Haha no secrets about the organisms I'm working on Sally. You're cluey though, I'd love to hear about interests. Bad news in this case unfortunately. I have both an L. shimeji saprobic mutant and the wildtype mycorrhizal in my library. Looking at my notes I suspect I have innoculated with the saprobic mutant instead of the mycorrhizal, sigh. The nutrient source was so poor, it was behaving like a mycorrhizal and didn't notice. I've read a few mycorrhizal studies that used a liquid media containing root exudates from host trees grown hydroponically. The effect on mycelial branching (a proxy for ECM sheath development) was striking. What would be interesting would be to see how the mycelial behaves in a media with a gradient of root exudate, dangling the carrot so to speak. Perhaps rhizomorph morphology could be induced? I might give it a go. DL - It's been too long between chats. I've been in the trenches with lab work, but I'm on the other side with a few good ideas I'd love to chat about

Well I guess a fruiting body would be conclusive evidence of nutrient utilisation right?

Hey Distracted. As I said I didn't measure so it was a lucky dip which ones I pulled out and packaged up. I don't like disappointed customers though, so anyone who was unhappy with their package please PM me and I'll refund your cash and you can keep the plants. That's about as favorable an outcome as I can imagine.

Could be undermined by high volume troll traffic, i.e. reporting high profiles, dropping misinformation. They don't have the resources to deal with that. A never-ending supply of lols.

Ok guys sending out packages tomorrow. Enjoy

Alright ladies Here is the random sequence generated with atmospheric noise, which is better than pseudo-random generators, but not quite as good as radioactive decay. 3 23 29 16 24 18 26 9 10 21 15 22 5 13 14 28 12 8 1 20 25 30 17 27 7 2 6 11 4 19 Timestamp: 2015-08-13 00:48:59 UTC

Hi all, Looking for some Oak seeds, the fresher the better. Also interested in related Quercus species. Cheers, Mimz

Posted this morning for all who have paid. Enjoy, and thanks for your interest in my plants

Still 10 or so left if anyone is interested?

Great, I will get back to everyone via PM.

Lets get the basics right first. Once can answer the where are we now question, we can move onto the where are we going question.

Does anyone have English Oak (Quercus robur) seeds? eg acorns.

Hey guys, yes specifically I am interested in: Quercus robur -English Oak Quercus ilex -Holm Oak, Holly Oak Quercus suber -Cork Oak You can probably guess what I'm doing from my other posts - truffle culture, hopefully. I'll pm you ferret, would love to grab those ilex. Have plenty to trade . Flora - let me know if you see any in the Summer, the greener the better for my TC. -

They are a deciduous species, so I'm guessing they would seed early late spring/summer? Yeah they are a bugger, so common, but nobody holds onto the seed. Thanks for look Micoz! -
Hi Sally, Great DIY solution, but yes unfortunately this is for a laboratory scale apparatus. I have found a work-around though. Salt water aquariums use what are called 'dosing pumps' to add in various quantities of reagents at programmed times. These pumps are really just el-cheapo plastic peristaltic pumps, and are luckily quite modular so you can change out the tubing. You can pick them up on ebay for $120. Take care, Mimz
-
I need a peristaltic pump for one of my apparatus set-ups. If anyone has one that they would like to sell, please pm me. Ideally the $100-200 range. Alternatively I will explore a cheap build and post the work around. Thanks folks.

Hi fun guys, I want to get a T. melanosporum culture to have a play around with. I can't seem to find anyone selling pure cultures within Australia, so my plan is to buy a small fresh 70g fruit body and isolate it myself. At that size, cost will be $150-200 for the truffle. Is anyone interested in sharing the cost, and I'll bang out the cultures for you? Otherwise, if anyone else has a T. melanosporum culture I would gladly buy and or trade you for it. With love, Mimz

Thank you Berengar, I am aware. It is the Black truffle (Tuber melanosporum) I want to grow here. If it allays any concern, I will be using MMN + ME and MMM. I am happy to provide +1 plate of each media for subculturing. Culture time is 6 weeks.

I'm not in the lab at the moment so I don't have the exact model number, but it's very similar to these ones: http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/lithgow/miscellaneous-goods/siltex-sterilizer-/1082632981 http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/mount-waverley/miscellaneous-goods/siltex-autoclave-sterilizer/1083939802 Looks like a cheap one is going for $250, but normally you would be looking at $800-1000. Don't be put of by the age of these machines, they are work horses.

If you can afford the dosh, get a Siltex. I have used a 30L siltex autoclave for the past two years and wouldn't go back. The autoclave recovers your D.H20 and temperature and pressure probes allow allow you monitor your internal conditions, also programmable. It's not often talked about in these circles, but heating your carbon sources at 121*C or higher for more than 20min in the presence of protein will start to form Maillard compounds which can inhibit growth.
-
Awesome mushfun, we will see how many people are keen and if everyone is happy with the cost, we will split it and I'll get cracking on the isolation and culture.
-
Was making some grain spawn for King Oysters and accidentally left the culture too long. Threw some peat moss over the top, added some water and now these guys are happily fruiting. Wonder how many flushed I'll get.

Found under pine, Thanks! Edit: removed links sorry. Just realised my google+ account privacy setting are terrible :/ Will put them up again.

Thanks Zed, I thought it was but wanted that extra confirmation before I eat him... found in Sydney!
