after my trip, I'll get some cool cacti around the road.

I need a CACTUS!!! (Succulents included!!)

my computer sucks, so I'll do my best posting these, maybe not today, but they are cool! as for cacti, I'm not sure what grows in california, but I have some wild ones from Arizona, one state over. Only opuntias and cylindropuntias. I do have many dozens of types of prickly-pear cacti, which one can eat which taste like green-beans when young pads are chopped, and have delicious fruit on them as well (plus make an amazing fence at my house). As for the pricklypears, my collection ranges from spineless-brutally spiny, including a gentle one covered in "fur", colors ranging from red, purple, blue, and green pads, sizes ranging from three inch pads- nearly two feet tall pads! Plus monstrous and josephs coat, which I would not personally eat myself. Anyways before I get too excited, there are a few succulents which also grow locally which I have; the dudleyas, pickleweeds, and there are others I have yet to discover which I will add. I'll post pics when I can!
