^^ me too ! Where did you hear this chilli?

Sliced the bottom end off another bridgesii cutting (it was a pup, and I like to keep the bases level *OCD*..but there was also what could have been a small patch of rot).
I haven't got a great deal of cacti growing experience yet though. How long do you guys usually leave a fresh cutting to callous before planting it out?
i wait 2 weeks min. although some peeps hold off planting untill they see roots appear

Sowed all these out today . ;-)

yeh mate i get it from malaga bunnings, most stores stock it near the hydroponic section. My local bunnings has pretty much ZERO in the way of good soils. Even the cacti mix is well over 75% organic matter including largish pieces of bark. Bunnings normally stock their "play ground sand" near the potting mixes as its sold in bag of about the same size. I dont really think its super awesome or anything but far better then brickies sand
Flum can you PM your local bunnings and brand of sand. As said above, mine is shit
I'll post a pic of the bag soon
-
^^^ and is full of clay (especially brickies over plasterers sand). Both imo, are shit.
My local bunnings sells 'propogation sand' .. 5kg bags.
This stuff is great. and prewashed. Its about 2-5 mm and is fairly inexpensive

awesome!!!
maybe EG is right on
looks like the thing I passed for a chimera too, on my selinicereus and it was indeed a confused bud that became a pup
is the cactus flowering right now?
nope
-
I guess this is one of the pups that was supposed to become a flower. Sometimes, cells get fucked up by insectdamage or other noxes and start pupping in weird shapes. Dont think this has anything to do with chimeras though. I see stuff like this every now and then.
Yeh ,the plant was flowering when the log cut was made last summer.
It was cut in line with an old flowering areole. Which may have made this mutation..
This seems consistent with the info in the link shruman posted. (btw cheers shruman!)

Is that pup shaded from light?
its in a greenhouse ,it recieves filtered light all day.
-
Heres the one of the normal pups for comparisan

wheres the pic woof woof?
-
i wouldnt,
IME sedimentary dust will eventually tighten the soil mix.
cacti roots need voids in soil to breathe.
if you wash all the dust out you'll be sweet.
