    how to fight weeds

Just consistent picking of weeds before they flower is best bet, if ou were going to go chemical route I would pick all he weeds then drop a pre emergant herbecide down on top of the pots.

will dimethoate insecticide harm my cacti?

Ugh it smells bad, but works very well.
  7. Neonicotinoids are a class of neuro-active insecticides chemically similar to nicotine. from wiki the active constituent in confidor falls in this class of chemicals
  8. I thought insects can break pyrethtum down as well why alot of mixtures have other chemicals so it does more than literally just knock down pests
  9. it's been used in india for yonks!! I still use it on my plants, I just thought it was something worth mentioning as generally there is a reason why a chemical would not be registered here in Aus, obv it might be cost related. I also have not had a problem using Natrasoap, I really like the coverage you get from soapy insecticides.
  10. Just food for thought, I have not found a registered product containing the two main active constituents of neem for vegetables in Australia.

First of all nothing wrong with pinebark imo one of the best organic ingredients to base a mix off. I visit landscaping supply, more specifically fultons to buy bagged prop sand and 7mm scoria. sage Hort in moorabin also stock MVP I think its called calcined clay or something. Its exxo bit spose to be tops, I've got a bag haven't used it yet

Soil mix for in ground Cacti bed

The pachycereus we have at work, only in pots, have a pine bark based mix. Some are huge, although i don't know too much about there natural habitat they seem to grow fine on a heavily organic based mix (in a pot)

Soil mix for in ground Cacti bed

Yep ammending local soil is the best option. For clay soils, depending on whether there slating or slaking will determine the course of action. Whether that's just adding organic matter improving the structure of the soil or adding calcium sulphate to help displace sodium ions within the clay. Lucky I have very sandy soils lol
