  1. Hey there, I've found G. purps up in Perth before, but I'm visiting Esperance at the moment and found these guys out the front of a mates place growing in dirt (I think, I didn't get a good look as it was getting dark) You can see the colour better in this one as I had more light Same mushrooms but at night with my crappy phone camera I grabbed one of them for a closer look It looks like a G. Purp to me but I'm not very experienced and understand that gymnopilus species can be quite similar. I also have never heard of them growing in this area, makes me want to go scout out the local paperbark wetlands ;) Cheers for any help guys

    WA Gyms, tis the season

Cheers for the help guys! The spore print was indeed a orange rusty kinda colour but I think I left the cap sitting for too long because there was a patch on the print that looked like it had gotten wet and made a solid orange circle. That shouldn't be much of a problem should it? Nice patch Bush Turkey!

I just edited my post to fix the photos. Sorry about that guys! I haven't noticed any bluing yet but I'm probably just being ignorant. I'm trying my hand at making a sporeprint though so if any one would like to study it they're welcome to

    WA Gyms, tis the season

Hi there! I'm new to the whole mushroom hunting game and I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing haha. However this didn't stop a mate and I from going on our first hunt today near murdoch At first we weren't finding much at all, just little fella's like these (sorry I only had my kinda dodgy phone camera) But we kept searching and enjoying the wetlands and then started finding cooler mushrooms I have no idea what kind of mushrooms these are so I'd love it if someone could enlighten me However I've got a feeling this guy might be a G. Purpuratus, but I'm not entirely sure. Coud anyone help me out with an I.D? Again sorry for the dodgy quality pics, hopefully I'll get some better ones on our next adventure Cheers heaps

    DMT Bust

I remember the full report even mentioned something about the process for extracting DMT, calling it 'laborious' and 'time-consuming'. I didn't get much of a chance to read though

    DMT Bust

I saw the full story on the front page of the Kalgoorlie Miner a few days ago, I went down to get a copy today but there were none there. Anyway here's the online stub: http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/regional/goldfields/a/-/news/12153440/bark-drug-bites/ - A man admitted he tried to produce a hallucinogenic drug from the bark of a tree commonly found in Western Australia. Michael Ray Randell, 21, pleaded guilty in the Kalgoorlie District Court yesterday to the attempted manufacture of dimethyltryptamine (DMT). Officers from the Organised Crime Squad and ChemCentre chemists found bark from an Acacia tree and printed instructions to make the drug inside Randell’s granny flat at the back of a Wilson Street property in August. Acaicas are also known as Wattles and grow across Western Australia. The Wattle Tree is also the national emblem of Australia. Officers also found materials used in the manufacture of the drug in Randell’s flat including glassware, liquids and chemicals. - But seriously though, front page? kinda scary

    Acacia ID

cheers for the replies guys good news about the last tree! I've done plenty of browsing through both the sites you mentioned occidentalis, and i even went for a walk through kings park a few months ago (although it wasn't that much help). I had a fair idea of what I was looking for and what I found on this trip, I just wanted someone with actual experience in the subject to confirm it for me and put my mind to rest lol. I didn't mean to come across as disrespectful, and I apologize if I did. It was so good to get away from the city and go for a stroll in the bush, and I'm glad i found something interesting Thanks for the confirmation

    Acacia ID

Hey there, A mate and I decided to go acacia hunting earlier today to see if we could find some A. acuminata. We were intending of going over to York from Perth, but decided to take a detour through the Wandoo Conservation Reserve as I read somewhere that acuminata grows near wandoo trees. At first it seemed like we made a mistake as all we could find were these: I'm unsure what species they are, but I'm quite positive it wasn't what we were looking for. A bit further down the track however we found this : and then this: which looked a lot more promising to me When we got a lot closer to York however, the road we were on was suddenly lined with these fellas : I know there is several variants of A. acuminata so I was just wondering if anyone could help out with the ID. From my limited knowledge I'm guessing that the last one is acuminata, but I've also got a good feeling about the second two as well, even though they're quite different trees. I've got no idea what the first one is though. Cheers for any help
